Or, maybe you have a better idea?

That or handheld only.
@corevi: Personally, If Nintendo go that route, I hope it's a handheld that can connect to your TV, making it a portable home console.
None of those things. They need to relaunch the WiiU hardware with standard controllers by default, a larger HDD, and a huge focus on making as many games they can available for VC and at a lower price. Perhaps a "Gameroom" like service with Nintendos level of polish.
*edit* forgot to put the console title. Call it "Wii.....didnt fuck up this time"
Nintendo Node
Did you say "nerd"?
Again, what they should have named the Wii U: The Nintendo.
It's short, it's sweet, and it's to the point. Make it backwards compatible with Wii U games/peripherals and offer NES through Wii games and Game Boy through DS games in a subscription or pay-to-play Virtual Console service, and that would be a pretty great draw. The one-stop shop for all things Nintendo. A combo portable/home console would be neat too.
With Nintendo (my favorite game company when they're at their best), there's always this agonizing problem where there's obvious awesome things they could do, and then there's their spontaneity and unexpected charm that takes you off guard. You kind of need both at this point. Get the obvious, modern-day internet account stuff right and a solid subscription service and then do zany, crazy, different things on top of that.
Nintendo Entertainment Collection, with a VC that covers up to the GCN, and backwards compatability with Wii and WiiU.
A menu like the Wii or WiiU, but if friends are online, the boxes, channels, or TV screens, whatever they are suppose to be show what they are playing, when selected they go the stream of that friend's game. A gamepad like the WiiU would be nice, but add support for multiple, not just one. Slick startup music like the GCN. A controller that is colored like the super NES or Famicom, depending on region. Consoles come in multiple colors like the N64 days of PLAY IT LOUD, I miss lime green and see-through consoles...
Maybe The Nintendo Dimension, the Wii3 or The Nintendo 7? I don't know... seems like all console names end up sounding dumb and you just get used to them, anything that doesn't confuse customers would be fine.
Or maybe they call it the Game Snake...yeah they should just do that.
I don't care what they call it, as long as they return to having parity with the other consoles. I love my ps4, but I keep thinking "wouldn't it be cool if I could play games like The Phantom Pain and also play the new Zelda? I can't justify buying a Wii U for two Nintendo games I'm interested in, that only really come out every four years or so anyway. Either that or go third party, I'd buy Ocarina of Time HD as a downloadable.
Actually you know what? Partner with Sega, whack some Ps4 equivalent tech in a new case, call it the Dreamcast 2 or Delta or whatever. Sold.

Home consoles are rapidly dying in Japan to handhelds and mobile devices, and of the 3 consoles the Wii U has the least popularity stateside.
@8bitlaughs: They'd have to back off the dual screen units then because that'd look terrible on a a TV.
Just 'Nintendo' would be ok, just as Mircosoft should have just called the Xbox one just the Xbox.
But knowing them they will call it the U Wii New New tuu.
WiiWe.
It is the logical step up from Wii U.
'Nintendo proudly presents their new WiiWe. Go play with our WiiWe. It will make us very happy if you let your children play with our WiiWe as well. Our WiiWe is for everyone and very cheap because it's not as fierce as the competition, but we know how to handle it so it's still pretty solid'.
