Spoiler-free help with an early-ish part of the game

I'm currently (as in, it's on pause while I'm typing this) in battle with The Sniper. You know who it is. I'm just avoiding spoilers. So, I didn't know I'd be doing this mission, as it just sort of happened while I was on my way to a side-op. I don't have a sniper rifle. And I can't go back to strut F to get one, as I'm in Afghanistan. I have the default rifle (level 2, with an ACOG scope) and the tranq pistol, along with C4 and resupply grenades. (I tend to travel light on side ops.)

So.. what do I do? I can't sneak up on The Sniper. I can't do anything to them. I accidentally tagged them once, from across the map, with the tranq pistol and it did barely anything.

I know that she hums, and that lets me find her the majority of the time, but any time i get close she drops a grenade and runs to the other side of the map. it's just a crazy wild goose chase at this point and it's getting kind of old.

@marzz4967: I would recommend aborting the mission and better equipping yourself for the fight. Having said that, all I did was run after her and shot her when I got close enough before she had chance to run away. I was also having trouble sneaking up on her so after about an hour of trying I just started sprinting after her.

Or if you don't want to abort the mission, maybe try dropping supply drops on her.

Track her and call supply drops down on her head. Two should knock her out.

@pompouspizza: I literally did this. Just chased after her and shot her with the tranq before she could pull the gun up to her face. Crazy.

Abort mission, come back with a sniper rifle.

EDIT: I suppose you could just supply drop a sniper rifle in as well, if you don't wanna abort.

You can also skip the mission just by sneaking/running through the area she's in. I rather liked the tension of dodging from cover to cover, diving out of boxes to fool her, that sort of thing.

There are parts where she will set up on the ground. if you can track her right, you can kick her and lower her stamina by nearly half every hit. I used that and a combo of some lucky tranq shots to get her down

If you have D Dog as a buddy he will spot her pretty easily for you

Bring d-dog to help spot her and just use a sniper rifle.

Do not worry about dmg versus tranq on her as she will be brought to motherbase either way.

tag the sniper with a way point and drop a supply crate on them .

@marzz4967: I actually managed to hit her with CQC at one point and knock her over. It was very effective.

@halfpastwhenever: He's still a puppy for me, despite having had him since my 2nd mission.

@marzz4967: it does take a while but he's by far the best buddy in the game.

Develop and supply drop in a sniper.

I just counter sniped her with the tranq gun. Get within 100m of her and just shoot her, she goes down eventually. Was fun.
