F.E.A.R and Insurgency. Insurgency in particular is maybe the best feeling FPS I have ever played
What's the best feeling FPS?
CS:GO is the exact opposite of what you're looking for in the loud, bassy gun department, but I would still put it up there as having some of the best feeling gunplay. Unlike many other shooters, the guns in CS:GO take an incredible amount of skill to use, which means that whenever you kill someone you know it was the direct result of your performance. I would say this creates a great feeling FPS because you feel more in control of your weapon than in any other game that I've played.
I seriously don't understand how nothing has ever matched F.E.A.R 1 in pure gunplay, even the AI is top notch and deadly.
It's depressing as shit isn't it something is wrong when a 10 year old game can't be out done. I guess the game was way ahead of the time or all devs just got lazy and turn every FPS into a COD4 clone that is what happened after that game came out. It's seriously crippled FPS genre for a long time in my opinion well at least that era is dying out good riddance.
from this thread i get the slightest impression that maybe i should play FEAR
From all the people who said FEAR, I'm getting that we don't want forced aiming down sights in our games. So stop it, video game industry.
CS GO by far. No other game has that satisfying recoil. And the fact that you can learn to control the recoil by learning the spray patterns makes it even more satisfying. If Battlefield had the same type of recoil mechanics I would probably never stop playing BF. Then again I may be biased considering I've played CS in one form or another for like 14 years. And the headshots man, the headshots! BOOM headshot!
Edit: Oh yeah, Insurgency is a great substitute if you want something that has similar recoil effects but without the predictable spray patterns.
Yeah, F.E.A.R. 1 would probably work for you. And between chunky slow-mo gun-firing you can slow-mo jump kick fools. Game's ridiculously fun (and in a horror game no less). The multiplayer was also great at the time.
For me though, the best feeling FPS is probably Left 4 Dead (and the sequel). It's fast and fluid. Running around lining up hunting rifle shots that take out 3 zombies at a time, taking out a hunter in mid-air as it lunges towards you, snapping to a smoker and taking it out as soon as it starts pulling and ally (or yourself), or frantically swapping to pistols to just fuckin dump on zombies. Love it all.
Destiny's also great. The mobility and other skills are the big thing there. Double jumping around, getting headshots with throwing knives that replenish your throwing knives, quickly aiming down the sights and popping a shield asshole's head off with a heavy-lookin space revolver.
Destiny for me was all about the strikes, and basically just replaying them the way you'd replay Left 4 Dead campaigns because the gameplay was so damn fun, so I had a great time overall with the game. If the strikes had some randomization elements to it like Left 4 Dead does, I'd probably still be playing the shit outta it.
