Well, many people seems to be making a top list of something, so I might as well make a list too! :D My list is not going to be the top 18 movies I like, it’s just 18 random movies I favor.  I will also include a whole series as one movie, because they are all good.  I like uncommon things, and movies that are good that people don’t usually see or know of.  I don’t necessarily like what everyone else likes, so everyone who sees this list will probably have some disagreements, but remember that it’s not selection of my top movies.  Remember, I mostly like comedy movies, not action as much.  Well, if you got a recommendation on a movie that I should watch, leave me a comment in the blog.  If you want to know if I watched a movie, ask me.  If there is anything you want to add, then I’ll look at what you want me to see!  Hope ya’ll at least like some of the movies on the list.

The Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

The Superman Movies

The Prize Winner from Defiance, Ohio

Mrs. Doubtfire

Batman Movie Series

Rush Hour Trilogy

Bicentennial Man

Patch Adams

Ace Ventura Series

Shrek Trilogy

Happy Gilmore

Dead Like Me

The Nutty Professor

The Sound of Music

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me

See ya'll later! Tireyo643 out!

Happy Gilmore is such a great movie. I recored it using DVR when it was on, but unfortunately it was the censored version so it's not as funny.

Good list, although if you slap The Evil Dead trilogy and Ace Ventura:When Nature Calls on there it would be more complete.

Interesting list...while I may have different tastes, it's our differences that make these conversations entertaining.  I won't question whether these can really add up to 18 if trilogies and series are included.  I, personally, could never give any merit to Superman 3 or 4.  And, that makes me wonder if you were going to combine original features and sequels, why didn't you say "The Christopher Nolan Batman movies" instead of just The Dark Knight?

But anyway, a few suggestions for you:
  • Recently, I saw You Don't Mess with the Zohan.  It's not great, but I enjoyed it enough to recommend.  I think it was funnier than a lot of other comedies that came out last year. Since you liked Happy Gilmore, you might like this, too.  The movie is rated "R", by the way.
  • Last week I watched Kevin Smith's Zack and Miri Make a Porno.  This was very funny throughout its entire running time, although it gets a bit schmaltzy at the end.  For a movie with the word 'porno' in the title, there really isn't a lot of nudity in the flick, but be warned this is definitely a "R" rated film.
  • One of my favorite under appriciated animated films is Hoodwinked.  It's a twisted take on the red riding hood storyline but with plenty of jokes only adults would understand as well.  If you liked Shrek, you should check this one out.
  • Since you seem to be a Robin Williams fan, you should see (if you haven't already) Good Morning Vietnam & The World According to Garp.  They were both made over 20 years ago, but I consider them among his finest work.
  • If you like Jackie Chan movies, then the Police Story(Police Force)/Super Cop films are the best way to go.  Funny, energetic and always with that classic Chan use-any-object-as-a-weapon martial choreography, the 3 films are truely enjoyable.  The movies have variation on titles since they were originally Chinese, of course.
  • If you like pirate movies, then I have two to recommend, although neither are 5 star classics.  The first is a much maligned film starring Gina Davis called Cutthroat Island.  The second is an older prirate comedy called Yellowbeard.  It's very "Monty Python-ish", so if you liked Monty Python and the Holy Grail, then you'll probably like Yellowbeard.  I also recommend Master and Commander, an adventure film starring Russell Crowe.  It's not really a pirate movie but it is set in the same time period and takes place on the high seas.
  • Finally, you need to see the old Rankin & Bass animated Hobbit television movie.  It aired originally in 1977, and started my love of the genre.  I suggest you check it out before the new feature film hits theaters in a few years.  Also, there was a Ralph Bakshi animated version of the Lord of the Rings (1978) that is trippy and can be considered the spiritual sequel to the Hobbit TV movie...and there was an actual sequel in an animated production of the Return of the King that aired in 1980.

Now for some of my favorites that you may not be familiar with...
  • Woody Allen's "funny" stuff.  Back before the whole Soon Yi incident or his modern exploration of serious subject matter, Woody Allen made funny, off the wall comedies.  Often wordy and intellectual, his features didn't speak down to the audience.  Much like today's Daily Show, you needed to have a decent education to get all the jokes.  I recommend Bananas, Annie Hall, Broadway Danny Rose and Love and Death.  There are a lot of other films worth your time, but these are the ones I found the funniest.
  • For martial arts films, I recommend two of Stephen Chow's movies, Kung-fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer.  These are humorous action film in the style of Jackie Chan, but fresh and modern.  Also seek out Kung-Fu Fighter.  It's not a Stephen Chow movie but it really feels like it could have been.
  • Continuing with more Asian films, I highly recommend two "food" movies from the far east.  The 1st is a comedy called Tampopo.  Its a about a Japanese woman who opens her own noodle stand and the truck driver who teaches her how to cook.  Similar to a Robert Altman movie, there are lots of smaller stories told inbetween the overall plotline.  The second is Eat Drink Man Woman.  This is a chinese drama about a father and his three daughters.  The father is a chef, and the preparation of meals is the hub from which the three daughter's stories revolve.
  • Now to the classics.  These are a few old flims I adore.  To begin with, One Two Three is a James Cagney movie set in post war Germany before the erection of the Berlin Wall.  Cagney plays the head of distribution for Coke-Cola in the divided city, and he is asked to look out for the daughter of the president of the company during her vacation.  However, things go awry when she sneaks off into East Germany, and it's up to him to correct the whole mess if he expects to keep his job.  This film was directed by Billy Wilder, who also directed the film comedy classic Some Like it Hot.  Almost everything he did is worth your time.   His Girl Friday is another film comedy classic about two bickering news reporters as they cover an execution by the state.  It stars Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell as the main characters.  While the setting may seem morose, the joy comes from the frantic pace of the witty dialog between the two.  And last but not least, there is The Thin Man.  A comedic detective tale about a smart, seasoned gumshoe and his rich, socialite wife.  The story was penned by Daschiell Hammett, who also wrote The Maltese Falcon novel. It is light and fun with an ending that is classic 1930s detective.  Starring William Powell and Myrna Loy, the two exchange hilarious banter and one-liners while attempting to uncover the fate of the mysterious "thin man".

