Top 10 Hardest Games of All Time

I found this on bitmob. I found it interesting that I have never attempted to play any of those games. I'm hardcore casual.

Am I right? Are these hard games?

I disagree with Shinobi, I got through it with no particular problems.

Also, are we talking about games that are challenging hard? Or hard just because they are total dicks? There is a difference, which would actually cause the removal of certain games on this list.

Only three games on there that are truly difficult. The rest are meh. There is no Ghosts 'n' Goblins, and Mega Man 9 should have Mega Man 2 in its place.

I agree that most of those were hard, but some of them don't deserve to be on that list.

Also, I love that Bitmob takes users' articles and puts them on the main page. It's a really good idea to get new and good writers known by professionals like Hsu and the rest of the staff.

I think the only one that deserves to be on that list is Kid Icarus. In fact, nothing past the 16 bit era should be on that list--I think mine would be almost all 8 bit games.

Another reason I love Giantbomb... they don't do top 10's.

The games on that list I've beat: Mega Man 9, Shinobi, Devil May Cry 3.

Kid Icarus and Battletoads were fucking brutal. And as much as I'd like to see a new Kid Icarus game, I revisited it recently and found it to be just horrible. I can't believe I played it through to the end as a kid.

Of all those games I've only finished Devil May Cry 3 . It's interesting how straightforward games are these days and you do not feel that frustration in many games .

I don't remember having that much trouble with Metal Slug 3. Maybe I should revisit it in Anthology.

And, as others have said, the hardest game ever is I Wanna Be the Guy, no contest.

I wanna be the guy isn't that hard, it's the same as a few games in that list like Contra, Metal slug, Ikaruga, Mega man and probably Ninja gaiden it's about learning the pattern and takes time I wouldn't say there hard as such because that's how they're all designed.

My childhood is filled with countless hours of playing Battletoads, I could not beat that game till I was 7 however I used a game genie for infinite lives

I'm sort of surprised I don't see Ghosts 'n Goblins/Ghouls 'n Ghosts.

Mega Man 9 is easy peasy if you use the store.

And most gamers don't know this, but UN Squadron on it's hardest difficulty setting is a BITCH. The hardest game evar!

imo theres a difference between just plain being shit, and being hard. Imo a game needs to be fair in order to be classed as legitimately hard. Games like PS2 Shinobi, Takeshi's Challenge don't count imo, they are just shit, not hard.

Either way, where the hell is R-Type 3? It's not a "These games are hard" list without R-Type 3.

Edit: And also Ghost n Goblins. And i'm sure Mega Man 9 isn't the hardest of the NES style Mega Man games.

Mega Man 2, you think is harder :? Just as a point of reference; The original game is widely seen as notably harder. When Capcom made the sequel they took the diffculty down a step or two, to make the game more fun and appealing to a wider audience. I remember flying through the second game with ease back in the day, while with the first game It took a consisent effort. To the point of having to make notes in the notes page in a manual for the first time ever.

For me, 9 is harder than the first game, if you go for everything it's insanely hard, but of course you do always know it's perfectly possible with good memorization. If you don't realize that, you end up with a mental block and it can reflect in how well you play the game, and how difficult you feel it is.

I have only played Battletoads, Shinobi, Ninja Gaiden and Devil May Cry 3 from that list and I am pretty sure Battletoads is the only one of those I didnt beat. And it wasnt my copy. I remember Shinobi started out pretty easy actually and then I just hit this point and it started kickin' my ass.

Anyway my top 10 list would be JRPG's pick 10 any 10 and that'll do it. I suck balls at anything with a turn based battle system to the point where I just dont bother trying anymore.

As someone else above said, Metal Slug 3 wasn't that hard. I don't understand where they got that idea from. And yes, Ghouls N' Ghosts is a must on this list!
