So in short, I came across a post on Playfire about ME3 with a link to a ton of FB posts from 30+ morons, mostly women (no offense), commenting on Mass Effect 3's FB page on random posts like: that guy that went and killed all those kids liked this game you fuckers, stop these violent games corrupting our kids or my favorite, this is just some sick promotion for the game. Yeah a year old game being promoted in the WORST way possible. I hate people I really do, deeply, deeply would send the fucking Hounds of Tindalos to devour everyone of those worthless fucks. I hate when games get blamed for stupid peoples actions yet nothing else like the general degradation of women is most likely because of new age morales and most rap music or people being morons is linked to Jackass. No it's only videogames, only videogames make people want to go out and murder 5 yr old kids and their MOM that worked at the school. The world would be better without these people. It's funny that the whole point of ME3 is saving people but they wouldnt know that since they can't do any research on it. I wonder if they went over to Farmville's page and started raging there too. I bet they all watch Fox News as well.

Woaaaah woah man that's a lot of hostility. If you recognise it's nonsense bashing just accept it's meaningless nonsense. Don't need to come here for validation, games have been getting this kinda treatment for a long time it's easy to just roll your eyes and move on. Besides chances are some people may know people affected by the incident and are simply looking for something to blame, they've got my sympathy more than anything else since it shows how difficult it is for them.

Frankly I'm surprised they'd bash ME3 instead of say....Hotline Miami it seems more prime for this sort of targeting.

Just remember. People used to blame movies, before that plays and the radio, before that they blamed books. It's just ignorant people saying ignorant things. Best to just ignore them, time will prove them wrong as it always does.

Its always something.

There's usually plenty of legit reasons for people to lose it in such situations but why take logical conclusions if you can blame a form of media? Fuck.

These kinds of threads always show up after something negative is linked to video games, and they're never any different.

The only persons who see these threads are those who have experienced the medium for their own.

What it comes down to is that people who are either evil or disturbed will always find a trigger. It's entirely possible for a violent video game to spark violence. It's the same for video, music, conversation, and silence. Whatever it is, whoever it is, something will eventually ignite them to action, if they are not uncovered before that point.

But the converted already know this and the suspicious will never see this.

It's for that and that alone that I think this thread should be closed.

A string of Yes Men (myself included) saying, "I concur," does us no good.

If we find out Hotline Miami is on the dude's computer, my hands will be in the air like "Sorry, we fucked up." That game is physically affecting. It is the only case where I can accept a video game possibly being directly responsible for violence.

*Shrugs* While it's hardly unique to hotline miami the thug wore a mask I heard. Though yeah I'm on the side of the fence that thinks Hotline Miami is toeing the psychopath line a bit much.

In what way? Hotline Miami doesn't take any joy in the violence it makes the player take part in. In fact, i'm pretty sure the entire game was a statement about the amount of violence that is in the video game industry.

Upset People just looking for something convenient to blame. Which unfortunately for a lot of people videogames still qualifies as being aberrant.

When the chips are down, weak people pick on what's different. It's a sad and disgusting part of human nature.

Just like "the Matrix"and "Doom" caused Columbine.

i actually just did a report on the effects of violent video games on children

violent games can raise aggression in a child, but video games are not a causal factor in school shootings. there are always some type of mental or psychological problem present in the individual long before they committed an act

i have scholarly sources backing this information, although what i said seems pretty believable even without the sources

When I woke up the morning after my first four-hour Hotline Miami session, I felt physically ill until I decided to listen to the soundtrack on YouTube. Then I was suddenly at my computer, literally trembling with anticipation to play more of the game.

I do not know if it was intentionally designed to be either psychologically addicting, but that game transformed me and one of my friends who played it (though it had...perhaps more intense psychological and less physical effects on him.) I understand the purpose, but it performs said purpose through temptation. That's the primary argument for why HM works and Spec Ops: The Line might not; it makes it extremely desirable to kill dudes, even as much as you reject the idea of killing dudes. If you didn't enjoy it, you'd probably just stop playing and call it a pretentious art piece. It's not that, though, and that's what makes Hotline Miami so effective and, well, maybe it's accidentally incredibly dangerous.

It certainly activated a part of me I didn't know existed.

@roughneck117: So they thought this Ryan was the shooter? That doesn't change anything about what I was pissed about. I'll be the first to admit I'm an idiot I might have went a little nuts with the rant. One other thing is this is the second time this has happened to the ME series the first being the first game about it being a porn game. It just goes to tell you they don't do any research about it and they even brought in Geoff Keighley and he schooled them but they wanted none of it.

people will blame whatever the the person is into. if the person didn't have video games then they would blame movies and tv.

remember when fox news questions mass effect 2 for having gay moment. good times and pretty much told Geoff to be quiet.

@iam3green: I dont remember the gay stuff but I remember the whole sex thing for the first game and they brought Geoff on and he told them what the game was about and that the particular 'sex game' in question was really only a 15 second scene in the game with no actually nudity and that stupid bible thumping cunt was just like whatever you say sweety. Hotline Miami is a study and criticism of video game violence - everything is deliberately made addictive and fast-paced, just to snap back the moment you kill everyone. It can turn someone into a violent person enamored with brutality just as much as Funny Games can, but it requires the receiver to misinterpret it and already have issues to jump from "I enjoyed violence that was deliberately made enjoyable" to "I'm a horrible monster whose only purpose is to kill, therefore I will go and kill".

Media can't make you violent or teach you morality. They can be triggers or make you question yourself, but it's always about the person experiencing it.

@Trainer_Red: I remember watching a documentary or something on it. Their parents blamed both Doom and Mortal Kombat and some music as well, because they are stupid and didn't realize they had crazy kids I mean shit, the one basically had a serial killer eval from a therapist. Of course Mortal Kombat got a lot of flack for going out of the way to be gory so the parents probably seen something on tv about it and said 'hey let's blame that.' Let's not forget it was rumored one of them had made a Doom map that was basically the layout of the school. That's creepy.

Yeah I was joking, but Mass Effect makes ZERO sense. Grand Theft Auto or even Teddy Bear Tea Party makes sense, but Mass Effect? The game where you try your hardest to fix society's problems all while trying to save the human race as well as countless other alien races? No. Even the enemies are for the most part dehumanized. You have aliens, synthetic lifeforms and Cerberus who are human but are also indoctrinated. So stupid.

Those are people on FB who are just trying to make sense of it & using all the wrong ideas. As with EVERY other big name video game release where the game is somewhat violent (ie. Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty, Halo, Mass Effect, ect.), days after the game comes out we would see a rampant amount of riots & other violent behavior all over the place. But we don't since we live on Earth where that doesn't happen, since ME3 came out months ago we would have had the shooting happen then & not now if the game was part of it.

After seeing this happen with the glorious heavy metal music industry with just the same number of idiots blaming it for things it doesn't cause people to do, this just makes me want to find ways of banning all those stupid people from the internet/facebook.
