Preface

Hey everybody!

This is a quick tutorial on how to create a pseudo-desktop application out of the Whiskey sites. Google Chrome is my main browser at this point and I thought of a way to continue using the Theater Mode without switching to another browser when Googles removes H264 support from Chrome. There is a nice little app calld "Fluid" which allows you to create site specific browsers without the clutter of a complete browser.

Installation

  1. Go to http://fluidapp.com/, download Fluid and move the app to your application folder.
  2. Start Fluid and fill the fields:
    URL:  http://www.giantbomb.com/video/theater/
    Name:  Giant Bomb
    Location: Applications
    Icon: I use http://media.giantbomb.com/media/vine/img/white/layout/logo.png

         Fluid setup
         Fluid setup

  3. Launch the newly created application. Whiskey will prompt you to login. This won't work yet because the app is restricted to only browse giantbomb.com/video/theater.
  4. Open the app's preference window -> Advanced and setup the allowed URLs to look like this:
    *.giantbomb.com/*
    *.whiskeymedia.com/*
    Preferences / Allowed URLs
    Preferences / Allowed URLs
  5. Login and restart the app.

Starting the app will take you straight to Theater Mode. Sadly, Fluid is Mac only. There is Mozilla's Prism which runs on Windows and Linux but it can't play H264 videos. Microsoft recently released a H264 Plugin for Firefox - this could work but I haven't tried it.

Hope someone will find this usefull.

Cheers!

This is really cool. I havent had much use for theatre mode, but I'll be using it more now. Awesome.
