Why do people say Activision milk Call of Duty but not EA?
Because most people act like irrational children, and treat people trying to make a profit like they are literally evil. It's pathetic and sad. Basically 90% of publishesr would change situations with Activision in a heartbeat even if it meant internet trolls photoshoped them and the devil.
Nobody's milking anything. These are three great FPS franchises that continue to sell well, thus they get new instalments.
I didn't know critisizing EA was considered trolling." /trollthread "

What are the 3 games? BC2 was 1 full game. Heroes is a free PC Browser casual game. 1943 was a PSN/XBL release that was $15 (as much as the last MW2 map pack)" Well EA have released three Battlefield games within the space of a year, and if Medal of Honour is a success, they'll no doubt churn out a bunch of them. It's not really milking to try different things with a franchise you know people like.
Not saying newer EA wouldn't or won't start to do the same stuff but I don't think those BF games are a good example.
EA get about equal criticism for their sports titles (unfairly so IMO). Bottom line though is both are companies who will milk anything for a dollar.
How quickly people forget. EA was lambasted constantly for its irresponsible publishing cycle in the early through mid 2000's. EA was the devil and they caught constant heat from the fan base for milking franchises and pumping out recycled products. But, then there were some changes made and they started easing up on their shoddy, half-finished games. They pushed to have a better relationship with the community and worked hard to clean up their reputation. Now, EA still pumps out Sims games (but you knew they would) and like all game publishers, they regularly release sequels. But, they are not nearly as bad today as they were 5-10 years ago. And, their EA Partners Program has done a lot to clean up their image as a place were quality game studios can go and just create something great. Maybe Activision is seeking to right their reputation ship, too . Perhaps, this venture with Bungie is a way of making that happen. However, it will take a few years of honest work for them to get back into the good graces of many gamers. This doesn't mean that they won't continue to make lots of money, though. In fact, the changes EA made may have weakened their company financially. Risk doesn't always mean rewards. EA's decision to create new IP's like Dead Space and Mirror's Edge didn't turn out so well despite positive reviews. However, another sku of Guitar Hero makes more money for Activision with little expense in development.
The reason EA gets a pass is because they seem to be trying to be a better company than they were in the past. The reason Activision gets so much heat is because their corporate heads keep saying bad things and giving the general impression that they believe all gamers are morons. Maybe they are right. People still buy their games.
The milking part is when they hand over a franchise to a different production studio and let THEM do a gamer under the same name (like treyarch). Modern Warfare 2 wasnt milking it imho.
Does Madden count? The last 3 games were practically the same to me, except for the roster. Does "Milking" mean putting out a game in a franchise because they know people will buy them? If it is. Then they're milking the crap out of Madden. I guess this applies to any publisher who regularly publishes yearly sports game. Ironically, EA holds the license for most official sports.
" A CoD game comes out every single year. "Awesome, I was going to say the exact same thing.
Nobody ever said EA does not milk. They certainly do, just like Activivsion. Why Activision gets all the "blame" is cause of the way they handle their business.
/Hate on Activision for being suckaz for money
What I find worse is how quickly people attack Halo for being "milked" when it's only had five games in the past decade. One of which was an expansion and another an RTS spin-off.
We're almost at the point where Acitivision will be releasing more Call of Duty games in a single year, than there ever have been Halo ones. If that's not milking, what is?
EA where bad, back at the begining of the decade but they really turned their company around. While you may scoff at the amount of Medal of Honour games, the new one coming out will have been the first one in a very long time.. Activisions current plans are to get 2-3 Call of Duty franchises going at once, with the minimum of 2 releases per year. Even as a CoD fan, how could you think that's a good idea?
So because EA did it makes it alright for Activision to do it? People absolutely did accuse EA of milking the Medal of Honor franchise, and rightly so - the quality of those games deteriorated and stagnated over the years, so much so that they had to stop making them. Maybe people see Activision going down the same bad path as EA did, stagnating their franchise to the point where it's just not as fresh a game as it used to be. I certainly see them doing that. I loved the holy hell out of the first Modern Warfare, but have completely lost interest in any future games they create because of what I see as a bunch of concessions made to facilitate the casual or lowest-common-denominator customer with their latest title - concessions that maybe could have been avoided if they had more development time, and if profit wasn't their only priority.
Selling maps for $15 on the PC? LOL what a joke.
From a PC perspective EA has not been milking anything at all. The last major Battlefield games were Battlefield 2142 and Battlefield 2. When was the last Medal of Honor game? Medal of Honor Airbourne in 2007. Not to mention new IPs such as Mirrors Edge which was awesome.
