I was wondering what the most amount of cash someone ever spent on a game before, be it collectors edition or something rare and hard to find.

I recall importing Final Fantasy XI from the US for £70 (about $100) and thinking it was well worth it at the time. Now on recollection I feel bad for ever spending that much money for a mmorpg I didnt even play for more than 2 months. I don't think I will ever spend that much money for a game anyway, even if it comes with some cool collectable.

Recently I was also looking to purchase Zone of the Enders 2 but the rarity just boosts the price to the ridiculous amount of £60.

I ask you, people of Giantbomb, to tell and discuss what the most amount of money you would ever spend or have spent on a game is or was. Are you a sucker for collectable editions or do you see a rare game that you must have or do you dig deep in the bargain bin? (I found Zone of the Enders 1 in the bargain bin for £5!)

The most I've ever paid for a game was £45 for Final Fantasy X back when it was first released. Well worth it, in my opinion, considering I've played through it three times and clocked up over 100 hours each time. I rarely ever buy games for full-price these days, though, as you can find games in supermarkets like Tesco on release day for around £30. I also buy a lot of last-gen stuff second-hand, and therefore very cheaply.

Oh, here it comes... All the europeans who've bought Rock Band will now come descend on this topic and it will be the end of it.

People, you have to realize that when applying pricing from outside U.S., you can't just use a valuta converter. The currency in the U.K. is stronger, so anything you'd convert would be more expensive. Anyway...

Mine would probably be the original Socom, with the headset, which I bought for a staggering $70, or $107 if I used a converter.

Edit: If you also count expansions, add-ons and subscription fees, WOW would lead on with about $250.

Definitely the rock band bundles. If you add in the DLC I’ve spent close to $700. Totally worth it.

If you count subscriptions, it'd had to be World of Warcraft. I'm glad I no longer play that.

The highest price I paid for a game that I can remember is $110 for Shining Force 3 on the Sega Saturn.  I know I have spent over $70 no problem on getting some more rare titles.  Still have to try and get Panzer Dragoon Saga (US Version) for the Saturn sometime...  that will be my most expensive purchase of a game I believe then.

Well, I guess this would be about right; MMO's do have monthly subscriptions (at least most of them do,) and I played WoW for quite awhile. I'd say the box price in addition to the many monthly payments amount to a hefty sum.

I don't even want to tabulate how much I probably spent on WOW including collectors editions...it's got to be around $500.00, but that's just a guess.

I've never payed more than retail for a game, but retail prices have been expensive before. I bought the RB 1/2 bundles, so that was probably the most expensive "single" item I've bought (until 09.09.09!) but I guess that's a pretty common one.  Before that, probably Hey You! Pikachu for the n64. I want to say that was something like 80 or 90 dollars retail. Looking back, that was a huge waste of money although as a kid I really enjoyed the game.

Whatever the Spore special edition was called.  I think it was $80 and totally not worth it.

Whatever Steel Battalion cost when it first came out. $200? Don't remember.

Worth every penny though.

I believe I spent 67.95 euros (92 dollars according to the current exchange rates) on Jak II back in 2003 since that was the SRP for Sony PS2 games at the time. Aside from Rogue Galaxy many years later (which I paid 60 euros for, beat in 45 hours over the course of 5 days, and then returned to the store when I looked at the receipt and found out I could do that), it's the only PAL PS2 game I ever paid full price for. Normally I only import games since it's much cheaper.

70 dollars is as much as I'm willing to spend on a game and I really don't care about collector's editions unless they come with a complete soundtrack (and they never do -- it's always a "best of" selection).

$180 for the original rock band
