Hey guys.

Well i stand up next to a mountain, And i chop it down, with the edge of my hand.
Well i stand up next to a mountain, And i chop it down, with the edge of my hand.

I'm listening to Jimi Hendrix and he's rocking my socks off as usual. Whenever i listen to him, i wonder why he seems to be the only African American rockstar around?
We all know that African American musicians excel at music, they just have a whole higher level of groove and instrument skill, and since i love Rock and Metal music, i'd love to listen to other black musicians who surely wrote exceptional music, just like Jimi Hendrix revolutionized the electric guitar world forever.
I've been listening to this music for years and i honestly can't think of.. anyone else! All other bands are white.

No Jazz or Blues musicians, just hard ass rock/metal. Thanks to any recommendations!

Edit: This is not meant to be racist or ignorant in any way. It's not a coincidence that the most soulful music out there was written by black musicians.. nor is it a coincidence that 90% of Blues/Jazz/Soul musicians are black.
Not every generalized statement is thoughtless, mindless or racists..

I'm quite partial to a bit of Skindred, they're a little bit like Deftones if Chino was a fat black welsh Rasta :-)

Yes he is.... as far as I know. I've never read any other race attributed to him.

Also, I miss the original KSE singer ;_;

Jimi Hendrix is the only one I can think of off the top of my head.
I hate that phrase, "African American".
I mean it's the same thing as saying "Caucasian rock star".

What? black musicians are known to be skilled at instruments and very innovative with their music composing, there's so much soul in african american music. and they're the best at creating buzz or sounding groovy
Do you enjoy being a typical tool who thinks every statement of that sort is hateful/racist or an ignorant generalization ?

Then why are 90% of blues/jazz/soul musicians black? is that a coincidence?

Though I don't listen to them, I know that Death is an all-black punk band, as a posed to the death metal band of the same name.

because of very special social circumstances that made it that way (because they were ex slaves), not because they were black
Jazz, blues and soul came from slavery and the slaves of the time were black, it's due to them being black in that regard but not due to some kind of racial aptitude to music. saying that is pure eugenics

The black man has soul and groove, he has the music and the voice.

But the white devil wants to keep him down. Nothing worse to the white devil than a black man with a voice speaking out. They want to package the black man in boxes which they can control. Even hip-hop is an almost wholly controlled industry these days. There ain't no rebellion left in hip-hop, that side of hip-hop scares the man, so they shut it off, don't give it air time or exposure.

Lajon Witherspoon from Sevendust is black, and he's also one of the best vocalists out there.
Benji Webbe from Skindred.
Myke Terry, formerly of Bury Your Dead, currently of himself.
Howard Jones from KSE.
Derick Greene from Sepultura.
Jared Gomes from (hed) p.e.
Byron Davis from God Forbid

Those just some of the less obvious ones I could think of off the top of my head.

There are plenty of African American bands out there, personally i hate using skin colour as the descriptor when it comes to anything, let alone music. It is irrelevant, whether the band be White,Black, Asian or goddamn aliens, as long as they make great music who really cares?

And not all great Jazz musicians are of colour (its an unfair generalisation), there were alot of white jazz musicians around when the music began and still are today.

Came in to say Tosin Abasi from Animals As Leaders, but somebody beat me to it. So Victor Wooten and Greg Howe are what I submit.

Also, "wut" at black people are on a higher level in terms of groove and technique. I don't find the statement offensive, just amusingly foolish.
