Xbox live coming to Windows 8.

Because GFWL was so successful, now we get Xbox live for windows. All the time, on every machine. Yeah! ...ugh.

I want to know if they are going to try and charge us again, because that went really well last time.

So they are repackaging the same product again under a different name and they think game developers will jump back on the sinking ship? I guess it worked with Windows 7, but still...

I saw a presentation video of Win8 and laughed my ass off.. Sticking to 7 until 9 is out, the same way we stuck to XP til 7 was out, same way we stuck to 98 til XP was out

If this encourages them to improve their service/support of PC gaming, I'm all for it.
 
GFWL was a flaming shitticane of terrible design, but they can't improve if they don't try.

you used 98 over 2000? that was PROBABLY a bad call. I mean, vista was quite a ways worse than 7 or XP, but 2000 was a good step up.

Sounds like a good idea, Window 8 seems to be linking all of MS' departments together which is a good thing i think.

Since when was Windows ever in danger of sinking?

Some people around here are pretty deluded. It's basically just a service that will let you rent movies, buy music, etc. Hopefully it'll give us access to some XBLA games on the PC too, that'd be really fantastic. Sorry if I don't share the pessimism, but I don't see what the big deal about this is, it's no different than Mac's shipping with iTunes. If you don't like it, don't use it.

Games for Windows may not exactly be the best service ever, but pushes like this can only help them improve it and the less of a monopoly Steam has, the better.

Sounds more like a re-branding of GFWL. That worked really well for the EA Store, didn't it?

I was too young to care about CPU usage and general performance back then, but I do remember 98 being a lot more user friendly and responsive. I think.

I second that

As long as it's just them trying to sell movies, music and crap like that, and the service can be disabled, I'm fine with it. I will just disable it and never use it. If however they start making developers use it as a mandatory service, or start trying to force x-box style standards on PC games, well then this video pretty much sums up my feelings on windows 8 and Microsoft.
