Anime discussion thread.

I've been burning through volumes of the manga but I haven't watched the anime to know how quickly they're going through the series. In any case, I really like what I've read from the manga so far; it's so vulgar and terrible in the best way possible.

GUYS DATE A LIVE IS REALLY BAD

There's two decades worth of Jojo manga to fill that hole.

I KNOW, BUT I CAN'T STOP WATCHING IT

Okay so I've finished the last volume I have right now of Aku no Hana (volume 4) and just ordered the next two volumes (unfortunately the sixth won't be out until July) but I can already safely say it's an amazing, soul-crushing manga. They really sell how twisted the characters are and I can actually almost sympathize with them in spite of how terrible they are. Every the terrible male protagonist is kind of a reasonable adolescent mess so I can't hate him that much even though I still hate his guts.

It actually also hit home for me since it kind of reminded me of some of my personal low points towards the end of my own adolescence and the nature of some of the relationships I've gotten into (not that I've done any of the worst things actually done in the series); the author writes in one of the afterword's of one of the last chapters of the first volume that he kind of wanted readers to stop and think twice about how they view sexuality -- particularly how they perceive perversion; I think the author definitely succeeded in that respect.

I need a palette cleanser, so I'm gonna read Railgun to help prep me for the new series and maybe I'll feel better about it. But man in spite of how bad I feel -- Aku no Hana is soooo good!

Yup, and I've read it all. Every soundless, colorless, motionless page. Reading it all again is not going to fill shit. The anime reignites my love of stuff from the old school. Time to embark out into more classic media that captures the best parts of the era.

Talking about bad romcoms, how come that the "guy" characters are the best girls recently? Last season it was Kaoru in Oreshura, and now it's Totsuka from Oregairu. What the hell?

I too am very very excited for Flowers of Evil. It definitely makes sense that the creator wants us to think more critically about sexuality. It's just really disappointing that so many people are completely missing the point.

@alexandersheen: I know man. I thought the trap character wasn't a popular thing to use any more and I'm pretty sure Totsuka is a boy unlike Kaoru, who may or may not be a girl that has a "little sister" named Kaori

WIT STUDIO's Kyoji Asano, the character designer and chief animation director of the on-going TV anime adaptation of Hajime Isayama's Attack on Titan manga, tweeted on April 22nd that his company was looking for animators who were interested in the production of the anime. He tweeted, "Is there any active animator who is interested in the Attack on Titan anime? If you are, please make contact with WIT STUDIO. Please lend us your strength, everyone. m(_ _)m　Any help would be appreciated."

It is very rare for Japanese anime studio to make this kind of job announcement for the on-going series to the public. Some fans speculate that the studio is suffering from a serious shortage of creators now. Considering its unique animation style, it's not much of a surprise. They are looking for experienced animators who can work as animation director, key animator, and in-between animator. Anyway, you would think that the studio should have enough animators to do a 2 season anime when they plan this.

Wait, of all the recent Shin Megami stuff they make an anime based on Devil Survivor 2? At least some of the guys who worked on the Persona 4 adaptation are working on it. I don't follow things as much as I use to but how did I miss this? Then again more adaptations of Shin Megami stuff is always good, especially by a proven team.

It's a sad day for all of us Medaka Box fans.Well, based on the previous chapter, can't say I'm surprised (could have sworn they explicitly stated this at the end anyway lol), but this still blows. Well, better to quit while you're ahead I guess. As much as I fucking love every ounce of this series, nothing worse than a manga (or any type of media for that matter) that doesn't know when to end.

As some of you may or may not know, people from Studio Wit have been Tweeting out that they seek animators to work on Attack on Titan. Of course this is pretty weird to do in the middle of a broadcast schedule and many people are worried that the production line broke somewhere. The French company that simulcasts Attack on Titan is apparently saying that everything is fine, and the reason for the animator search is that Wit has apparently gotten an increase in budget for later episodes so they now can hire more animators than initially planned.

Awesome if that turns out to be true, I guess?

Sounds like good news if they can keep up the quality of the animation. It wouldn't make sense to publicly ask for help if things were doing terrible in the animation department.

The main cast are Nobunaga Shimazaki, Tatsuhisa Suzuki, Tsubasa Yonaga, and Mamoru Miyano. I'm not really feeling most of that cast, but Miyano is basically male VA porn so I forgive them.

cant wait! monster is my favourite anime of all time! it's also pretty much the only anime that doesnt have the same stupid anime tropes and stereotypes, so it should be pretty easy to westernize.

as for what i've been watching recently: steins;gate is pretty good. however, there is a WHOLE LOT of anime bullshit to crawl through before the show actually gets good and interesting.

@blatantninja23: To be fair, I don't have a problem with trap (and reverse-trap) characters, in some cases I really like them, but it starts to become the new romcom cliche to me. The gentle, kind and unselfish girl turns out to be a boy (at first at least.) And I brought up Kaoru and Totsuka because on top of that, they look almost identical.

@blatantninja23: I dunno, I think it'd be harder to pull off in this case, since they're kind of required to be shirtless for swimming. I don't think any of them look particuarly reverse trap like. Do fujoshis like reverse trap characters anyway?

Attack on Pingu is one of my favourites. I like "You can't just slap SNK's OP onto everything!" as well.
