I'll talk with Sweep about changing this later, or I'll talk with the guild folks about whether I should have invite capabilities, so I can catch replies like those from @rorie and get the invites out. My apologies.

is this game pay to win?

@stonepawfox: You'll have to give your definition before I can tell you if it is pay to win or not.

There are lockbox drops which you have to buy (or find ranodmly on monsters) keys for, but the gear they give you aren't really anymore powerful than what you can find as regular drops, you just get multiple pieces per lockbox.

There is a cash shop, and it has a ton of cosmetic stuff.

It also has:

• Mounts that have unique looks but are the same speed as in-game mounts
• Companions that have unique looks but are the same power as the in-game companions
• Packs of crafting materials, but only starter packs(IE: tier 1 and 2 materials)
• Healing items (you get potions out the wazoo in the game, so not really relevant)
• "Free" respec tokens (You can buy respecs in the game), rename tokens, extra character slots, extra companion storage slots
• Full slot bags (which can be eventually obtained in game, too)

That doesn't fit my description of pay to win, and as far as I can tell nothing in the shop is any more powerful than what you get in game, you just get it with real cash rather than in-game cash.

There's also a weird in-game cash to Zen/real cash exchange system, but that market fluctuates wildly in all of Cryptic's games.

I played a good 10-20 hours of this during beta. It was a good time; I might play some of it when it releases (in a few days, right?).

I just wish there was a class that fit my style. I like the 'exotic magic class' (Shaman/Warlock in WoW, for instance). So far, the Control Wizard and Cleric are boring and conventional as fuck. None of their attacks have the oomph or colour that I crave.

@project343: Tuesday is open beta start day, yes.

As far as the classes, I really liked the Great Weapon Fighter. They used to be all about sustained AOE damage with middling single target damage and middling defense, but between the 3rd and 4th beta weekends they got hit by the nerf bat with the force of 1000 suns.

Currently, I think they're supposed to be some sort of hybrid single target DPS/off-tank, but they're kind of really poor at both.

That being said, I am now trying the Control Wizard and Rogue, and they both seem decently fun.

For what you described, I'm betting the Scourge Warlock will be just for you, but that won't actually be out for a while. (Players found the Scourge Warlock and the Two-Weapon Ranger in the game files during beta).

@eujin I'm going to play it when it hits open beta, so if you're making a GB guild or just want to group up I'm down :D

I completely forgot this game even existed, let alone that it was actually coming out. I should investigate this matter further.

I am currently on Dragon, but as Deathtrap mentioned he is on Mindflayer. I could likely remake on Tuesday, but would rather people make a decision as a group rather than just me.

I have enjoyed the game since alpha, so I paid the $60 for the horse/starter items, and therefore have been playing since Saturday.

So it sounds like it's decided that Mindflayer is the realm of choice for GiantBomb players?

The game really caught my attention after hearing about The Foundry (even thought it's not part of the game yet.) I'll have to see how my computer handles the game, but, hopefully it'll run it because I'm more than willing to check out an MMO that has creation tools for stuff like that in it.

No idea about the realm. I currently have all 3 of my guys on Dragon, but am willing to relocate if the majority want Mindflayer.

Pretty sure Foundry is in game - just have to reach level 15 to unlock it.

EDIT: And I've heard Mindflayer is the place to be - it's why I picked that server when I started.

So. Sounds like Mindflayer is the place to be based off the responses. I will remake my guys onto Mindflayer, and edit the opening post to let anyone know who comes into the thread.

If/once we get a guild started, we can start a proper guild thread.

Edit: Does anyone have name suggestions for the guild? Lincoln Force/Bomb Squad doesn't sound very D&D-y, but I'm up for whatever.

I am planning to try the game out tomorrow, will keep an eye on you guys if I find the game interesting.

Imagination isn't my strong suit, but maybe it'll give you some ideas.

In seriousness, it opens in a few min, we on "Mind-flayers." Do we need to pick a good role for the guild? Seems like that would be smart if we are going to be small.

Hrmmm, I suppose Brodehouse will give it a shot. If it sucks though I'm quitting, mark me. I will probably make a tank fighter because that's my favorite D&D class. I don't care if it's simple as shit, simple is elegant. If I could make an atheist paladin I would, because they at least have a good reason to pump up their charisma.

Also I was the one who named Good Luck Have Bothans, the Republic SWTOR guild... So thus I will suggest Good Luck Have Bugbears. Since I doubt people know what balhannoths are. Aside from me.

@brodehouse: The Guardian Fighter is surprisingly awesome.

Especially since Block outright blocks all damage infront of you if your guard isn't broken, then you have weird swipe attacks that do good damage.

The Two-Handed Fighter right now is apparently a bit borked, but I may roll one anyway. Or a Wizard. Because ice lasers.

@fateofnever: Balhannoths are how you make any rogues or fighters extremely frustrated with the DM's choice of encounter design.

Talked to Dave tonight and he seemed keen on the name Order of Icewind Dave.
