Since we're more than halfway done with the year and everyone's already talked about their current GOTY candidates, I want to bring the discussion to the games of yesteryear for the inevitable 2012's 2011 Game of the Year. In truth, it's odd because I've found myself playing more games made 2, 3, even 4 years ago instead of anything from last year. However, the game from last year I keep coming back to is Binding of Isaac. The randomly generated floors and powerups keep the game from feeling stale, and constant updates to the game have added new items and bosses, especially with the Wrath of the Lamb DLC. The art style is also weirdly charming because it's so interesting to look at as Isaac becomes more and more disfigured with each item he gains. So, what are everyone's 2012 2011 GOTY prospects?
2012's 2011 Game of the Year So Far
I bet it's Skyrim for most people. At least those not playing on PS3, because they get the DLC.
For me, it's probably Saints Row the Third.

Sadly I am in that camp. I like Skyrim a whole lot, but I guess I have this thing with Bethesda games where I just sort of stop around halfway through the main quest. Happened in Oblivion and Fallout 3 too.

I have exactly the same problem, even though I loved Skyrim. I'll probably go back to it when I get back home, finish the whole thing then get the DLC, find some good mods as well.

Meh, the main quest isn't really the point anyway. Although Skyrim did have the best main story of any Bethesda game to date.

Radiant Historia, I think?
I've done everything there is to do in that game. Give me another recommendation.

Wait wait wait, does 2012's 2011 GOTY mean a game I played in 2011 that I'm still playing, or a 2011 game that I've played for the first time in 2012 and enjoyed the most?
The Binding of Isaac. It's a game that I was pretty meh about to begin with. It is not only one of my most played games this year, but an all-time favourite.
For me personally as far as more popular titles go I'd got to give my nod to Deus Ex: Human Revolution, I really loved that game.
Batman Arkham City for me. Didn't play it until 5-6 weeks ago.
I didn't really like Arkham Asylum all that much, and was very done with it by the time i finished it. Arkham City i thought was fantastic though, and a really great looking game. Also just incrediblely meticulous job coloring the world with voice acting, recordings, etc. After playing it a ton i was surprised how dismissive they were of it last year in the GOTY discussions.

I played most of my Total War Shogun 2 in January and February 2012, so that is absolutely my front-runner right now. Although I bet that once I properly dive back into Skyrim - have barely touched it after playing 200 hours last year - that'll take the #1 spot.
That's a good one, I didn't get to that till this spring and I played it quite a bit. So good, I like it way more than Napolean!

Both count for the illustrious 2012 2011 GOTY.
Well, Alpha Protocol is definitely my 2012's 2010 GOTY, and honestly I'd have to say Battlefield 3 for 2011. It's still probably the game I continue to get the most enjoyment out of this year that came out last year.
Gotta go with Space Marine, purely because it's one of the few 2011 game I've played this year, well than and NHL 12.
I don't think it counts, but Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. Fuuuuck MGS2 and 3 are so good. If that doesn't count then Dark Souls.

Skyrim for me.
But my 2012's 2010 game of the year is Civ 5.
holy crap, that's been out for two years already? Damn time flies...

Right now, Arkham City. That game really shines on subsequent playthroughs, especially on a good PC.
Uhm, barely played any 2011 games... plenty of 2010 and earlier, but...
It'd have to be Battlefield 3, as I've played that more (and intend to play some more) than Trine 2 and Driver: San Fransisco... which are probably the other 2 2011 games I've played so far this year. I still love Saint's Row, but I've not really touched it since I finished the Trouble with Clones.
Seeing how busy I expect the rest of the year to be, I doubt I'll get around to any other 2011 games.
Gears of War 3 easily. Such an absolutely fantastic game; that was basically what kept me afloat in gaming throughout the entirety of June & July. That and Spelunky, which is also pretty damn good as well.
