21 Today! Favorite kinds of Alcohol?

I'm not getting wasted or anything tonight, just for future reference: what types of alcohol should I buy and try now that I am legally allowed to here in the states.

Tequila and Jack Daniels. Just don't drink too much of either if you don't want to get wasted.

EDIT: And if you want an excellent beer, you should try to find a place where they serve Paulaner.

Vodka and orange juice. Gets you buzzed quick and tastes pretty darn good while pumping you full of vitamin C.

Johnny Walker with Kinley Ginger Ale and a drop of lemon juice.

If you can find it I believe it's wells brewery. They make a banana bread beer that will blow your fuckin' mind.

A cold beer, vodka with just about anything, and The Captain is always great. Shots are pretty nice too, as long as it isn't Tequila, fuck tequila.

White Russian (vodka and milk), just like the Dude.

Moscow Mule or a Dark and Stormy.

Classy as fuck and delicious.

Stay the FUCK away from anything with Blue Curacao.

And I'm pretty sure you can't get it in the US, but try and import some real absinthe. You can buy Absinthe in the states, but it won't contain grand wormwood, which is the ingredient that contains thujone (the psychoactive element. It's chemical composition is remarkably similar to THC.) Without the thujone don't even bother.

My booze tastes are pretty simple: gin & orange, jack & coke or hard cider.

@lava: Can't go wrong with Vodka, mix it with just about anything you already have in the house, best drink in the world in my opinion.

Scotchy Scotchy Scotch. peaty single malts and sweet spicy bourbons.

I had something called an Aloe High the other day. Aloe Water and Vodka, it was pretty incredible and you can buy huge bottles of each for next to nothing. A dangerous combination.

Vodka Orange or Rum & Coke. I'm simple.

Kentucky Bourbon with Cola, straight Irish Cream, Wine, Yuengling Lager

@lava: Never drink alcohol with the sole intention of getting wasted, you'll fuck up and never want to drink again.

Note: Not the vodka with the cold beer.

Capt. Morgans and coke is always good for a start.

Personally, being from the south-west of the UK, I mainly like to drink cider. Though I do not know the quality of cider in the states.

Also, take it easy when starting to drink. It is far too easy to go nuts straight out the gate.

i like jack with club soda, tequila with grapefruit soda and dark beer

La Bomba Negra.

Pour some Black Label rum into a shaker with ice. add about a teaspoon of brown sugar. Shake it. Drink it.

First few sips taste a bit funny (to me) but then it turns into the best drink ever. Careful though, you really can't taste that it's almost pure rum, so it's easy to drink fast and things can get ugly if you don't pace yourself.

Also good call on the not getting wasted part.

I recently found out that they sell pre-mixed Dark n Stormys in a can. Avoid these.

In general, you should avoid any pre-mixed drinks, but yeah, in this case, it would ruin it.

Only higher end places will serve these though. Most shitty bars don't have real ginger beer.

Or you could just drink The Kraken.

You're not a real man until you drink copious amounts of Ale during the daytime.

Try a little of everything until you figure out your own tastes. I'm not suggesting getting wasted... I mean over time.

Whiskey-bourbon, specifically as an additive to some homemade eggnog. Do it.

I thought getting wasted was the only reason you'd drink that crap.

Well... The Kraken is still just an above average black rum. Sure you could use that. But drinking just the rum is pretty far from the same thing.

Sad story: the only bar I know of in the area that could make a real Dark N Stormy closed down last year :(

Luckily, BevMo has started selling legit Gosling's Ginger Beer and now I can make a proper DNS whenever the hell I want :D

I find it funny when people ask for recommendations on alcohol. Everyone has such varied tastes, that's why there are a billion different types of liquors and beers. When I took my brother out for his 21st I took him to a place that served a lot of microbrews and I dont think there was more than 1 that he enjoyed. And I was ordering him like 18 dollar IPA's that I rarely rarely treat myself to. You know what he prefers? Fucking Stella Artois. I'm more of a vodka gimlet kinda guy in the long run any way. Kettle One vodka; good calorie:alcohol content ratio.

That is most definitely the case with many people, but I drink it because I like the taste. Nothing beats a good Jack D and coke or an ice cold Tequila shot.

Everyone should try a gin and tonic. I would also say the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, but the original recipe is kinda hard to do, and I haven't tried the "Earth" versions yet.

And of course, you can't go wrong with a Famous Grouse Gold Reserve.

Screwdrivers, but only because they're ridiculously easy to make. I wouldn't buy them, but if you have vodka and pulp-free orange juice in the fridge (seriously, make sure it's pulp-free), you know what to do.

I'm more of a whiskey person myself. Jack Daniels is easy enough to find, but right now I'm trying to figure out this whole "Scotch" thing.

Also, stay the hell away from Jagermeister. There is only death there.

I've never understood why anyone would drink beer (though, to each their own). All that shitty flavor for almost nothing but water in return. My advice is to find a good liquor and learn to love it, know it, and become an expert in it. My personal choice -- and the only thing I will drink -- is scotch. There are countless varieties, brands, ages, and ways to drink it, but I generally prefer 18 or 24 yr fine or sherry oak Macallan served neat.

On rare occasion, I might be willing to indulge in a little Ten Cane rum. Especially if I'm making mojitos in the summer for guests. But that's about it, outside of scotch.

I never cared for beer -- or any alcohol, really -- when I was younger. Not even when I was dating a girl who had a bartender for a mom that would always serve me things like white russians. It wasn't until I was a bit older and had my first taste of a quality scotch that I finally found something that "spoke" to me.

A nice starter drink would be Southern Comfort with lime. The fruity taste takes the edge off of the whiskey. If you find you like the whiskey move onto something a little less girly. I am also a big Captain Morgan rum drinker with a little coke.

Moved this to Off-Topic. Also, I'm a fan of Malibu and diet Pepsi (Pepsi Max is even better with it, if you can find it) and Corona. You really can't go wrong with a sixer of Corona.

You should try Jagermeister.

Rum, cognac and whisky. Yes I am a brown liquor guy.

Not mixed together, but if you get to a point were someone is able to talk you into, or god forbid you are the one wasted enough to be suggesting vodka shots, I find that I HAVE to have a cold beer nearby or else it's going to end badly, and I can actually drink vodka as a standalone drink, though it's definitely better mixed.

Screwdrivers are gosh darn delicious, especially if you make them with whipped flavored vodka. If you are looking for something tasty that will also completely ruin you, try an AMF.

vodka is a super safe bet, since you can mix it with anything. ANYTHING.

Clontarf whiskey. Or any whiskey. Usually with a coke is decent.

Also Jack Daniels and Dr. Pepper is pretty good.

Vodka. In my experience Svedka is affordable and not quite as abrasive as the bottom of the barrel stuff.

Try everything.

Buchanan's Whiskey is good and almost- cheap. El Amo for tequila.

Both of those are pure Mexican favorites. ~ Beer never counts in this conversation. But Sam Adams is my favorite.

Crown and cola. If it's good enough for Dimebag Darrel and Dave Grohl, it's good enough for me. Dirty martinis are also awesome.

If it's summertime, I do enjoy a nice Long Island Iced Tea.

Dr. Pepper and Kraken leads to poor life decisions.

I'm going to possibly be the weird guy out here and say that my favorite liquor is amaretto.

But I'm not much of a liquor drinker in general.
