If the banning of Oneechanbara from gamespot would work towards a proper portrayel of women in video games and thus ultimately towards the possibility for games to be taken more seriously, I'd be the first to sign.

Kristin is a stupid bitch anyway. From what I've seen, she knows nothing about games and has the intelligence of Levio's fuzzy slippers. Call me an asshole, but I'm embarrassed to even occasionally catch On the Spot.

Wow... ok so, how many other games have already been out that do things like this to a further extent even? Also even more so..this is just how the Japanese market does things...they are crazy and come up with stuff western devs definitely wouldn't think of..its funny more than anything...you would think being in this business she would know this, and she should know this. The main response that I hear the most, from the girls that I know that are into gaming, is that any game that has chicks kicking ass, regardless of the clothing they're put it, appeals way more to them than the typical needing to be saved damsel in distress..that and people that make games that are supposed to appeal to girls, because they are totally wrong, and always think they wouldn't like to shoot some dudes in the face or anything, but instead play a babysitting sim or a game about going to the mall. The outfit in the game too is just expected at this point, especially in Japanese games, because that part of it is the design that is meant to appeal to a male audience, which should be obvious to anyone.

Regardless of the material(I mean its not a straight up porn game or anything..Japan definitely has worse than this) trying to censor anything video game related, is really insulting and hypocritical of her...especially how she says "I hope I see some of you girls sending in your questions", because that means she obviously thinks that every female that would see this game would immediately have the same reaction she would. This is just sad honestly.

The game is not objectifying women. No game does, because the things in those games are not women. Saying a game, whether it be straight up porn or something else, objectifies women is no better than saying GTA is a murder simulator. Games are fantasy, and people can fantasize about whatever they want.

Ok so i've read it and make my comment (Willdyer10) and I'm going to leave it at that. Getting angry at Gamespot just isn't worth it anymore, especially when there are awesome sites like this.

As for your comment Linkyshinks, walls of text don't help :/

Uhhhh, she updated her blog?

EDIT:

Okay I obviously need to clarify my views on this.

The thing that I'm irritated about is the BLATANT objectification of women in this game. The opening scene starts out in a shower, and then has a girl running around in a bikini. I don't know what you guys keep near your shower but my bikini is NOT the first thing I'd grab if the world were being overrun by zombies (they aren't that comfy to run in)
Look, I KNOW TnA sells, and sells lots. There's a reason pron is one of the biggest industries. What I'm cheesed off about is the fact that one of the main characters is in a bikini. There is NO reason for this choice of outfits, that's where I get offended. Laura Croft is sexual yet covered up. The school girl outfit I don't have a huge problem with, it's iconic in japan.
They want to be controversial and are hoping the drama will promote their game more - they subscribe to the mindset of no such thing as bad press.

Interestingly enough, I don't have a huge problem with DoA volleyball. That was blatent and while I don't support it, I can see the humor in it and it wasn't trying to hide behind a game.

I don't want viewers to email in questions that are inflammatory, I'm looking for well thought out, COHERENT questions that I may not think of prior to the show. I'm not going to attack the developer, only hope to open his eyes a bit to why the female demographic (which is 40% of games - we're not that much of a minority anymore) may be offended at this game.

Obviously my initial post was written through a haze of red anger, but I still stand by my beliefs. Sexual harassment is not tolerated in the work place, schools, or society. There's no reason it needs to be tolerated or propagated in video games. THAT'S what I'm getting at.

No offense to the guys, but you're incapable of understanding until you walk in a female gamers shoes. This is the sole reason for Xbox GamerChiX, PMS Clan, CaveGirls, Girlz of Distruction, and other female-oriented gaming clans/organizations/websites etc. Why did Bungie start cracking down on harassment in Halo? A few of the Bungie developers played a couple rounds of halo on my tag and a girlfriend's tag during GDC once. They didn't use the mics and we put headset sound through the tv. When they were finished they turned to my girlfriend and I and asked us, "Is it always like this? We knew it was bad but we didn't realize it was THIS bad."

And Linkyshinks, you need the whole background on why I picked the BatGirl name. I didn't pick it for the comics. This is why I picked the Batgirl name (pulled from a very old blog):
"I like the image of Batgirl. She is a superhero in every sense of the word - and is female. She's strong, independent, cunning, isn't afraid to stand up for herself, and cares about the people around her. She's kind and giving, yet when push comes to shove, she's got no problem kicking butt and taking names. She has no qualms getting in there with the boys and doesn't expect any special treatment and most importantly, she can hold her own. She is a GREAT roll model for girls in every age group. She's not an overtly sexual icon, but she has a sensuality to her that's alluring and fun....The Batgirl character is smart and uses stereotypes to her advantage. I try to do the same and don't let them hold me back. You can either let yourself be a victim and held back, or you can overcome and use your circumstances to your advantage. I see Batgirl as always using her environment and circumstances for her advantage - and I model my life after that."

