Wii Gets Re-Design
Kind of a weird move to be making now. Should have been an option at the start, for all those people who use the system solely as a Wii Sports machine.
Two things: they should pack more than one controller into what's being labelled as a "family edition," and they should have included Sports Resort with the bundle. But I guess the goal of this is to make it as cheap as possible to produce to cash in on those final people who haven't bought a Wii yet. Though I have a feeling the Wii will continue to trickle-sell long into the Wii-U's lifespan, sort of like the PS2 to the PS3.

Yeah but at leas the PS2 was a compelling system to buy, even today, with its extensive 1st and 3rd party library. Heck, I played a PS2 game last WEEK.

This doesn't seem worth buying!"Sounds like they're trying to get people used to seeing the Wii on its side to prep them for the Wii UThat may be bad marketing, as it almost looks like the Wii U because of that
What's with the slew of new redesigns with missing features? :x First the new PSP, now this?
What's next, a 360 without HD graphics?
PS3 without a harddrive?
3DS without game- oh...
If Nintendo really wants to sell more Wiis, it would be wise for them to release some games. Can you think of any good Wii games that came out this year?
Oh that's right. There weren't any. Well hey, maybe it's just a last ditch effort to lure people back to the Wii to play Skyward Sword. Mark my words, it will be the worst selling Zelda console game, even if it is great.

I also imagine Nintendo is going to market the ever-loving hell out of Skyward Sword this holiday.
This redesign gets rid of GC ports and the function for capturing GC discs in the drive. Along with getting rid of the stand and probably removing the unnecessary cut corner on the back right, they'll probably save $10-$15 per unit from all production costs. In addition, the system will probably run a lot cooler and be more reliable.
I don't understand putting Wii Sports back as a pack-in though.
I totally forgot my Wii can play GameCube games... maybe I should buy a few with a controller and check them out. Always liked the look of MGS Twin Snakes.
Only Nintendo could call "laying the Wii on its side" a redesign. It's not just laying on the side, it's new hardware. It looks slimmer. The buttons on the front are closer together and without Gamecube compatibility you can bet the Gamecube controller ports are gone as well. Nothing groundbreaking, just a regular end-of-live update of the hardware as we have seen many times before.
I just like imagining that there's someone out there thinking, "All right, they FINALLY got rid of the GameCube support. NOW I'll buy it."

I don't mean to be such a hater. I'm actually a big Nintendo fan, I'm just very unsatisfied with how they've handled the Wii and how much it's been neglected by Nintendo themselves.
