I remember 2007 as an insanely awesome year for gaming, with releases like: Unreal Tournament 3, Crysis, CoD4, Orange Box(Portal mainly), Supcom, Bioshock and Halo 3.
But this year has really surprised me as to just how balls out awesome it's been with: Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2, Infamous, Forza 3, Dragon Age, Borderlands, Arkham Asylum, Resident Evil 5, killzone 2, Dawn of War 2 and Street fighter 4.
S o I ask which is better?
Which year was better for gaming? 2007? 2009?
So far 2009, I believe has/is the better year, with the install base's of all the 3 major consoles having increased, and the pure number of good games. And whats Supcom?

2007 was better IMO.
Except you know: Forza 3, inFAMOUS, Killzone 2, Ratchet & Clank, Modern Warfare 2, ODST, GTA DLCs...so on and so forth." 2007. Hands down. There's no beating BioShock, Mass Effect, The Orange Box, Forza 2 and Virtua Fighter 5. "
Honestly, I can't even name all of the great games there are in 2009. I can pick a handful from each console, I don't think I can do that from 07.

Isn't that from the makers of Total Annilation? I played that game its gold
Ay, I was just speaking from critical acclaim. Obviously everyone is going to have different tastes, so the 09's games might not be as stacked as 07's games." @Karmum: The only game you listed that I own and like is Forza 3, which is definitely better than the second one. Aside from that, the only game I've played this year than can compete with the elite games of '07 is Dragon Age. For the record, I still need to get to Borderlands, Tekken 6 and Resident Evil 5. "
Edit - I also don't even like a few of the games I listed on there.
2007 was my first real gaming year with several huge titles i'll never forget, but for some reason i feel 2009 has been bigger and more.. hardcore?
2009, Half Life was released on the PC way before The Orange Box, so it doesn't count, even though Half Life is my favirote game.... it still doesn't count.
2007, no game for me this year has even been a patch on Bioshock. Modern Warfare 2, whilst for me is a huge improvement over MW1, wasnt as ground breaking, and oh yeah there was Halo 3.
Its hard to tell because it isn't over yet. We tend to single out the great things in our memory and forget all the crap, so rose tinted glasses are helping with understanding 2007. Plus, I think it was almost a bit too heavy on the FPS, and i enjoy a good FPS as much as the next guy, but 2007 was really dominated by them. Also, Orange box only works if you are just counting the games released in that year (No counting half-life 2, even though it holds such a special place in my heart).
There also have been a ton of great games that have come out throughout the year not just in the past few months. Infamous? RE5? Street Fighter IV? All great games. The entire playstation 3 line-up of games is just of a higher quality, we have had some great mid-level price PC games (Trine, Torchlight, Zeno-Clash) and I'm a huge sucker for Dragon Age. Also, L4D2 is looking to greatly improve on the first one (at least in my eyes).
So 2009 it is.
Also, was giant bomb around in 2007? No, so 2009 has been a better year because of that alone!
Overall, 2009.
The best part is there's still some high profile games coming out in the beginning of next year. I have NO MONEY TO BUY IT ALL! :(
For me, 2009 is and always will be 'the sequel to 2007' cos that's what it is. Let me elaborate: I will write great 2007 games, then write their 2009 kids next to them
2007 2009
Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare 2
Halo 3 Halo 3 ODST
Uncharted Uncharted 2
Assassins Creed Assassins Creed 2
I can't remember any more of 'em, but I think I made my point. Nevertheless, I think 2009 is by far the better year, aside from the sequels (which are all good) there is also Batman, Borderlands, Left 4 Dead 2, Dragon Age Origins, inFamous, Resident Evil 5, Killzone 2 and a lot more than I care to write. From where we're standing now, 2009 looks to trump '07, but I'll wait 'till next year and then see who the victor is.
