Ugh... that's even worse. The only connection they have to SE is that the developer was founded by ex-Squaresoft employees. BTW, they later went on to found feelplus and develop Lost Odyssey, where they got to work with Hironobu Sakagachi once again. Just a little trivia. :P
Anyway, Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix for me. My absolute favorite game of all time.
The game was published by Enix, who've since merged with Square to become Square Enix. I'm guessing normajean picked it because the PSP remake has SE's logo on the box.

who are you to change the fabric of gaming since the start? they started out in a genre of RPG, and then evolved into JRPG so as to make sub genres. in the end all games are RPGS any time you play a specific role out, Role playing game, so yes they are RPGS.

Square games are not all a like.Vagrant Story is more like a Diablo style action rpg. Parasite Eve is more like a RE game. Front Mission is a turn based tactical game.
I know what your problem is. You hate Japanese story lines which i can understand to a degree.
The main problem with Japanese stories is that its written by Japanese people.
In Japan they rewrite the story in non Japanese games and movies to fit more of a Japanese taste. In the rest of the world we try to faithfully translate the subject matter.
In truth it would have been better if we took more liberty's with the story, I think more ppl would like Japanese games if we did.

You would think that R P G would explain itself as being any game where you Roll Play. Now a days that doesn't fit cause you can Roll Play in just about any game. I say any game where you have a direct hand in making the character is a RPG whether it be Dialog trees, Attribute points, Picking a Class, or choosing skills (aka talent trees)
