@alexandersheen: Nice summarize. That show will be a real banger. Still not sure If I will even try and watch it. Seems like the most sibling love since Kissxsis

And how could you bring up OreImo again... such bad memories.

It's basically soft core porn. No plot has been established, the characters are boring but it sure had ecchi in it and a Kuroneko lookalike. So if this sounds compelling to you, go for it, otherwise, I don't recommend watching it.

Also don't forget, I'm the victim of OreImo too. The first season was great though.

Started a Yu Yu Hakusho marathon this weekend. One of the very few hardcore shounen jump series that still holds up today. Think its probably cause it wasn't bogged down by the constant filler episodes studios and tv companies usually pull off for these series.

OK, don't tell anyone but... I thought the first season of OreImo was A OK in my book. Thats why the second season hurts so much.

I know right?! Before the second season I thought it's gonna be awesome, more of the first season. It turns out the first season was the odd one and the second was true to the light novels. Bummer.

Holy shit Space Dandy was a trip. It's like Johnny Bravo in space mixed with a bit of Inferno Cop and then everyone died. OR DID THEY?

Your watching the English language one right? I'm still not sure which one I want to watch.

Actually, since the Japanese language one is not being simulcast, guess I will watch the English one. Guess I need to turn in my TV

#858 Posted by Bocam (3988 posts) -

@alexandersheen: Hate to tell you this but Oreimo has always been about incest. The first season just hides it better. ImoCho on the other hand becomes parody.

Funimation might simulcast the japanese version but with a three week delay.

And my Seitokai Yakuindomo marathon goes on. Currently I am on Ova 3 and my head hurts from all these sex puns. But surprisingly I really like this show. It is so light hearted^^

#860 Posted by AlexanderSheen (5148 posts) -

@bocam: Even so, because incest is not apparent and one of the main themes is acceptance (Kirino coming to terms with her being an otaku and opening up to her friends and family with the help of Kousaka) and the other being family (Kousaka trying to improve his relationship with Kirino in a not romantic way), I would still consider the first season the odd one out and overall better.

And about ImoCho, so far it didn't gave any sing it being a comedy or anything decent. I will watch some more of it to be sure but so far I'm not impressed.

#861 Edited by ILikePopCans (825 posts) -

@darji: YEAH YEAH YEAH

Really don't like how they move between seasons all the time in the OVA's. But Uomi

is first debuted in the OVA's so all is forgiven.

Hulu has the Japanese version already. They usually just have what Funimation has, but I haven't checked their own site for it.

Edit: Having just watched both, I think I like the subtitled version better. The Japanese voice actors sound better to me, especially Dandy.

Nobunaga the Fool is some kind of weird, hot mess. You go in expecting yet another alternative history for Nobunaga with a twist, but then you also get:

  • Jeanne d'Arc
  • Leonardo da Vinci
  • King Arthur
  • Magellan
  • space travel
  • GIANT MECHS!!

Hataraku Maou Sama was a fantastic Anime and one of my favorites in 2013. If you have not watched it yet you really should.

It's great. My top anime of this year. Watch it.

I'll throw another vote behind Hataraku Maou Sama (The Devil is a Part Timer). Absolutely fantastic show. If you think it sounds amazing, wait until you start watching it and find out that what should be a one-note one-joke show actually turns into one of the best of 2013.

Gintama Movie 2: Man this was a fucking epic Movie. Great jokes, great emotions, great Music and great battle scenes. That movie delivered everything I love about Gintama^^

Also Hunter X Hunter this week was fantastic as well. This flashback was bad ass.

#867 Posted by AlexanderSheen (5148 posts) -

I would like to virtually kiss everyone on the mouth for talking about Seitokai Yakuindomo. In some ways it reminded me of Lucky Star and the nature of the jokes felt refreshing. So, if you like dirty jokes (=/= fanservice) and you like manzai style comedy then this is for you.

But enough off topic I guess even through you could theoretically see this as cartoon^^

Anyway: Just watched Tonari no Seki-kun which is about a girl getting obsessed with a boy sitting next to her in class always doing some stuff. Episode was only 7 minutes but given the short manga chapters that's ok I guess. But it is still incredible XD

#871 Edited by BabyChooChoo (5264 posts) -

Boy, this season isn't looking so hot for me personally. Space Dandy is freakin awesome and I went ahead and read the manga for Witch Craft Works after episode 1 and I'll stick with that show too. It's not exactly anything we haven't seen before, but I expected it to just another random harem for some stupid, contrived reason and thankfully, it isn't. The main chick and his sister are, of course, obsessed with him, but that's about it. Hell, it barely deserves the ecchi tag too. It has some of those moments, but it's pretty much just a supernatural, action-adventure comedy...thing with the occasional romantic moment.

So, so far, it looks like I'll be dipping into my back catalog and or pick up some other new manga to pass the time. Only problem is I don't have a back catalog and I don't know what manga to read...so...there's that I guess lol

#872 Posted by ILikePopCans (825 posts) -

Well, the first week of the winter 2014 season is now over. Anyone have any thoughts?

