I have been wondering this recently. Why don't companies who make gaming consoles make it so the consoles have a multi-disc changer so you can have like 5 discs in there at once, and it you want to switch back and forth between games, you just have to press a button? I'm looking for a factual reason or reasons for this, not just your opinion. It's fine if you want to give me your opinion, but please state that it is your opinion if you do. Thanks.
Why don't companies make consoles that have multi-disc changers?
In my opinion, it is because there is no need for one as such. First of all, if you make a console with multi-disc changer it would make the console bigger which makes it look uncool. Second, with multi-disc changer it means that you would need multiple trays to house the discs which in turn increase the production cost. Besides, putting more parts into the console also complicates things and it is more likely that something would go wrong eventually. And lastly, the current consoles feature the hard drive so that you can download and store games on the device which also eliminate the need for multiple-disc changer.
well in my opinion, which is also pretty much fact in this case it would take a lot of space in the console making it way to big and bulky for no good reason, and it is going to cost a shit ton, making the console extremely expensive hence no one will buy it. so basically wasting a lot of money on people being lazy. the more logical reason is to have a massive harddisk and giving you the ability to install the game to the HDD, but then you would have to have serial number and always on RDM and they is not exactly something people like. Or for a game that is multi-disc they could let you install the hole game and just have a play disc. that basically works as a authentication for that game, you know like pc games used to do (and might still do)
Because the console is still inevitably going to freeze forcing you to get up and mess with the console anyway. So might as well get used to it by getting up and changing DVD's frequently
Because, at this point, the all digital future we're heading to will make the entire thing redundant.
@Inquisitor_Sif: Well, I agree with the cost issue. I think that may be the reason why. As for size, couldn't they use one of those smaller multidisc changers that are seen in cars like this one http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_10554_Sony-XA-250.html
As for storing games on your harddrive, that would be better, I agree, but the problem there lies with the fact that you can't actually rip/install games onto your harddrive, and then play them without the disc which defeats the whole purpose of installing the game in first place (other than to decrease load times).
Anyways, maybe 5 discs is a little too much, but I think a console should at least let you have 2 or 3 discs in there at once. I don't think that will happen though.
Oh, and you totally can play games from your hard drive without a disc. That is how it works when you download games from the online shop.

because it would tack on quite alot of expense to the system.
This + weight and noise.
@Anwar: Wow.. 428: In the Blocked City, Shibuya is a "Game"
Because when the consoles were made there weren't any games that would use multiple discs on their console.
Plus I doubt that any of the companies expected there to be more than a few games that would use several discs.
@IBurningStar: About the sexism thing. That goes EQUALLY both ways, right? Also, is it okay if I call women bitches and cunts on here if they ARE actually bitches and cunts? (Not all women are bitches and cunts. Just the ones who ARE). What if I make a generally true statement that can be interpreted as sexist, but is actually generally true. By the way, generally true means applies to a general group of people, but not ALL of the people in said group. Also can I call someone a faggot as long as I'm not calling him a faggot because he's gay? Lastly, if I say "that's gay," and I get banned for that, it's actually the mod who is the homophobe because I never said that gay was bad when I said that. That's what the mod implied because deep down, s/he thinks gay is bad. Oh, and what's the chance of me being banned by some butthurt mod because I said something that offended him/her, but didn't offend most other people? (Not saying all mods are butthurt, but some are, and you know the ones I'm talking about. If you got offended by that statement about butthurt mods, you probably are one).
One last thing, I'm not politically correct, and I hate politically correct people who try to censor everything you say. This doesn't mean that I'm racist (far from it) sexist, or homophobic. I just tell the truth, and sadly, most people don't want to hear the truth.

You shouldn't use abusive language towards another member on the site. In fact, everything you just said is a good example of what not to do.

WHY CAN'T I COOK EGGS IN MY WIIPersonally I wish more consoles had lathes built in. What does Nintendo, Sony, and MS expect me to do when I find a nice burl in the woods and I want to turn a new chair leg or whatever? I mean WTF?
More importantly, how are you playing console games while tromping through the woods?