Anyway, that's enough for now and it should keep you busy for a few days.  I didn't mean to go on and on like this, but that's old this old dog rolls from time to time.

teh_destroyer: Never seen evil dead.  Fixed Ace Ventura though.  I forgot there was a second one.

PenguinDust: Wow what a list. Sheww I'll start at the beginning.  And you're certaily fine for listing what you recommend to me, and you was very descriptive.  I liked that.  Anyways, I like all tthe Batman, so I fixed it .

  • I'm not scared of R ratings.  Seen some already. ;) Don't Mess With the Zohan seemed good. I also liked his Anger Management movie with Jack Nickelson.
  • Might not give "Zack and Miri make a Porno" a chance.  Not into sexual humor too much. :(
  • I liked "Hoodwinked"! It was so funny! That squirrel, Twitchy I think was his name, was hiliarious. :D
  • I love anyting with Robin Williams in it.  I seen Good Morning Vietnam, but not The world according to Garp.  I liked the TV series he was in called Mork and Mindy.  The first season was the best.  I wish I seen all the episodes though.
  • SuperCop is an awesome Jackie Chan.  I liked his Mr. Nice Guy, and the Accidental Spy movies!  Never watched Police Force, so i'll have to look into that!
  • I just like Johnny Depp.  I only like a few pirate movies, so if what you listed is similar to Pirates of the Caribbean, I'll consider giving them a try.
  • I seen the Hobbit animation, and it was pretty good.  The others just didn't catch interest.

- I haven't seen any of those movies at the end, so I'll give them a try.  Never liked Woody Allen material though, sorry. Great list!

I've never heard of this film, however I have seen a Steve Martin film called "L.A. Story" that was very good.  It costarred his then wife Victoria Tenent and a perky young Sarah Jessica Parker.  The film was actually very reminiscent of Woody Allen's Manhattan but with a satirical love of the LA lifestyle.  If you like Steve Martin, check out Dead Mean Don't Wear Plaid.  It combines classic film noir with Martin's askew style of humor.  It tells the story of a private detective as he is pulled deeper into a mysterious tale of double crosses and murder.  But the uniqueness of the movie is that almost half the movie is scenes from other 1940s film noir classics like Double Indemnity and This Gun for Hire.

That's what it's called PenguinDust! L.A. Story!  I couldn't remember the exact name.  Good to hear that it was good!  I'm trying to hunt it down.  Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid? Sounds rare.  This place where I'm at never seems to get any of the "good" older movies.  I'll check into finding that!

:D You're staring to burn a hole in my head about Woody Allen! :D

The only one from your list I like is the Rush Hour trilogy, even if the third one was subpar compared to the other two.

Then you might not want to see Don't Mess With the Zohan; it's basically a 90-minute dick joke.

I've seen almost every movie on your list. If you like Adam Sandler, you should try Billy Madison. Adam Sandler also did a drama called Reign Over Me. It stars Don Cheadle and Adam Sandler, great movie. I like Chris Farley, Tommy Boy and Black Sheep are my favorites.

Quadrifoglio: Well, I did have doubts about it.

PenguinDust: Might have to convince me on seeing Don't Mess with the Zohan. :D

You seem to like comedies and epic movies, which are not exactly my forte. But you should check out some Jim Carrie movies like The Mask and Liar, Liar or Ben Stiller's Zoolander. For epics, just go back a few years to Spartacus, fucking awesome movie. You also seem to be into Robin Williams so check out The Dead Poets Society and Good Morning Vietnam.

Oh and for buddy films, Jackie Chan is the way to go, just ignore The Medallion and The Tuxedo.

Did you not find Pirates Of The Caribbean a bit convoluted. I love it all the same for Keira Knightley, but, I found it tough to follow (and at 20, I'm not necessarily the child audience they're aiming for). Perhaps it's the kind of thing you need to watch twice?

Anywayyyyyyyy... love, love, love Ace Ventura. Have you seen Liar, Liar? Because you really should if you haven't.

Reign Over Me is about this guy (Adam Sandler) who lost his family in the 9/11 attacks. He has post traumatic stress disorder. Don Cheadle plays an old friend from college who wants to help him get his life back. It's a drama, but it's funny as well.

Chris Farley played the bus driver in Billy Madison. He was also a Saturday Night Live performer.

Also, with Steve Martin. Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid is a great movie as the user above said and one of my favorite Steve Martin movies is Roxanne.

The last two pirates did, but they were decent.  Liar, Liar is Awesome!  I loved it when he bashed his head with a toilet seat. :D LOL!

Dr. Cash: I seen alot of movies on your list. Ok, here we go!
I watched: Rocky1-2-3-4, Ghost Busters, Wizard Of Oz, The Natural, Most of the Bond Movies, Revenge Of The Nerds 1, 2, and 3, Forest Gump, Terminator 1-2, The Blues Brothers, Airplane, The Goonies, Back To The Future 1,2, and 3, Independence Day, The Natural, Raiders Of Lost Ark, Empire Strikes Back, and all the Supermans 1,2,3,4, and Returns!  Nice list!

Claude: Dad educates me on Saturday Night Live Members.  Just didn't know about Chris Farley.  As for the movies, I might have to look at the Adam Sandler one.  The other one didn't catch my interest.  David Spade is not my favorite actor.
