I live with my parents and they have cable, but once I move out I'm not sure if I would subscribe. Almost all of the content I'd ever want to watch is available on the internet legally for free or for a very low price. The only thing I'm concerned about is football, but I could always get Sunday Ticket on my PS3.

Do you guys subscribe to cable?

I used to split the entire cable bill with my parents, home phone, internet, TV etc, but now I only pay for half of the internet cost as I never watch TV by cable, I haven't sat down to watch a television show on cable in more than a year. I primarily watch stuff on Youtube or through iTunes and PSN but soon I am going to pay for a Netflix streaming plan, it's very cheap at $7.99 a month, by myself and allow everyone in the house to use it if they desire.

There are only maybe a handful of shows that I watch that are even currently running. So no, I find that it's easier for me to watch online or grab a torrent of the newest episode. I will go out and buy the boxed set dvd's of shows that I feel deserve the money, but I don't want to waste so much money on a monthly cable bill when I won't be using it more than maybe 2-3 hours a week.

yes, i have cable. the cable has been crappy. in august we got these new small boxes for the cable. for some reason comcast said they updated to boxes. we used them for a couple of weeks and then problem started. it didn't get fixed. now the regular cable doesn't work, i don't have a couple of channels.

for some reason my brother doesn't have internet or cable. i guess we watches stuff at other people's houses and netflix mail service.

Yeah, but really it's because of room mates who have shows they actually watch.

But we have FiOS so the price isn't too bad and the internet is good which is all that's important.

This. The first year wasn't too bad, but the second year the price jumped up to a bit over $100 per month since all the bonuses and credits expired. Still better than Dish Network or Comcast, though.

If all you plan to watch it football, why not just go with a free-over-the-airwaves antenna? You should be able to watch FOX, CBS and NBC's games that way. Monday Night Football and the forthcoming Thursday night games will be out, though.

Are you a football fan?

If you're stuck in a city with a team you don't care about that significantly cuts your chances to watch amazing games happening around the league.

If I didn't have FiOS in my neighborhood I'd definitely jump on DirecTV's NFL sunday ticket offer.

Same as OP. Parents have it but it seems like a waste for anything beyond sports if you're outside of EST.

Three-years cable free, here. Haven't missed anything. I manage to get most of the shows I want to see off Hulu and other digital services for less than a quarter what I was paying for cable. Now, granted, I don't watch sports. That makes things difficult for some. But I haven't missed it at all. And I spend less time watching shit that just happens to be on, and am a bit more thoughtful about what I watch. When I sit down to watch something, it's because I want to.

It's certainly not for everyone. It depends a lot on what you want to watch. But in general I'd say that the internet provides so much that I'd definitely recommend trying to go without cable to see if it's a good fit. Cable is too expensive for what it offers. I doubt I'll ever subscribe to it again.

I cancelled mine about a year ago.

The only thing I miss is hockey, but I'm not in the right region to get most of the games I want to watch anyways, and I still get Saturday night games on CBC.
