What's good everyone? I'm just curious to find out what kind of accent do you have.
I'm from New York and my accent is kind of raspy, but it's quite clear and proper. I do have a sample of my voice on my MySpace and Tagged page.
Accents
"A northern English accent. We pronounce vowels more sharply than the South"Terrrst. (Toast).
"HazBazz said:well thats a Hull accent. Where I'm from (Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire), where we say bath, someone from london says 'Barth'. Actually, thinking about it, its just the A's we pronounce sharply"A northern English accent. We pronounce vowels more sharply than the South"Terrrst. (Toast)."
If I could dig up and look for that topic about accents...I will probably remember it after I make this post. Pretty sure I have an Eastern or so accent.
(website I took a poll on indicated where I was -- circled South Jersey, which is where I live).
Edit - I knew I would find it. Right here.
I have an Irish Accent specifically a Cork accent. I say "like" after pretty much every sentence. I also say "do you know what I mean" alot pronounced "j'naw mean".
I have a weird accent. I was brought up in the south of England (not far from london) by a family from north east England (sunderland), and now I'm living in sunderland. People from the south think I've got a nothern accent. People from the north think I've got a southern accent. So I've got a weird blend between the two, although personally I feel my accent is allot more southern than northern, but I am noticing that the longer I live up here I'm starting to pick up the accent more.
" I live in Georgia now, but most people here say "soda" and it sounds mad funny. I've always refer to it as "pop" and most people just don't have a clue what I'm talking about... the reactions on their faces is fucking hilarious! "
-By the way i've had a Doctor once ask me if i was Irish and i asked him what gave it away and he said it was the accent. Weirder still is i'm not fully Irish and never been to Ireland so my accent is just plain strange i guess.
I was born and raised in northern California but now I live in the MIdwest and I seem to be picking up the accent. I still use the words dude, totally and like when I am very angry, nervous or excited.
I'm from Newfoundland and lots of people say that we have a funny accent. I'm not sure how fast I talk but for some reason it doesn't seem to be any trouble for my XBL friends.
I have a "Bog" accent probably. I have heard that the midwest has the least noticeable accent in the U.S. I mean the most average accent. Even to the point that news reporters try to imitate it.
" Does northwest america even have an accent? I feel like we talk pretty correctly up here, but i'm sure texans think the same way. "
Does a Pacific North-west accent with some Georgian contamination count as an accent southerners in Georgia say i don't sound like them. Oh and I too say pop instead of soda. And you are correct everyone else speaks differently than North Westerners because it is the correct accent and everyone just gets it wrong.
i took a quiz and got: Neutral You`re not Northern, Southern, or Western, you`re just plain -American-. Your national identity is more important than your local identity, because you don`t really have a local identity. You might be from the region in that map, which is defined by this kind of accent, but you could easily not be. Or maybe you just moved around a lot growing up.
" Irish...but kinda more neutralised accent. ie. you wont find me saying 'top a da mornin' t'ye'.... "
im from texas but i dont have the stereotypical southern accent. i was born on the most western side of texas right on the border of mexico.
being im not mexican i can see how i tend to speak faster the most texans now that i live more in the heart of texas. but most people in texas dont talk as people think we do
I have a slight Boston accent. All that means is that we don't pronounce the letter "R" all that much. "Car" is "cah", etc. I know it's fucking retarded.....or is that retahded?
I'm from South London (or should that be Sarf Lahndan) but I acted a bit and read Linguistics as part of my degree so I can do a decent version of whatever you fancy. Accents are a very interesting topic generally, especially in regards to the USA. A massive country with a period of mass immigration at the turn of the 20th century and yet such a small amount of diversity in accent. Compared to some countries it's bizarre, especially on the west coast.
" A non-fake one of these:"

"@Demonstride said:How about no? There's no right or wrong accent. Everyone has one. And yeah, yall do have accents, at least to us. We make fun of the way you talk, and we make fun of the way yankees(New Englanders) talk. And I know everyone makes fun of the way we talk. It's just how it is. I guess the actual CORRECT english-speaking accent would be people from England."@AgentJ said:Does a Pacific North-west accent with some Georgian contamination count as an accent southerners in Georgia say i don't sound like them. "" Does northwest america even have an accent? I feel like we talk pretty correctly up here, but i'm sure texans think the same way. "In Alabama, we can tell where someone's from as soon as they open their mouth: North, Middle, and South Alabama all sound different. If you're from within 25 miles around Atlanta, I don't really consider that part of the south. They drive gas-efficient sedans(my truck was the biggest one there), and people on the interstate were drafting behind me to save gas(either that, or to read my bumper stickers for 2 hours). It was like my vacation to California all over again. If it's carbonated, it's called Coke... Unless it's Mountain Dew. If you go to a restaurant here and you ask, "what kind of coke do you have?" She'll name everything that's carbonated. If you go to a restaurant and ask what kind of pop do you have, everyone in the restaurant will stare at you and think to themselves "man I hate the way that person talks, I just want to punch him".If you meet a person and you think he's older than you, you refer to him as "sir" or "ma'am"When I went to California for vacation last year, people there thought I was being an asshole when I said "excuse me sir?" or "yes/no ma'am". They thought I was being a smartass. Here, if you don't say it, it's considered rude. And the WORST part about California, was that they didn't have any kind of sweet tea. They had this raspberry crap that they told me was sweet tea.So everyone thinks their accent is the right accent. There IS no right accent."
