Will Jeff be with Giant Bomb by Saint Patrick's day Next year?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
My brother and I had a heated argument about this tonight.
I have been a Whiskey Media subscriber since it came available and have followed Jeff since the Gamespot days. I could be called a "fan" of Jeff and his Ideas for video game publication. I think that the current change is a good thing, and Jeff wouldn't have accepted it if it wasn't a good thing for gaming publication
My brother is a business major, and has looked at the acquisition of Whiskey Media properties from a business perspective. He thinks that more money than ideals took place and Jeff will find himself in the same boat he did 5 years ago.
We each bet $100 USD on our opinions
Will Jeff stay with Giant Bomb, or will he become disillusioned again?
Why the fuck would he leave? It is his site. As far as I know he is the man in charge. If he doesn't like something about the site then he can change it to whatever he wants. What he seems to want is what he has now. He can do his job and do it his way. No bullshit. In fact, I think part of the agreement with CBS or whoever was that they would be left alone to do their own thing.
I say he will still be here. Sadly, Brad won't, because he is leaving.

@IBurningStar: Really? when did he say that?
You must be new around here. That's a common joke.
As for the poll, I think yes, he will. The year after that, who knows. I will not be shocked if all of the staff is absorbed into GameSpot in 2 years time. Unless they got something preventing that in their deal, I do not trust CBS to keep them separate in the long term.
Of course he is going to stay, why the fuck would you think he would leave again?

I wonder what will happen when he actually leaves.. it will be the boy who cried ''Brad is leaving''.
I think there's a fundamental misunderstanding here. I was pretty sure that the reason Jeff was ok with coming back is because he wasn't going to have to deal with people who didn't understand games journalism. Don't you think if they were going to roll GB and GS together they would have done that from the outset? The reason GB is such a big get for them is that it is a different audience than who goes to GS. It would make no sense from a business perspective to isolate that audience.@phatcat said:

The staff haven't even fully packed into the building yet.
This is just mindless speculation fueled by fear of change with no basis-whatsoever.
Well, that's just rampant speculation. I mean, I could've said the same thing about Whiskey when it started.@President_Barackbar: Who's to say the people in charge now will be the same people making that decision in 2 years?

Correct. I am not claiming this is going to happen. I simply said I wouldn't be shocked if it did. Reread my original post.
Also, none of the Whiskey sites covered the same industry.
I've just assumed that at some point within the next few years Jeff will get a promotion and be put in charge of Gamespot.
He'll be around. Wouldn't be surprised if, in a year or two, he's taken some sort of management role bridging GB and Gamestop.

When he does leave the new joke will be that he's in the bathroom.

And you would have been right.
I think Giant Bomb as we know will more or less be the same this time next year. It's the years after that where things start to get a little hazy.

Brad is leaving? Finally! He's pornstar career is about to begin. Starting with a name change... to Brad Goomaker.
He will be around provided he isn't fired. As Scrumdidlyumptious said, he didn't quit Gamespot. He liked working at Gamespot. He wanted to continue working at Gamespot. He didn't leave - he was fired.
Provided he hasn't been fired, he will be working there, unless management really changes and cracks down and makes life utterly unbearable for him. Which might happen in the long term, but not in the short term as they've signed contracts that lays out who is in charge of what and he and his gang retains some independence. I'm pretty damn certain that he'll be here next year, as will the rest of the guys (except maybe the interns since they won't be needed). Will he be at GB in 5 years time? Will GB even exist in 5 years time? I don't know, and I don't have a functioning crystal ball that can tell me. Hell, you realize that any of them can die at any moment right? Nothing is for certain. CBSi might completely go down the tubes - or maybe it will succeed so well that Jeff and Friends will by a gold-plated Luchadeer mask and get paint-ball guns to shoot at the interns while the interns do all the quick-looks.
Nobody knows for sure what will happen. I'm guessing the Jeff and Friends will be doing what they're doing for a good while yet. Of course one day GB will die or some of the crew will leave - that's inevitable. But for now things actually look better for GB - they were seriously cash-strapped for a while, you know, and now they won't be.
Thus becoming Bathroom Guy, completing the cycle.@NekuSakuraba said:

Heh I think they'd lose a good portion of us if they ever folded into Gamespot. Personally I don't like their site because all the news I'm interested in always seems to be in video form, and their on air personalities suck. The communities are basically the same so there'd be no loss there, but I just prefer GB for news.
I don't care what your bro major'ed in. There is hardly any solid info on the details of the deal so he is pulling it out of his ass. P.S. tell him to put a rush on that burger and fries.
And I am an Economics grad and you don't want to hear the jokes we used to make about people who did business studies :D

Now that they're on the inside they can finally take over Game Spot and turn it into Giant Bomb 2.0. It was their plan all along.
Giant Bomb was Jeff's site, now it's CBS's...
Only time will tell but I'm guessing he'll move on eventually.
I believe at some point the man will try to take control and call shots they don't agree with or integrate GB with Gamespot.
Sadly that seems to be the nature of things esp in business.
Or they surprise us and it could go exactly the opposite way, who knows.
When a larger company takes over they fool you into thinking that your culture isn't going to change for a good 6-12 months and then it does.
(That's just my own bitter and negative experience and outlook though)
