When I got my PS3, I remember seeing deals advertising a bundle where you get a blu-ray and a HDMI cable for half price, £50, then I talked to the guy at the counter and he sold me one for £4 which worked perfectly.

#3 Posted by jonnyboy (2920 posts) -

I could spend that $450 to see Saw 6 in high definition, or spend it on laser eye surgery to see everything in high definition.

Pretty much everything on amazon.ca. That site fucking sucks. Amazon never has any stock, but there seems to always be some asshole selling $20-$60 games for like $150+

#5 Posted by Inkerman (1448 posts) -

Average price in Australia is over $30, even online you'll be lucky to find one under $20, at least when I looked start of this year.

Lol, digital signal is digital and should all be quite similar for the series, like all 1.3 should be similar and all hdmi 1.4. Which means if you buy a cheap cable, you only have to worry it's not a flimsy piece of junk because the signal should be quite similar.

#7 Posted by Zabant (1231 posts) -
@HandsomeDead: Yep, my 99 cent cable is as good as any HDMI cable out there. Its a digital signal, it doesn't matter if the cable is encrusted with diamonds...its going to be the same quality picture.

It's not as expensive as Activision's $775 branded HDMI cables.

#9 Posted by XTraFries (209 posts) -

i literally just bought one for 2 bucks on amazon a few hours ago.

that's a pretty hilarious product

Guys, it's Monster, that's what they do.

Moving on.

I dont know dude, that sounds pretty sweet.
#13 Posted by ShaunassNZ (2128 posts) -

Well if I bought 2222 of those... thats million bucks

#14 Posted by PerryVandell (2103 posts) -

The HDMI cable that is currently connected into my PS3 was about... 10-15 bucks? HDMI cables at normal stores are grossly overpriced but this is just sad.

#15 Posted by Bones8677 (3208 posts) -

I just bought myself a 15 foot HDMI cable for $2. What now?!

Monster is the worst company.  Activision should buy them.

#19 Posted by wolf_blitzer85 (5250 posts) -

That is for people who still think HDMI is the future.

That took an unreasonably large amount of time for what it is.
#21 Posted by ch3burashka (4991 posts) -

Monster overcharges for its cables.

Monster sues unrelated business that tangentially have the word "Monster" in their  name.

Monster is an asshole.

#26 Posted by iam3green (14390 posts) -

yeah, it's over 9,000 times more expensive than anything. i laughed at that. it's to expensive for a thing like that. there are brands that are only like $5. it's how much i spent on $5 a HDMI that i don't use.

DUDE IT MUST HAVE SO GOOD PIC QUALITY IM BUYING ONE RITE NOW.

Yeah, I got a .75 cent HDMI cable from amazon and can't tell the difference between it and one my friend bought for 45 bucks at Best Buy.

#29 Posted by TheMaxMeister (78 posts) -

People used to be shot for doing what Monster are doing now.

#30 Edited by Raven_Sword (3438 posts) -

lol, and you can get a just as good HDMI cable of Monoprice.com for like 5 bucks. All HDMIs are the same.
#31 Posted by Juvenfly (125 posts) -
@Raven_Sword:   monoprice is the way to go.  I haven't bought a cable in a brick and mortar store since I discovered that site.  It's crazy what the mark up is on stuff like that.

@CH3BURASHKA:

I wonder if they tried going after Monster Energy Drink.

Is it weird that I imagine a black guy holding an HDMI cable saying "look away, look back at me, THE CABLE IS NOW ENCRUSTED IN DIAMONDS"

#36 Posted by Vlademir (1029 posts) -

Yeah, monster likes to overcharge. An HDMI cable from ebay for $0.50 will work just as well as a million-dollar diamond-studded HDMI cable from Monster only you'll also have enough money left over for a house to use your console in.

It's actually a pretty smart move, because at those prices you only need a handful of people who are retarded enough to buy something like that and you're set.

#38 Posted by ZeForgotten (10397 posts) -

But, it has "ULTIMATE HIGH SPEED" !
Why did I read that in the Unreal Tournament announcer voice?

#39 Posted by Subject2Change (2966 posts) -

You do realize that not everything is created for consumers, correct? 35 feet has the professional in mind NOT the dude trying to connect to his PS3; unless he want to have it run from the other room...

#40 Posted by CharlesAlanRatliff (5371 posts) -

I got all of my HDMI cables for 21 cents each off Amazon. They are of the highest quality, and I never realized how much these companies rip you off on their prices.

#41 Posted by TheGremp (2064 posts) -

My brother works at Best Buy...  His employee prices are something like 125% of what the store paid for them originally.  He generally gets $30 cables for around $3.  So yeah, cables are a rip-off in general.

@Zabant:

You should check out a company called Siltech, they trade cables for crazy money.

 Siltech Emperor Crown Speaker Cable

The Emperor Crown speaker cables are the best I have ever heard in the systems used for the listening tests. Their sonic attribute engraved itself with the combination tried for the listening tests and refined all the important elements for which audiophiles and music lovers strive. The list includes, among other things, resolution, smoothness, imaging, air, texture, body and, most importantly, a very high degree of neutrality, which allows a rather clear audition of a system’s hardware. This is a good thing, though it can be dangerous as the cable exposes all imperfections of speakers and electronics. I like the metal cable supports and careful auditions showed that floor vibration, usually caused by the loudspeakers’ bass energy, does deteriorate resolution and spatial elements, if only by a diminutive extent.

This little fucker will set you back about $40k every 2 meters, though the guy who wrote this review makes it sound like sex to the ear.

Expensive cables are expensive.

#43 Posted by ___pocalypse (561 posts) -

I bought two HDMI cables from Amazon like two years ago for a buck. I can't imagine spending so much rent/food/bill money on something that is probably mostly only cosmetically better. There might be legit reasons it's higher quality buuuut...dude. Even if I had to replace a cable every day for a YEAR it still wouldn't be that much. Never worth it.

#44 Posted by Humanoid (206 posts) -

I bought mine for £5 and it works perfectly.

#45 Posted by GoofyGoober (937 posts) -

I payed 3 dollars and 50 cents for mine. Whoever would buy that is a fucking idiot.

I checked those guys out, went to their webshop; they sell chopsticks made out of pure silver and gold. That may be the greatest thing ever. An A/V cable company that will sell you chopsticks.

A cable that costs more than any of the devices I am going to connect it to, what a great idea.

Man I wish I had a place nearby that did laser eye surgery for  $450
#49 Posted by Nekroskop (2786 posts) -

Man, I can't even remember how many times a storeclerk has tried to push a 100 USD HDMI on me and my friends. The worst part about it is that some of them actually believe in that.
Brb. Taking a dump in my diamondencrusted toilet with extra bandwidth capabilities

#50 Posted by nintendoeats (5975 posts) -

This is still a rip-off, but as I understand it those more expensive cables have value at high lengths like this, because signal degradation does start to occur in "lower quality" cables. I'm pretty sure you could get away with something that costs, you know, 50 bucks or something.
