Why do people hack leaderboards in games?

So there I was meandering around the leader-boards today in Modern Warfare 2 on my XBOX and i was comparing my pathetic skills to that of my friends. Kills, Score, Accuracy, yep i pretty much suck.
 
I then decided to take a quick gander at the Global leader-boards to see how other people stand.
 
Oh wow! Look at that. 
 
Some guy is at first place for Score! 2147483647 is his score! Congrats to him. Oh Wait, he's been playing for 23612 days, 09 hours & 04 minutes eh? Wow! Impressive. That's about 69-70 years or so. I don't know about you guys but i have only been playing for about 2 months. This guy must have got an early copy of MW2 just before WW2.   
 
So why do people hack leader-boards? What kind of feeling do they get that they cheated the system? Do they feel they have actually accomplished something or get a sense of satisfaction? What other games do people hack leader-boards for? 
 
I just don't see the point.

I'm not sure about that myself, I genuinely see them as assholes doing that but on their end they might consider it as fun; sometimes even mundanely fun. It pisses me off because I want to know where the real legit players stand in the leaderboards; rather than see glitchers get up there.
 
And speaking of which, how the hell do they even get up there in the first place?

then god created modern warfare 2, and saw it was good.

I looked at the kills leader board on the PS3 and it says that the top man/woman has a 1669 kill streak. I guess the nuke is not a problem for this guy

I truly hate the claim 'I'm doing it to annoy you'. Or people who say that because it annoys you, they are going to do it more. It mainly happens on MW2 but that probably has something to do with the average age of someone on MW2 multiplayer being a 12 year old who likes the M16 noobtube, has the weed emblem because it is 'well cool' and think it is acceptable to sing Avenged Sevenfold down their mic to me. These people are the kind that find it funny to hack a leaderboard. 
 
What I really cannot understand is why Infinity Ward cannot simply remove them from the leaderboard. Sure they lock their accounts but why not take their name off as well.

Probably the same reason people rape.

To be honest, I find people who hack leaderboards of popular games much less irritating and confusing than people who play to appear and value their ranking on leaderboards.

Because there hardcore motherfuckers 

They think it makes them cool and awesome. I'm personally not that bothered about it. It's usually pretty obvious who's hacked it and who hasn't, so you should be able to find where the real number one is.

Same reason some jerks hack in games in general: because they enjoy it.

they want their e-penis so big to compare to other people.  i don't think the developers care about it as they haven't cleared the leaderboards.

Because they suck at the game, how is that not obvious? :P 
And it apparantly annoys everyone who cares about the leadboards and not the game itself. 

The same reason they hack in achievements to boost their gamerscores: because they're incredibly pathetic human beings.

My pro-tip to avoid getting bothered by any of this is to not give a flying fuck about leaderboards.

Some people just want to be seen. I think the irony in it though is that those who do hack the leaderboards in this kind of way end up invalidating the very stats they are editing.

Cause they have small toe nails!

Leader boards are kinda useless to me since I'm usually stuck right in the middle with thousands of people above me and thousands below me. I wish they would let me sort it by just my city or state. That kind of ranking would be much more relevant to me.
