That's what we call a Linux error!

Welcome to real computing!

I dunno why Ubuntu would kill your sound. Never had that problem. Try wiping the partition and reinstalling.

I dual boot on my desktop with windows xp and ubuntu..

As for having no sound... maybe you need to update drivers for your sound card.. thats the first thing i would check.

I dual boot it on my second least used laptop with Vista HP. My desktop is for XP and this laptop is the Jack-Of-All-Trades with only Vista HP.

Find your sound card, search for appropriate Ubuntu drivers, install?

If you've got a popular brand of sound card, there should be some 3rd party open source drivers designed to work with ubuntu.

Go to java.freenode.net

Type in your name, and join the channel "ubuntu"

They will help you.

I dual boot Ubuntu & XP.  Ubuntu is for everyday stuff and XP is for gaming.
I'd be surprised if Ubuntu Forums can't help as they've always been very helpful if I ever needed anything

That's stupid, imo. It's just cool to hate Vista, nowadays. It's really a great operating system.

Microsoft surveyed people about Vista. Those who said that it was bad were invited to try out a new operating system they were developing. They said that operating system was awesome. Microsoft then told them that it was Vista.

Yeah, I don't see what's wrong with vista. Both my laptops have vista and neither have any problems. Not to mention that it looks friggin awesome. Compatibility isn't a problem since i upgrade my programs constantly and I'm happy as long as i can play Starcraft and Rise of Nations, which i can.

If you haven't already, go to System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers in ubuntu. You may have to approve the driver (for non-free drivers) in order for it to be installed. If this is not it, find out what your sound card is then go to System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager and search for your brand of sound card, the appropriate driver should be populated in the list. Also, make sure you're not on mute or anything (maybe obvious, but sometimes that's the solution)
