Some of them live in hellish post-apocalyptic worlds full of anguish and grief. Others live in modern day Tokyo, or are part of the United Nations armed forces. Which is your favourite and why? Which of them would you most like to be?
It's a toss up between Tatsuya and Yu, but I have to go with Tatsuya for one important reason:

I guess the Nocturne one, since that's what I'm playing right now.
What the hell is it with all the JRPG threads recently? Is this going to be next generation's trend? The return of JRPG's?
His name is Chaz Malibu. He was an American that moved to Inaba for a year and taught the people there about basketball and love. He was also the hero (in one form or another, depending on character limit) in several other games listed above, but I don't see him as an option to vote for.
I DEMAND THIS OVERSIGHT BE CORRECTED!
Aigis. (It totally counts)
SHE DOES. She's also my favorite character across the series, protagonist or not.
Serph can turn into a demon and eat people and the plot twist concerning him is interesting

Too late ;-)
But I will post some pictures of some SMT femmes to make up for this oversight - some main-series SMT ladies, to balance the gender ratio here (thigh-high latex boots ftw):

Where are P3P protagonist and Aigis?
Well, I guess male P3 protagonist is the canon one :)
I've never played any of these games and I never will, but the guy from Strange Journey looks like some kind of astronaut or deep-sea diver, so I voted for him.
Yu Narukami from the Persona 4 anime.
Stupid Minato. He's the Kristen Stewart of Persona.
I don't really like any of them, they're always so weird and hard to relate to compared to the rest of the cast. Either because they're silent or just mysterious. I'll pick Maya Amano since I'm playing Innocent Sin and she has a personality that could be described as normal. She's not too big for life or anything.
I guess the Nocturne one, since that's what I'm playing right now.

I'd be down with that. Sick of Military shooters being the "in" thing.

I wouldn't complain too much either, I just find it odd that what is for now a niche genre is getting a lot of threads for no apparent reason. Except for Fire Emblem, there weren't any big JRPG releases recently, were there?
Either Yu or the protagonist from Nocturne.
@believer258: Ni No Kuni
...oh. Well, fuck. That explains it. A big (for a JRPG) console release that's on consoles that people actually want to use that was given more than a short, limited run (to my knowledge) generates at least a little bit of interest in the genre.
This makes me wish Xenoblade had been released on more than one console and had been given more than a limited run. Unfortunately, Nintendo.
EDIT: By "consoles that people want to use", I meant "consoles that people actually use", not that people don't want to play the Wii at all; there aren't many games being released that people fire up their Wii's for being released. There weren't even many being released over Christmas. Sorry, I just woke up and I'm making terrible and untrue connections.
@believer258: Yeah I think Ni No Kuni did alright for itself. I work at Wal-mart right now and when it came out we got TWO count em' two copies of the game. Which, honestly is what I expected because it seemed like a niche thing. Then, just like a week or two ago we got a 2nd shipment in and we have like at the very least 40-50 copies now. Its insane how many we got on this 2nd run. Most games we'll keep around 10-15 copies on hand at any given time.
Demi-fiend all the way! But that is probably because SMT 3 was my first SMT game. Plus he's a weird amalgamation of demon and man. No computer program necessary. Also Dante was in it.
I don't know who the hell Yu Narakumi is, but I vote for Charlie Tunoku.
P.S. Just kidding. I've seen the anime.
Someone made a power chart of all the characters once - would like to see it.
Charlie Tunolu is missing from that list. I don't know who this Yu Narukami person is
Narukami Yu or Minegishi Kazuya I guess... You know what, I'll go with Kazuya, cause most people probably gonna vote for Charlie. The problem is that the only games I played in the SMT series are: Devil Survivor, P3 and P4. So I think my opinion is not really relevant in this question.
I thought they just name every protagonist Charlie when playing any SMT game - so they are all Charlie.
inb4 someone complains about P4's protagonist not being Charlie Tunoku.
I was expecting some of that, but this is just ridiculous.
Who's this Yu Narukami you speak about and what has he done with Charlie? (I don't know any other protagonists please don't hurt me :<)
Charlie Tunoku duh, people should start leaving P4 out of these types of discussions and polls because it will always win, from brainwashed people like me
Charlie Tunoku or GTFO.
Who the fuck is Yu Narukami?

If this joke was ever funny, that time has long since passed; let's put it to bed.
Opinions are subjective. I still like Charlie the best.
@ll_exile_ll: Relax. Does it actually matter to you whatsoever? Asking this question on Giant Bomb where the P4 ER is one of the most entertaining video series to date will lead to this answer, whether you like it or not. Especially to someone like me who actually did play P4 after watching the ER and still wound up calling him Charlie simply because I was used to it.
