Anyone still using Vista for gaming?
I upgraded my PC a few weeks ago (I made a thread about it back then) and a few days ago I upgraded from XP Home Edition to Vista Home Premium X64.
I tried both Vista and 7, but because I had a single core cpu I prefered to keep XP so I get as much as I can out of it when I play games.I remember Vista running pretty slow on that older setup, and when I tried 7 it was a huge diference (like seriously, I was surprised how much faster it runs on single core CPUs) but XP was still faster so I stuck with it.
Now however I bought a copy of Vista because it was way cheaper than 7 (or else I would have bought 7). The copies of vista and 7 that I tested on my old setup a few years back were borrowed and I didnt have the license so I couldn't use those (and I also like to own my shit).
Anyway, I noticed that Vista with SP2 runs damn well on my new setup, and Sleeping Dogs runs awesomely at 1680X1050 (not maxed out,but close).
Obviously I didnt compare to 7 on the same setup,so I dont know if its slower with Vista, but I was wondering if any of you use Vista nowadays for
gaming, of if you all have Win 7.
I had no issues with Vista and never understood what people's qualms are with it. The real issue with Vista crashing and blue screening was related to NVIDIA drivers which they have corrected. Also it was because manufacturers didn't make proper 64-bit drivers. Windows 7 is still Vista (version 6 of Windows) it's just that they cleaned a few things up and slapped a cleaner looking Taskbar into it. One of my laptops still runs Vista doesn't have any issues. I think it was just because it was a dramatic change from Windows XP that people didn't like. People hated XP too when it first came out. Pretty sure most of the hatred was just people hopping on the Vista Hate Bandwagon.
Windows 7 in its current form would have suffered the same fate as Vista if it had come out first because all the real issues were related to third party drivers.
The only real problem I had with vista is that it takes up more RAM then it should and the UAC is a little to frequent. If you have 8GB of RAM then Vista is great.

Was that down to the horrible blue menu UI.
I changed mine to the standard greyish menu system = better performance.
Hell yeah bro, I got Halo 2 on my laptop for college. Hit me up on XFire: xXxGrAnDaDaPurrpx420xXxLaLaLa

Unfortunately, yes.
What the hell are you doing?
It must suck to have to switch between your Rumble Pak and Memory Card whenever you save.

i still use xp. i need a new computer so i didn't see a reason to get vista or 7.
Me too. Xp works fine on my old machine for a lot of games, but when I invest in a new PC, then I'll make the jump to 7. I'm holding off on 8. Never buy a new Microsoft OS in the first 6 months of release.
Been using 7.
No way in hell I'll ever go back.
For the record, the only real problem I've had with Windows Vista is that it seems a bit slower than 7 on the same machine. Otherwise, I never actually had a real issue with the OS itself. 7, though, feels so much better all around. It's responsive, it's smooth, it's quick, it's easier to use, it's more intuitive, etc.
I definitely could have stuck with Vista longer, but it was just convenient when I was reformatting my harddrive to update to W7 anyway.
I definitely liked the look of the start menu/task bar a lot more in Vista though.
Oh, and I'll definitely be sticking with W7 for years to come. Windows 8 is not for me.
I still use Vista but I only use my PC for Civilization and Indie Games. Seems to work pretty terribly. My computer is from 2006 though so that's most likely the real problem.

Windows 7 is great. Vista was not. I have no idea what Vista is like now?
With the latest service packs, they are pretty much identical except for the desktop gadgets. Performance wise I notice no differences at all, and there is no noticeable difference in software compatibility either, if you don't count the fact that Win 7 Pro and Ultimate include a virtual copy of XP, making it possible to run 16 bit software, which neither Vista nor 7 does otherwise.
Windows 7 all the way!.After 2+ years of windows vista i had enough, and bought win 7.Never looked back since.
vista is bad and microsoft should feel bad
windows 7 is less bad pretty good actually but still
I jumped straight from XP to Windows 7. I was always read about performance issues with Vista, so I never got it.
