Game Trailers made a list of videogames involving some degree of guilt.

See it?

Do you feel guilty?

What do you think of the list?

Have you got any other guilty gaming pleasures you would like to confess?

Well mine is that i like anime based games.

There are some well done ones, especially dragon ball and naruto.

Eh, I'd say Romancing SaGa. I know the game is maligned in the West and the gameplay mechanics are stupidly rough, but I think I'm starting to like the damn games.

Mercenaries 2 is what to springs to mind first, going by games i play these days.

Also i imagine Bayonetta might become a guilty pleasure too, not like its going to be a bad game. Just theirs so much TnA that people wanderin in the room durin a cutscene might think thats exactly the sole reason i'm playing it...being fair that will be one of the minor reasons to why i'm looking forward to the game =P

The list was okay. I could defend a few of those (DOAX, I kid you not, actually had some really fun and surprisingly deep volleyball for using only 3 buttons)
One I'm willing to admit is The Sims 3, which I too can defend (but no one will understand, as 90% of the people I tell this too give me a confused look) : I play it for the simulation bits. I love seeing how a simulated town of people will act, especially when a few people with some extreme behaviors come into play.

Mine used to be free-to-play MMOs. It's been a while since I've picked up any of those seriously, though.

I don't feel guilty about playing anything. You should feel guilty if you feel guilty for playing something. You know what i mean?

Because of social pressures, as "Aren't you too old for playing disney games?" or "That's sooooooo childish!".

Creating skimpily clothed custom female characters in Soul Calibur is a big guilty pleasure for me.

Then that's my guilty pleasure too.
Not that I've ever run into anyone who've said that, yet. Most people just go "Really? Mind if I watch a little?" and then they went out and bought the games.

World of Warcraft. 3 good years of my life I'll never get back. (It was pretty awesome, though)

The Pokemon games. THEY JUST KEEP SHOVING NEW POKEMON IN MY FACE!

#17 Posted by eroticfishcake (7782 posts) -

I don't actually know since it's a little hard to see myself objectively in terms of guilty pleasures in games. I'm thinking hard but I've got nothing to bring to the table.

#18 Posted by HatKing (5821 posts) -

Sorry I feel no guilt for playing GTA or Poke'Mon games... and although I don't, nobody should feel guilt for playing KH.
My real guilty pleasures in gaming would be firstly the Dynasty Warriors games... which to be honest I haven't touched in a long time.  My other guilty pleasure is pissing off people who take the game way too serious online, things like driving backwards on race tracks and getting in a head on collision with the person in first, or putting remote explosives on friendly vehicles and blowing them up at the worst time.

I'm not guilty of any fun I can have regarding a video game.  I'm sure I'd even enjoy a good dating sim, if I ever played one.

Yeah I got the same reaction from friends (hell, even my ex enjoyed it and he was one of the skeptics before the game was released) and it was one of the few games my parents actually enjoyed watching me play. I didn't quite get why it was on GT's list as I've never heard anyone bash it... Yes, -before- the game came out people were like "Augh Disney + Square? Is this game for 3 year olds? It'll never work!" and then reviewers and everyone else actually played it and were pretty unanimous in their "Damn, this game is actually really good" opinions.

I think my guilty pleasure would have had to have been WoW (don't play any more though, woo). I definitely agree with them putting that as #1, as that is one of those games everyone knows about and those who aren't into it tend to roll their eyes when it's mentioned. I'm also ashamed to admit that I booked a week off work when WotLK came out and told my boss I was going on an actual vacation so I didn't come across as totally insane for taking a week off work just to play Warcraft.

Too Human

Say what you will, they did so many things wrong with this game, but when you get into the groove of just sliding around, bashing dudes, tossing them around in the air, juggling them with guns, unleashing super powers....that game is AWESOME!!!  The core gameplay is so good, everythign else is terrible, needless to say I have absurdly high hopes for the 2nd one.

Wow! Pokemon, Kingdom Hearts, GTA, Animal Crossing; I Should feel really guilty! But I don't.

I suppose I have the same issue. I've also dealed with quite a few 15 year olds saying that KH is for "fags". Then again, they're 15 year olds. Can't expect anything better most of the time. I've also had people tell me it's for kids. All I said was "And I should care, because...?" or "*shrug*".
Me, to be honest, I'm not guilty of playing any game I own. If people want to judge, then oh well. I'm still going to enjoy the hell out of the game.

Sneak King and anything Katamari.  I enjoy the hell out of them.

this happens too with the Kingdom Hearts games, to me at least, as well with many fantasy based games.

Yikes. Pokemon I can understand, but how is Persona a guilty pleasure?

For me, recently, I guess the Wallace and Grommit episodes.
#38 Posted by PenguinDust (12450 posts) -

The first DOAX on the original Xbox.  I put in hundreds of hours on that game just to make sure everyone had some of Lisa's suits.   If you played the game, you know why Lisa's.   The original game had less game play options than the sequel, but the games it did have were more...obsessive.  Timing was everything in the pool or on the volleyball play field.  And, timing was also important in gift giving.  Ah, I know too much about this game.  I doubt Koei Tecmo will make another, though.

#39 Posted by Abomstar (137 posts) -

This game owns and I would gladly play it right now, but probably feel a little guilty about it. Also got a lot of mileage out of Crystal's Pony Tales as a kid, which I'm not proud of, but I doubt that one stands the test of time. Other than that I can't really think of anything else... besides maybe enjoying to play the Staind song in Rock Band 2 way too much.

My favorite song to drum in Rock Band 2 is the Paramore song.

It's a very much Japanese RPG series with angsty characters and dating sim elements. How is it not a guilty pleasure?

Eye of the beholder I guess. Persona is strange, but never would I feel embarrassed enough to call it a guilty pleasure. Look at it this way: People like watching Persona, crap, look at the Endurance Run. Angst ridden characters is something you'll find everywhere. It's good entertainment. As for it's weirdness for being Japanese, it sure got nothing on Katamari.

My guilty pleasure would be Pokemon, but they are great RPG games.

Job interview. You somehow get on the topic of video games. Guy talks about how much he loves that Call of Duty and asks you about what you play.
You say that you've been playing a game called Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4, recently.
He then asks what its about.
You then say you play as a teenage boy moving to a big city, where he gains the power to jump into TVs and use the power of Personas to defeat shadows. One shadow was a stripper. You then delve into the dating sim aspects of the game, and how you can, indeed, sleep with a cougar of a nurse, and say "Is the floor good with you?" to your girlfriend.
Your boss is then weirded out, because you just talked about a guilty pleasure game.
#46 Posted by Sparky_Buzzsaw (6087 posts) -

I have a large collection of JRPG's I'd never play in front of anybody.  The Disgaea series comes to mind immediately, as does Phantom Brave.  I've played all the old Leisure Suit Larry games up to the last two, and I have no guilt about them - anyone who spends time playing or watching them will realize just how flat-out funny they were.

See, when you phrase it like that, of course it's going to sound weird. :P
I would never suggest the game to a group of people exclusively talking about Call of Duty, regardless of context, anything that usually isn't twitch game related in general. I mean, bro gamer alert.

I would state that the game is weird, but it most certainly aware of it's strangeness and revel's in it. If your into that, as you know, it's hilariously awesome.

Don't really have any, if anything I'd be guilty about playing and finishing Final Fantasy X-2 three times...
