Amateur Photographers of Giant Bomb, show us your favorite shots!
Oh, I've been trying to find one of these threads but never managed to get the time to make a search. Anyway, I'm not sure if I should be posting here! I'm a photographer and I do get payed for my work sometimes, so I guess that's an approval for being a photographer and that I might have made the move from being an amateur. Oh well, I just wanted to share some pictures with you.
I do mostly shoot people and cosplay, since I love working with other people and creating something. I do this by using my favorite camera, the Nikon D90, and a pretty standard low-budget 50mm/ƒ1.8. It is, honestly, all you need.
A piece of art I found left on the tracks at Auschwitz II Birkenau. The base is made from a piece of rubble from one of the demolished crematoriums, it's two adults holding a child's hand. This is near the back of the camp where the memorial is....way off in the distance you can see the entrance. The place is so large, it's about a 15 minute walk from one end to the other. Vast.
I don't know a way to digitizing film cheaply so the glut of my photos can't be shared online, but here are some neat pictures I took while in the mountains of New Mexico with some friends:
There's still some 700 more and I still haven't sorted through them all. Certainly not my best, but I think they're neat.

Dead Island is real!
Edit: Didn't notice the age of the thread. The zombies must have been contained. :/
Is there anything below an amateur? Because that is what I am. I'm necro-bumping this, show your amateur work! Went to the Taste of Chicago last week!

Incoming, some of my shitty insect photography
Hey these are really cool!
I have been getting into night time and wide angle astrophotography. I finally joined a local astronomy association so i can get access to some of their dark sites. Who would have know that being in the belly of one of America's largest urban centers would hinder your star gazing hobby? :P
Man GB adds some nasty compression to my photos.
A lot of these photos are great! I wanted to post some but getting emailed from my iPod to my laptop makes the pictures super huge and ugly.
Has anyone used the Canon 600D (T3i)? I would be upgrading from an old Canon point and shoot and this seems like it would fit my budget. I can get a 600D from amazon with a 18-135 mm lens for about $850. I also can also get a sigma 70-300 mm zoom lens for $290. Being new to dslrs, I'm not quite sure what lenses are essential and which are more niche. For example, is a macro lens necessary? Also, a Nikon D5100 is the direct competitor to the 600D so if anyone has experience with that it would help too.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
I am not a professional photographer; I don't own an SLR or DSLR camera. I have no formal photography training, and don't even know how to touch up images on a PC. Most of these photos were taken in 2010. Keeping that in mind, I'd like to see what you guys think of what I took regardless... bear with me here.
@Giantstalker: They may not be the best pictures ever, but they're extremely interesting!
I mean, just look at that top picture. It's a tank with two extra wheels on the front. Why? Because f*ck you, that's why.
And then the second shot, what a view! Few of us will ever see something like that. Really surreal.
The fourth with Batman has such a fun sense of humor about it; it's really nice.
The fifth picture is like modern military meets "The Ten Commandments".
Seven and eight clearly reveal vital military secrets.
And nine and ten are simply fun.
Thanks for sharing them! :)
@Giantstalker:
Not great. If you had looked at some Magnum Photos war photography beforehand, you may have took a more artistic approach, and used b/w.

I need to go through my recent shots and post something.
@Joker369 : The 600D is great, I recently upgraded from a 350D to it and I'm nothing but pleased. As for lenses, it all depends on your needs. For me, I started out with a basic 18-55mm kit lena and basically experimented until I felt myself hitting the limits of what I wanted. That's when you get a good idea what lenses you're really in the market for. When I upgraded I got myself a zoom as well as a 50mm 1.8 for those narrow focus pictures. And I'll probably go for a wide angle and dedicated macro as well further on. If I were you, I would skip on the 70-300 and just do the 18-135 first and go from there. By the way, check out dpreview.com. They have really indepth reviews and photo examples where you can make shot-by-shot comparisons between cameras. I use it every time I look at cameras. Hope that helps some!
