It feels like it's written by an 80-year old chained up in a basement and forced to watch nothing but old playstation underground trailers and deadpool for 5 years.
The new Mighty No. 9 trailer is dreadful
What is with all that framerate slowdown in the trailer? They couldn't find any footage that didn't make the game look like it was shitting itself?
Did they actually just insult anime fans in a Mighty No. 9 trailer? Who do they think their audience is?
I say that as someone interested in neither of those things, but still.
[edit] I just compared the two, and the dislike ratio for the new Mighty Number 9 trailer is actually higher than even Infinite Warfare's trailer. That's impressive.
I had such high hopes for Mighty No. 9, being a big MegaMan/Inafune fanboy. After an amazing kickstarter, it seems like things were going good for a while. Then the delays happened. Now we're presented with this as a debut trailer? I'm just sad about the whole thing now...
...I will dry my tears with pages from the Mega Man Anniversary Collection manual...
@spaceinsomniac: It's twice as baffling when you realize they have an animated feature for MN9 in the works.
However, they list the target audience for that series at ages 6-11, so if you assume they're aiming this trailer at kids that young, it starts to make a bit more sense. Sorta. I guess.
My first exposure to Mighty No.9 was a skin of the MC in Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z. It cant be any worse than that. This ad just reminds me of Sunset Overdrive's (shitty) marketing and that game turned out okay. That being said I dont like anything about the style of this game and comcept still have yet to prove themselves to me. I liked Soul Sacrifice but that was mainly due to it's dark and goofy tone. The gameplay was average at best.
EDIT: It seems like the "anime fans at prom" gag cut deep which is kind of weird considering this is the site that praised "anime is for jerks and assholes" then again this is the number one place for naked cartoon pussy(tm). (disclaimer: I like anime. lighten up people, it's a bad joke but it's not THAT bad.)
Is that "Youtube Gaming Celebrity" Markiplier doing the narration? If so, that would explain why I wanted to die after watching this trailer. Man, everything around this game has been bungled so poorly it's kind of amazing. My sincere condolences to anyone who backed the kickstarter.

That's from the absorption thing. Mega Man does the same thing when you pick up a power-up, like health. Slight hitch while it feels up your bar. I figure it's trying to harken back to that.
Also, yeah...that was a rough trailer.
@quarters: That was what my assumption was at first, but it looks so hitchy and terrible I have no idea why they would think that's something they should intentionally leave in the game. Like in Mega Man you got a pretty solid pause off of it, this just looks like poor performance.
I am a walking travesty

Looks & sounds like they gave a bullet list of the move set and some b-roll to a clueless marketing agency and said "make a trailer".
The voice over is truly, truly awful but it would be maybe forgivable if the game didn't look terrible as well. The gameplay seems to be the most bare bones, uninteresting 2D platformer imaginable and graphically, both on the technical and art design side, it looks like it was ported from a PS2. The character and enemy designs honestly look fan made and THOSE EXPLOSIONS. Why do the explosions look like pizza? WHY.
I watched the trailer again and I can confirm it is better without that overproduced voice trying to tell you to hate yourself.
Even more bothersome though is the part at the end where it says pre-order to get your "retro hero" with a picture of what looks like a Minecraft character? Not sure Minecraft is old enough to be retro, and certainly not the retro I think of when seeing Mighty no. 9.
For a moment I thought the narrator was John Cena, but it wasn't of course. Maybe this game could still end up being good, but I'm afraid this might go the Star Fox Zero/Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 route where it not only looks ugly, but gameplay wise be flawed.
lmao, this trailer is amazing and it's amazing how much control marketing has over public perception, like does anything about this game actually look different than what they said it would be? Looks like the megaman clone from the guy who made megaman that i thought it would be.
@oursin_360: Considering this is what they originally said the game would be, yes, it is in fact vastly different.
Yyyyeah, saw the retweet by Austin. Pretty, uh...
lol this is spot on
I'll be optimistic, maybe this is like the anti-'Dead Island', i.e. a fun game, but with an abysmal trailer.
@oursin_360: Considering this is what they originally said the game would be, yes, it is in fact vastly different.
I'm not really sure what the big difference is in that pic? Is it a graphics downgrade type of thing?

Are you implying there isn't much of a difference between a sprite based and polygonal based visual style?

Isn't that pretty much exactly what they made?
After watching the trailer, I'm still cautiously optimistic.
@hunkulese: I won't speak to the quality of the game as seen in the trailer. It looked alright? Though I never backed the kickstarter so I have no investment in how it turns out. But it is visually a vastly different thing from what was advertised when the kickstarter launched and what it ended up being.
The Sonic PR guy needs a raise.
Dear Anime Fans: On Prom Night, at least we'll still be there for you. pic.twitter.com/y5p6BPHHi1

Was this trailer tone-deaf? Yes. However, it's probably the least of this games worries at this point.
The beginning was cringe worthy, the rest was meh. The anime line was hilarious because it was so antithetical to their audience. They were going for the "We're all anime fans that can laugh at ourselves," thing but boy, that's not the way you do it when you're marketing a game.
@flashflood_29: Isn't their audience Mega Man fans?
Man, what the fuck even is this thing. Trying to market to the opposite audience that will buy this thing, while simultaneously insulting the one that will. What the shit?
Also, people saying that this is Deadpool level humor should probably preference that it's Daniel Way's Deadpool kind of humor. There is good Deadpool, but it's not written by Daniel.
