Maybe you all have heard of this already.  I just found out about this through TED. The Technology, Entertainment, Design conference, is a sponsored, rapid fire presentation of the cutting edge of human thought, including everything from the guy that debuted the touchscreen application people now have on their I-phones that lets you scale in and out, to biomedical advances, socio-economic theory, and a bunch of other fields all presented in an accessible way that a non-specialist like me can understand.

While looking through the list of the videos I hadn't seen yet, I cam across this:

F'ing neat, non?  I wonder if the guys who made the Wii remote are kicking themselves, wondering why they didn't think of these applications.  As the presenter Johnny Lee says, people are already using this free software + the Wii + some other, easily accessible equipment, to make things that usually cost a lot more.

Here's Johnny Chung Lee's projects page:

I still love the 3D/headtracking, can't wait for some games with support for that kind of stuff.

I had already seen his video of the 3d targets, but not the other one. This guy is really cool, he seems genuinely interested in sharing anything he can create.

Also, what is this EA game that will use the 3d head tracking? I have not heard of it.

This guy is amazing.

He needs to make hardware for someone. He seemed so nervous in this until the first applause, and then it just flowed.

Given the recent cuts at EA, Zitosilva, who knows?

He seems good at the software end of things, and he's turned enough heads to get the TED's attention, so hopefully he's got stuff lined up.

What really impresses me is the low cost of all of this.  This guy is a prime example of the kind of programmer we need more of, someone who's willing to do the work to help bridge the gap between the technically proficient and the rest of us.

The wii mote also makes an excellent wireless controller for PC and is a perfect remote control for winamp.

Heh i wonder why he did not show his stadium demo.

They tend to have a limited time to show stuff, although I have no idea how it's determined.  If you're still watching this board, Endogene, you know where the link is to the stadium demo?  Maybe it's on his youtube account, I dunno...

As a school teacher, I have to say that that is amazing! I may just use that IR pin in my class... once I get one of my one. Darn you economic downturn! Thanks for the heads up and link!

The 3D thing is pretty cool too. I saw that back when someone first figured that out.

I once watched a video of someone playing Half-Life 2 with a Wii Remote. I thought that was pretty cool. Of course, that was some time ago. It's good to know that crazy people are still being crazy.