@ronniepage588 - your comment deserves some correction. I am on the show because I know games and love them as well as the culture and industry. I also have a video background. My "attribute" size has nothing to do with it. If it did, they'd dictate my wardrobe, not me wearing what I want. Everything you see me wear on the show is from my personal wardrobe. Interestingly enough I DID have a job offer from G4 once to host a video game show - but I had to wear a bikini. Funny enough, I turned that job down. If you think the ONLY reason I was hired was for my "attributes", your incorrect and I highly suggest you correct your thinking ASAP.

And as another aside - Ryan heard my tirade in the office and was in my office when I initially decided to pull the game and he supported my decision if I was uncomfortable with the game or felt strongly about not having it on the show. No one in this office would ever be made to do something they feel uncomfortable with.

If she's going to be trivializing men (in the form of the Bungie developer) like that, when most guys act *waaay* better to women on games like that (you've all seen it), I'm going to objectify her. She should hear the things *we* get called in something like Halo. Seriously.

Also, I'd motorboat that.

What if this was "loin-clothed zombie slayers" - would we be having such a conversation then?

Bikini zombie slayers. That's great. You could look at it as objectification of women, or you could view it as direct criticism to what society has become. There's rarely only one side to a coin.

Maybe I'm make a huge generalisation (and I'm sure some people are going to shoot me down here) but I thought girls liked feeling sexy?

I don't disagree that a girl can be respected, have a brain, have their place in the world without having to show off their body but ummm... I just look at the way a huge majority of chicks dress and presume they like the attention they get.

Let's face it - in womens eyes, men just can't win. We're meant to "notice" them but we're meant to "respect" them too. So many women have double standards.

Just like this chick.

EDIT: I hate feminists. They campaign for "equality" between men and women but what they actually want is for men to have no rights at all.

EDIT2: She has weird nipples.

So because males will play this game that means they will go on to sexual harass women in real life? That is a very weak connection she draws there.

This isn't real, it's a videogame. It's fantasy.  I guarantee you she would have no problem if the character was a male in a speedo running around killing zombies.

Also, she also makes herself to be a hypocrite right in her posting:
"The thing that I'm irritated about is the BLATANT objectification of women in this game. "
"Interestingly enough, I don't have a huge problem with DoA volleyball. That was blatent"
Flip-flop much?

i don't agree with her at all, female clans do nothing more than promote the stereotype that females can't compete with males at the same level and that we need to be in a separate group, segregated. Gmr Girl Tourney anyone? Yeah, females get harassed online. Guess what? So does everyone else. There's a lot of immature people online. Deal with it or don't play, or don't use a headset. Heck, if you get that offensive, don't use the internet either.

She has no problem posing for a promotional gig in a bikini, but on TV, oh no, that's just not right!

...Now I just want to punch her in the face even more.

Kristin Riley is a useless host and a total airhead. Her style lacks flair or any notable charisma or likability. She is clearly disinterested in what she's doing and she shows a lack of preparedness which is frankly laughable. What I'm saying is, she's not very good at her job. For her to then have the cheek to turn around and pull this stunt is laughable.

Maybe she thinks she'll look clever, but it really won't. As has been mentioned, it's totally hypocritical. Especially since even at GameSpot she serves only as eye candy (And not terribly effective eye candy either since noone can stand her). It's also completely unprofessional. And I'm not talking about the Giant Bomb kind of unprofessional, I'm talking get your ass fired unprofessional.

Kristin really needs to reconsider whether or not she's A valuable enough at GameSpot to get away this (Hint: If they can fire the Gerstmann, you're worthless Riley) or B smart enough to actually pull it off (Another hint: No way).

This is not how you behave when you've been hired to help front a corporate-funded advert-a-thon, not if you want a paycheck anyway. On The Spot/GameSpot Live is not an open media platform for Kristin to express her political views, it's a promotional tool for publishers and an entertainment service produced by Cnet/GameSpot. It dosn't matter what anyone thinks of the morals of what the show is or of its content, it's simply not a forum to express dissenting viewpoints.

Spot on mate - everyone gets stick online. "You're shit", "You're English", "You're American", "You sound gay", "You sound stupid", "You're an idiot", "You sound 10", "You're a girl".... etc. etc.

That's how online gaming is a majority of the time. Just take your headset off, play with friends or mute/report the offenders. We all have to do it.
