If you buy gutted games from GameStop it's your own fault. I don't see how GameStop haters have so much experience with a store that they hate so much? Are you going in just to get ripped off? Does the feeling of getting ripped off arouse you or something?

This is news to you? =/

They once sold my mom an empty display case for a birthday (or was it Christmas? I don't remember!) present. Unfortunately, I opened the box a few months later, after having finished some of the other games, and it was too late to return it. G'damn bastids. I refuse to give them any of my money. The fuckheads!

EB Games has tried to pull this on me a few times. Every time they've attempted to rip me off I demanded a new copy and an apology.

That's not GameStop's fault. Your mom should've noticed that the case was light and if it wasn't wrapped in it's normal casing, she should've looked inside before giving it to you. Also they have a return policy like any other store, they can't just except games that were purchased months ago. Your entire argument in flawed. You feel anger for a company when it was you and your mother's fault in the first place.

It wasn't light, the pamphlets in the box are pretty heavy for a game. Plus, even if it was too light, she doesn't play video games. They probably knew this in selling it to her. That's like saying it's not the girls fault that she was drugged and raped, because she drank a beer given to her by a stranger.

Not only do they do that, but they accept ridiculous quality used games.  I picked up a copy of Shadowrun because it was only five bucks, and the disc he pulls out literally has a crack in it.  I told him "uhh, no thanks" and he responded "why?  it works fine".   Yeah... ok

Yesterday I bought pes2009 for the ps2 and although it was on the "new" pile, they warned me that the game was used and gave me a 10€ discount. I wanted the used game anyway since it was cheaper so no harm, no foul....

It's not the girls fault she was rapped but it's definitely her fault for being drugged. You don't take beer from strangers just like you don't take candy from strangers. That's like Kindergarten 101 right there.

Ok I have to admit that the used games they sell are of low quality and in the past when it was EB Games, they used to act like the disc wasn't bad at all. They shouldn't except just any old game. I once looked for a DBZ game of the PS1 and they ended up giving the Japan only version. But they gave me my money back and contacted the guy who sold it to them.

I've never been told we can only take used copies, it's preferred though. I'll admit to renting some new games at my store, but like I said, if there's a used one I'll take it. It's a GameStop benefit, so don't be angry at me, just at them.

Maybe none of us have a choice. What if somebody goes to GameStop and gets a game as a gift? Can you blame the person who received the gift? What if you don't live near any other gaming store?

Like they said, Internet. You can get games cheaper and in better shape.

No, im not mad at you at all. Im just saying that those were the rules. You were probably never told because your manager or higher-up never cared about it.

Yea, but still...

Then again, this isn't much of a problem for me, often. Keep in mind that I'm an old school gamer.

Who cares? We're not talking about virgins here, shit. Get a grip.

I've known that they do this for a long time.  This is why I always request that I get a shrinkwrapped copy instead of one that's already open.  If I pay $60 for a game, I damn well better be the first to play that copy.

Thanks to Kotaku for the story

When I worked at Gamestop, any time that we "rented" a game, it was always a used copy, but i wouldn't be suprised if other stores didn't follow the guidelines.
"
Oh boy, i'm glad that i decided all those years ago when i bought my "NEW" copy of Half Life 2 that came with no instruction manual in a non sealed container that i was done with Game Stop and all their shitty practices.  I've been boycotting Game Stop for some large amount of time now, and i suggest you do the same if you despise their policies as much as i do.

I find it funny how there are all these Gamestop horror stories going around in the states. We have EB Games here in Canada (which is owned by gamestop). I've never had any issues with them when I have bought stuff there.

Could be damaged. Hell, when I find out my girl..fr...I can't finish that sentence with a straight face. I, like many of you on the Internet, have no girlfriend :P. You can see where I was going with the analogy, though.

W-W-W-W-W-W-W-W-WAAAAIIIIT a second!

Hahahahaha!

Wha the fuck man? Gampestop shouldn't have sold an empty box in the first place! All of this could've been AVOIDED if they weren't DUMB enough to sell a dislplay case! How can anyone blame the customer for their mistakes? Your logic is completely backwords, dude!

I had them sell me a copy of Oblivion GOTY edition new yet it was actually "used". Well they claimed it was new, but when there's no shrink wrap and they have to get the disc out of the drawer, and you can tell that the instruction manual has been looked through and removed from the case, you know its used.

If I ever buy anything from gamestop, its only New if its a new release as most of the time there they still give it to you shrink wrapped. Or I may pick up something used but that's not often a good deal.

I would never pay full price for a "gutted" or display copy. I would ask for a sealed or walk out, I also always pre-order from gamestop and when I buy games that are older releases I buy em on eBay, Half, Amazon or NewEgg typically. Also they opened my copy of Mirror's Edge when I returned it, how do they expect someone to redo a factory y-seal? seriously you had my CC number and asked for my ID...retarded.

Really wish there were a lot more local game stores rather than that nazi chain store...

Well technically nothing Gamestop sells is new since the discs are always removed from the packaging. This is the reason I don't buy anything that's not shrink-wrapped. I would be surprised if this WASN'T happening.

I'm gotta settle this...

I work at Gamestop, and yes, they totally do this. Don't ever buy "gutted" games. We HAVE to do that, and it's stupid. I don't understand why the company can't just send us fake boxes.

I'll never forget opening my copy of Burnout Paradise, brand new, only for there to be 3 HUGE thumb prints on the manual, and the disk upside down in the case.

They dont gut everything, just the ones that they put on display. Which means if they get 100 copies of Halo 3, only one or two will be gutted.
