So I don't watch shows as they air. I prefer to wait until they are finished and watch the season in a short period of time. That being said I just finished watching GJ-Bu. Oh man that show was just so cute and lighthearted and amusing. If you enjoyed K-On or other shows like it give GJ-Bu a watch, I think you'll really like it. If you aren't into that stuff I don't think GJ-Bu does anything different that will change your opinion.

Next up I think I'm going to watch Senran Kagura. Yeah that's right I like to watch dumb fanservice shows.

Apparently now you can dress your baby up like certain JoJo's Bizarre Adventure characters. I gotta admit, some of the outfits look like they would be pretty adorable.

In the past few days I have read 30 volumes of Berserk and am almost done with 31. It's gonna be nerve-racking waiting for chapters after I catch up, isn't it? It's bad enough waiting a month between Titan and JoJolion's chapters.

Valvrave the Liberator: You know something is wrong with the writing when you're bored during the whole episode and when the surprise vampire rape scene kicked in you're still bored.

#6057 Posted by Wraith1 (600 posts) -

oh man Valvrave I wasn't expecting you to get all serious with a rape scene

#6058 Edited by Chibithor (584 posts) -

I didn't realize that this was coming out so soon. First 8 minutes of Ghost in the Shell: Arise, complete with English subtitles:

In other news, I think I'll be getting my first anime blu-ray soon, since they're releasing the first half of Steins;Gate in the UK with free shipping to Finland from Amazon. Should probably get Time of Eve from the Kickstarter as well while I'm at it.

Titan continues to be good even though holy crap that one part felt like it went on forever. Aiura continues to not have anything to do with crabs. I'm also getting into Valvrave because I heard such good things about it!

edit: Meanwhile in Titan episode 11:

Nothing happens.

Gantz is releasing its final chapter in a few days. Can't say I expect to be very satisfied with where this ending is going but I've enjoyed the shameless brutality of the series from start to finish. Attack On Titan anime is getting worse but only because the horror aspect of the show is taking a back seat to the shonen style story they're building up to. My friend agrees with me that if it turns out that there are more people capable of this transformation we're going to be very disappointed. I almost want to say I enjoyed the all-story in Metro Last Light more than this show even if the monster designs are a lot less inspired than that of the titans. The explanation for spontaneously growing organic mass better involve Pym Particles.

What would you guys say are the most notable animes of the last 2 years? I've seen Attack on Titan mentioned quite a bit, so I might check that out.

#6066 Edited by Chibithor (584 posts) -

@aegon: I haven't kept up that well but: Titan, Steins;Gate, Madoka and JoJo's are some that I've liked. Sword Art Online is notable I guess, but I've heard really divisive stuff about it and haven't seen it myself. For now Attack on Titan might be a good pick since people are talking about it, other than that my one personal recommendation is Steins;Gate, since I just really love that show.

So I got a "free" (more like for only $50) tablet with my shiny new mirrorless camera... it only took 3 exchanges to get one without massive dead pixel clusters.

Now I have a tablet i'm reading manga again. (Man things have gotten so much easier nowadays). I realized that I should read the new series by the guy who wrote Elfen Lied. Then I realized/ remembered most if not all good romance stuff tends to have nudity. Then I realized/ remembered most romance comedies happen to also be ecchi and a lot are borderline h. I've been spoiled by the fact that most anime isn't nearly as pervy as manga, some things never change.

Then I realized I can't read this stuff in public and that defeated the entire purpose of having a device to read manga on the go. At least with paperback it was harder to see what others are reading.

#6068 Edited by DocHaus (1531 posts) -

@aegon: I took a poll of the thread back in 2012 if that helps. Personally I'd vouch for the new Lupin 3rd, Tsuritama, Jormungand, Daily Lives of Highschool Boys and maybe Binbougami-ga!

In other news: I'm working on a capsule preview list for the upcoming summer 2013 season over at AV. Maybe I should cross-post it here so you don't have to go into dark territory to read it? Be warned it will be very subjective.

@bocam: Yeah his latest finished series (Kimi wa Midara na Boku no Joou) was pretty much porn. About as close to h as you can possibly get if not slightly crossing the line a bit. Art was nice though even if he didn't actually do it and only did the writing. Still for what it was (a completely average tsundere girl high school romance comedy with nothing new and new levels of h in a "not actually h" manga) it was well executed. Short but sweet 5 chapters that doesn't overstay it's welcome. This does make me wonder though, Elfen Lied wasn't that pervy right? or is it just rose colored glass' talking?

Either way his actual new main project Gokukoku no Brynhildr seems to be starting off strong.

EVA 3.0 came out sometime last year, right? Has anyone actually seen it? How batshit crazy does it get?

