Would you be interested in a Giant Bomb app for your phone?
I'm curious how many people would want a Giant Bomb app for mobile phones? The mobile site is alright but I feel as if a dedicated app that had wiki integration and better handling of posting comments on videos would be something a lot of users wouldn't mind getting. I certainly wouldn't mind supporting the site by buying a $1 app that lets me navigate the site on my iPhone in a really comfortable way. I realize this is something they'd probably have to outsource unless Dave knows how to program for iOS - but it's a nice dream.
EDIT: So I've been made aware that there used to be an app but they took it down. So I guess the question is would you be interested in them revisiting that idea considering there are some things the mobile site doesn't do very well?

I assume as long as they're charging a monthly fee to use their mobile site they would avoid making an app with a one time only fee.
I'm fine with the mobile site, but I wish you could edit your posts. That's easily the thing I wish for the most.

That's what I'm thinking. The mobile site is actually making me consider a premium membership more than any other factor. So, just making an app I could buy for a dollar would take away a lot of the draw for me. I know, I know, I should just own up and support my favorite site already!
They could just make it so that the app requires a login and only premium members can use it.
Honestly though it's about time to make the mobile site free for everyone anyway - it's really a little backwards in this day and age to charge for a service thats an industry standard for almost all sites.

I think that with the leap in screen resolution on phones and the introduction of tablets the idea of a separate mobile shell is rapidly becoming outdated?
I have actually made it this far in life with a pretty basic phone, owning no Apple products, and I've never used an app, I shall continue in this vein as long as possible. I don't think I'd be interested anyway, GB is something I like to experience from the comfort of my home where I can just chill out and watch some videos. I never have enough time when I'm out and about to be staring at my phone for too long.
For Android, at least, there is one that is pretty decent. Made by a community member, if I remember right.

I don't know if the crew is okay with it, but the android app is pretty good.
Giant Bomb built an open and free API for a reason - so people could build stuff like that with it. Of course they're OK with it. And they're happy for anyone to build apps for any device using the API. But official apps probably aren't going to happen after the disaster that was the original Giant Bomb app. The whole reason for developing a dedicated mobile site was so they didn't have to go through the nightmarish approval processes again.
I guess since I use a lot of other apps on my phone I'm just used to the flexibility of working in the iOS default setup of buttons and swipes. Also the little things like better inbox control, editing posts, editing the wiki, seeing your achievements, more profile control, sorting comments by latest etc. They're not major things but they'd be a welcome addition. I just dislike clicking links and such on a phone rather than working through an interface.

Yeah, i recently got a new phone. And was kind of surprised that the app didn't exist. I really like the mobile site, so if nothing else, at least give me a home screen shortcut.
can make any web page a home screen icon, go to site in safari, click bookmark button, choose "add to home screen."
No. The mobile site is pretty good, so not much need for one. The mobile site just needs to be better.

I was asking because of the premium videos. I don't feel dirty using this since I am a premium member, but isn't it a bit shady giving access to that stuff for free ?
I liked it. Didn't care if it wasn't updated, it at least had reviews and could read articles on it.
I could do without an app, so long as there is a mobile site that works. Although, wasn't this only limited to subscribers? I know GameSpot has a free mobile site for mobile users and GB is now under the same umbrella. Before the readjusting, and I would assume now, I was unable to use the mobile site, unless I was a subscriber -- so kind of useless for me. Haven't tried since -- someone care to fill me in?

I'd love to be able to edit the wiki over mobile. And update my status. And edit comments. And do a lot of stuff, really. But I don't mind the current mobile site, it's magnificent.
If there was an app for that, I'd buy it. It's possible to do those things on the full site on my phone, but it's not easy so I typucally don't.
Considering the primary reason I visit GiantBomb is for the video content I would have to say no.
1. For bandwidth and connectivity issues
2. For screen size issues
If a GiantBomb App existed which focused primarily on the wiki / database content I think it would be far
more appropriate.

yup but at least your subscription gives them all extra munnies, despite the fact they are part of a multi million dollar organisation I'm sure they need your hard earned cash

Wish the app store on iPhones kept those old entries around.
I think Dave just took it off the store because the app was hard to update. It had a lot of problems at times but it was still cool to have.

This is why I steal cookies from Subway. The franchise owner doesn't need my money because they're part of a multi million dollar organization.
I also pirate Twisted Pixel games. I mean, they're part of Microsoft, a multi-billion dollar company. They don't need to generate revenue when they get bought like that so there's no reason not to steal from them.
