Ryan was right, the eShop is going to be up for release day since the System Update is now available to download. Which should also mean the online functions for games are ready too (and now they can properly check it out and hopefully Giantbomb's reviews will go up in the next few days while they test the online side out).
WiiU System Update is now live

3DS firmware and Wii U firmware aren't the same thing. The experiences of one do not correlate to another.
Who the fucked doubted it because of an article from 2011? o.O@RazielCuts said:

I was using it to illustrate a point that the 3DS didn't launch with the eShop so why would it be a certainty that the Wii U would? We use past events to guesstimate the future, that is how life works. We all know Nintendo's grasp of anything concerning online endeavours hasn't been the greatest so in answer to @Hailinel 's original question, yes for these reasons there was doubt that Nintendo were going to launch with the WiiU eShop.
I'm more of a "they learned from past mistakes" kind of guy. So no, "we" don't use anything@ZeForgotten said:

Also, I'm fine being an ass. At least I was correct :P
@ZeForgotten: Well I was going for 'assumption is the mother of all fuck ups' -
But we can go for your way too :P
On topic, what games are going to be available for download day 1? Is Trine 2 a retail release or a download?

Some of the other features did get delayed, so it's not entirely crazy to think the Shop wouldn't be ready day 1.
There were so many features that were supposed to be in the day one update that it wouldn't surprise me if part of the reason for the delay was to separate the features out a bit so that they wouldn't all be coming in one giant-ass patch.

The eShop includes a separate section for indie games. Current available titles include:

@MX: I thought they mention the possibility of gamecube games. Remember reading somewhere they were cause of the lack of backwards compatibility of the WiiU with Gamecube games. It also makes sense now since they are releasing new release games on their shop. If it ain't true and I dreamt it all up, ah man can sure dream can't he...