#6077 Edited by mao16 (111 posts) -

@extomar: Nudity has been normal since the late 90s and everyone remembers the gore. I meant like the masturbation, only very slightly censored blowjobs etc. *points at Kimi wa Midara na Boku no Joou*

I really need to remember manga is not anime (yet) and actually start checking maturity ratings and reading more detailed overviews before reading stuff. Well at least if I plan to do it in public. That or only read shounen stuff in public.

Hey fellas ...

So I need some anime advice. What to watch specifically. I don't normally watch anime on a regular basis, kind of like any TV show I just go on binges and like to watch the whole series at once. The last time I watched any anime was around '06 and went through everything that was in the local dvd rental place, which was mostly older stuff. It's been a while and I'm kinda feeling that itch again and want to watch a bunch what with the gaming summer drought and all.

Here is some of the shit I remember watching and liking at the time (i'm going off memory so the names might be way way wrong):

Hellsing think there was just one season, Samurai X up untill they kill the overheating dude, Gungrave, Berserk, Ghost in the Shell series and 2 movies, Cowboy Beebop, Appleseed, some stuff with some assassiny dudes and a burning ship with gold was cool but i'm totally blanking on the name

Stuff that I started watching but I don't know if they had later seasons or went anywhere: Seven Samurai (i think it was something with 7), Samurai Shamploo

Didn't like Evangelion if I recall.

There is also a bunch of stuff I'm forgetting or blanking on what it was called right now, but the stuff above was what stuck to memory. And maybe helps get the general idea of what I'm looking for i dunno (they mostly seem fairly actiony)? At the moment I wanted to get back into watching something but feel really lost, there is just so much new stuff out there I don't even know where to start. It would also be cool I guess to know if any of the one's above had any decent continuations and then to also see something in the same vein.

@tennmuerti: How about trying out Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. It is very good and also dark and grim

If you do make sure you are watching Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Brotherhood and not the bad first try at this series which is called Full Metal Alchemist.

#6085 Edited by EXTomar (5021 posts) -

The problem with Brotherhood is that they succumb to the temptation a lot of action shows fall into where the writers believe "complex = deep" which is and turns into nonsense. I do not believe the "darker" and more action plot helped much. Full Metal Alchemist had issues but the plot wasn't one of them.

#6086 Posted by DocHaus (1531 posts) -

@tennmuerti: Samurai Champloo only had 26 episodes (and a couple manga volumes, but good luck finding those now).

Here's a couple of recommendations from my list: Darker Than Black and Baccano! Give them a shot.

#6088 Posted by golguin (4347 posts) -

I thought people were exaggerating when they talked about Evangelion 3.0 and how it was kinda bad and very confusing. I saw the original series and I saw the old and new movies. I didn't know what was going on through most of the movie aside from Shinji continuing to be a bitch. I'm just glad everyone in the movie recognized his uselessness and how he keeps screwing things up for everyone else.

It almost makes me want to go back to Aku no Hana to watch the last few episodes and see the end of that train wreck, but that show doesn't have an Asuka to call out the bull shit.

That reminds me of this pair of comics:

The Escapist: Critical Miss 'Neon Gensis Evangalion', subtitle: "You Can (Not) Get Laid"

Which evidently got a reaction from some fans which prompted him to do a followup:

Evangeliowned, subtitle "You Can (Not) Handle These Cheap Shots"

That was a good stuff. I personally like this video, which I'm sure many have seen. I myself don't find any redeeming qualities in a character like Shinji or the male protagonist in Aku no Hana and I'm convinced it's some huge cultural disconnect with the youth of Japan. Even the lowest people in high school would have been alpha males compared to those two.

The last episode felt like it had quite a bit of filler because of what's going to happen in the next episode. It was the only episode where I kept thinking "cmon, go do it already." Every other episode has been excellent.

I hate it when anime goes dragonball z and stretches out something it shouldn't. Last week's episode has been the most egregious offender with this so far. I can't wait to see the repercussions of what was set up with Eren.

Episode 85 of Hunter x Hunter is one of those series defining episodes/moments. Madhouse completely pulled off the scenes that people seemed to be dreading the most. Not ashamed to admit I was a nervous wreck during this episode even knowing everything that was gonna happen. This makes up for all the mistakes MH has made, especially during those somewhat rocky first 20 episodes.

I only saw about 60% of Titan 12 live on keyhole, but I haven't bothered watching it subbed yet. Now I'm not sure I want to because MH has set the shounen bar so high this week.

I think the problem here is that they wanted so many episode to get to a certain point and now they have trouble to get there not too early. As for HunterXHunter. I never liked this arc in the Manga but the Anime does a good job here. I am enjoying it much more than in the Manga.
