Clicking in sticks, I fucking hate using the sticks as buttons. I'd happily take crappy QTEs over clicking in the sticks for anything ever again.

I don't mind clicking in the sticks.

I'm OK with clicking sticks but clicking and holding sucks, especially when you also have to move the stick.

what's wrong with clicking in the sticks?

#6 Edited by Fredchuckdave (5339 posts) -

Clicking in sticks is absolute shit relative to pressing a key for melee in FPS's; other than that if used correctly it's fine.

I've gotten used to it, just like watching porn.

How are you gonna run if you can't click in the stick? Stab-in-the-face?

I like the part where you twirl the stick, and then smack it right-and-left over and over again.

Clicking in the stick to crouch is how I like it, man

I really hated that in GTAV it just felt unnatural or rather annoying to me to activate their special power by clicking both sticks...

#13 Posted by ikilledthedj (279 posts) -

Anyone wana click my stick?

anyway clicking the sicks is fine, where else would they put them buttons? if anything they just need to make the feeling of "clicking" in a stick better. some times i click in the sick by accident

#14 Posted by Rsvaret (47 posts) -

It works well in Dark Souls. I really don't mind it.

#15 Posted by StingingVelvet (569 posts) -

I don't like it for sprint, but I'm fine with it in general for stuff like melee or UI elements.

#16 Edited by Krullban (1023 posts) -

Feels fine to me.

#17 Posted by TheHT (10891 posts) -

I used to hate it. Sprinting and melee felt so much more natural on buttons. Eventually I got used to it, but clicking and holding while moving the stick will never not suck ass.

click the stick DON'T CLICK THE STICK

#21 Posted by NegativeCero (2976 posts) -

Now that you mention it, I didn't like it when I first played CoD4 for running and melee. I guess I just got used to it.

#22 Posted by GunstarRed (5031 posts) -

I'd prefer to get rid of waggling the left stick. It has always felt completely unintuitive to do. I'd much rather just mash a button.

L3 and R3 totally justified their entire existence in one QTE in God Of War 3.

#26 Posted by crithon (3081 posts) -

IT SUCKS, Using it to run breaks the controller. Now when I just tap the right stick in another game, i'm doing something different. It's a horrible trend everyone is aping because CoD did it, actually Killzone 1 did it first.

u can just remap it to another button...i mean it's 8th gen consoles...controls can be remapped right ?

I don't think remappable controls has even been the standard for PC games in a long time.

#29 Posted by Sinusoidal (1293 posts) -

The only good use is when it's a QTE of poking your thumbs into somebody's eyes.

Was that God of War? I can't remember...

#30 Posted by Pezen (1562 posts) -

I only hate it if I flinch when reacting to someone in a multiplayer shooter and they kill me because instead of me aiming correctly and shooting the dude, I get shot stabbing the air in front of me. Otherwise, I think some of the function of clicking sticks are perfectly useful.

You can remap controls in pretty much every PC game that comes out and that hasn't changed.

#32 Posted by SharkEthic (1004 posts) -

I generally don't have a problem clicking in the sticks, though in some rare cases it can be problematic (like when it's mapped to pulling up iron sights). There's about 50 things in games I find more annoying than stick clicking, though.

#33 Edited by HH (599 posts) -

yeh it's a pain in GTA 5, I never use Franklin's power because I'm too busy using the sticks to steer at very high speed. it's dumb that you have to disrupt your steering in order to improve your steering, same goes for Michael's to a lesser extent, Trevor's is okay cos I'm usually in cover or in a heap anyway, but come on, just d-pad or shoulder button that shit, make it smooth.

however, i'd much sooner get rid of 'Tap-A really really fast', fuck that noise, i'm laid out flat on my couch, relaxed, having a good time, YOU tap-A really really fast motherfucker, you're disrupting my zen. seriously what is the point?

#34 Posted by Soap (3565 posts) -

The one time it felt good to me was strangling dudes in the godfather... good times.

Otherwise I'm not bothered either way as long as the action required isn't based on any rigid timing.

#35 Edited by Clonedzero (4091 posts) -

Uh, well it depends what it is. If its stuff like crouch or TOGGLE for sprint then yeah its fine. If you gotta click it for like a quicktime event or hold it down while moving the stick to run, then that's awful.

But in general I don't mind clicking the sticks.

Personally i hate rotating the sticks for activities or QTE's FAR more. Or flicking it side to side real fast. Yeah fuck you QTE's way to ruin my controller by forcing me to brutalize the damn sticks you fucks.

#36 Posted by IAmNotBatman (627 posts) -

Took me way too fucking long to figure out what you duders are talking about!

#37 Edited by lightsoda (540 posts) -

Yup. If it's a toggle I can usually get over it. But holding it down for any extended period of time is just uncomfortable.

Why not add two more buttons, like the black and white on the Duke.

#38 Edited by Ezekiel (372 posts) -

It's fine if I don't have to hold the stick in any direction while doing it.

I'm dreading it in Dark Souls II. It lets you jump like that, alternatively. I hate the old jump mechanic too. If only they let us remap the controls.

Fortunately, I haven't had to hold it in any game.

I hate clicking in the sticks when it's some kind of fast reaction thing.

Special hates: Forced stealth in non stealth games, where the fail condition is being kicked back to a checkpoint.

#41 Posted by Veektarius (4601 posts) -

I think this is an area where ergonomic improvements could be made.

#42 Posted by wjb (1638 posts) -

Kicking the pricks?

#43 Posted by ZolRoyce (631 posts) -

Don't clickers those stickers!

I seem to be with the majority on this one, it doesn't bug me unless I need to hold it in while moving, that shit is deplorable.

#44 Posted by Nodima (1105 posts) -

I'd actually really miss clickable sticks. I can't be the only one who will sit there clicking the sticks in and out on their DualShock while waiting for a game to load or navigating Netflix/Youtube.

Dark Souls II has an option to switch it back to the old button. At least the Network Test Version had that option, and I can't imagine the game would eliminate it. Not that it fixes your hate for the old mechanic...

It seems a lot of people are saying this. I can't think of a single example. What game is this? Some low budget movie tie-in? I think you guys are talking out your asses...