I actually watch quite a few shows I enjoyed; nothing I loved yet. If I'm not counting season 2 shows (sorry Seitokai Yakuindomo, Sliver Spoon) or shows continuing from last season (Ace of the Diamond, Strike the Blood, Yowamushi Pedal, Nagi no Asukara, [not] Samurai Flamenco), I would say the ones I enjoyed most are

  • Mikakunin de Shinkoukei: Cute little slice-of-life with good characters. Only complaint is my Western culture and the weirdness of arranged marriages to me.
  • D-Frag!: Cute little Romantic comedy. Not enough from the characters outside of the main 2 for me to know if I will liked them but I enjoy it so far.
  • Tonari no Seki-kun: Nice little short. Something I will enjoy every week.
  • Sakura Trick: Yo dog you like Yuri. I SAID YO DOG YOU LIKE YURI?

Pretty much all slice of life stuff. Not to surprising cause the action stuff don't get me until a few episodes in. Probably cause they have to start out slower compared to comedy stuff.

What did everyone else liked?

#873 Edited by Darji (5412 posts) -

@ilikepopcans: From the new stuff not that much. I enjoy Tonari no Seki-kun as well since it is pretty short. I don't want to try out pupa because it is not only disgusting but also very short. And U have watched the first episode of Nisekoi which I really did not enjoy because of A the presentation adn B. I can help but feel a Jdrama would actually been better for this^^

Luckily I have still a lot of current shows I enjoy each week.

#874 Posted by AlexanderSheen (5148 posts) -

So far the only new thing I watched is Hamatora. Not bad so far. It's about power users who work for a private investigation office, has an odd jobs wibe. Their powers are similar to the ones in Darker Than Black. The difference here is that they have to make certain conditions met before they can use their power instead of paying the price later. In a way it reminds me of K (maybe because of the music or the general atmosphere? Not sure.) I want to watch more of it.

#875 Posted by AlexanderSheen (5148 posts) -

The first thing I want to do is getting rid of the back catalog I have amassed before getting deep into the Winter Season and this time it was Samurai Flamenco's turn. This is how it went:

Episode 9 - Alright, here's some of that straight man commentary from the first half! I mean, even the characters are acknowledging how boring and repetitive this genuine sentai crap is and admitting that no one cares about it. And they talk about the final battle, so that's promising. They surely don't want to stretch this arc out even more, right?

Episode 10 - The last scene of episode 9 and the first half of this episode were the most entertaining parts in this entire arc. The sudden change in tone, the psychological and physical torture would have worked way better in the original setting though because non of that required the change to real sentai and they could have avoided the disappointing of a big chunk of their viewers. Now that this is over, they not gonna follow it up with another arc like this, are they? This was just a dream sequence of some kind, right?

Episode 11 - I hoped this show will be the sentai version of Kick-Ass. For me, that was the whole reason why I started watching it in the first place. But then it spitted into my face and said: "Joke's on you, bumbass." Well fuck you too! I'm so done with this.

#876 Edited by golguin (4530 posts) -

I haven't watched anything new yet. I'm still just watching the stuff that's continued from last season. I haven't read or seen any previews that would make me watch the new shows this season.

#877 Edited by TheManWithNoPlan (6288 posts) -

Slowly but surely I've tried to start actually watching shows again now that I've got some time. I've been trying to catch up on stuff like Kill La Kill and Valrave. Both have some pretty cool action sequences and that's enough to keep me satisfied.

I've been watching The Devil is a part Timer and I really like it so far. It's not at all what I originally thought it would be. Actually, I somehow got this and Samurai Flamenco mixed up a while back and completely passed it over due to ignorance. Thanks for the recommendation duders!

So anyone know what's up with that cannibal anime Pupa? When I first heard about it I though it was going to be some straight to DVD crazy stuff, but Crunchyroll has it so I guess it's legit.

#879 Edited by BabyChooChoo (5264 posts) -

Alright, Sekai Seifuku: Bouryaku no Zvezda, you had my curiosity. Now you have my attention. Sadly, the MC isn't terribly interesting, but everything else going on makes up for it enough to turn around and make it enjoyable.

#880 Posted by Sergio (2567 posts) -

I've watched most things. It's too early for me to write-off the majority that I watched, but I can say that I didn't like that Super Sonico anime. Strange+ and Hozuki no Reitetsu will get another week from me. Everything else I enjoyed to some degree, but no stand-out favorite amongst the new series yet.

I want to know watch it, but it is a horror show that is a short, so it is only like 5 min long. Reading about it confirms that the show just don't work in the format that it is in.

Found this while watching "The Devil is a part timer" and got a big smile on my face.

One of the characters was looking at this on a pseudo Amazon.

The show is littered with alternate names of real world brands, but I thought this was a particularly cool reference. Thought I would share given the souls games have a somewhat significant presence on the site.

I don't know anything about that show, but that show title reminds me of "I Couldn’t Become a Hero, So I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job." If you like references to games and anime you'll dig "Outbreak Company."

And Samurai Flamenco got serious again. It is a interesting situation. Who to save, when to keep quiet to avoid a mass panic, how should a hero handle political situations? This Series just passed half time and the name of the next Episode is "The destruction of Japan" I do not know where this will end. That is why I like this show.

Okay I need help Identifying an anime I lost track of.

It's about this painter dude I guess that paints up a family then he paints up a parallel world to keep all his creations in. His three artificial kids grow up and become leaders of the new world. The oldest son I think grows up to look exactly like his father once he left for some reason. He's the one going through emotional distress over his meaningless existence.

Some loli unsurprisingly enters the world later on and I think the anime is about her......
