I certainly try to be as transparent and honest as possible and not adopt any sort of "persona" online. I just don't think there's anything to be gained by trying to juggle multiple personalities or trying to anonymously be a dick to other people on the internet. Because even if you try to justify it to yourself by saying that that the asshole you're being on the internet isn't the real you, the truth is that on some level that monster really is living inside of you. If you act like a horrible person on the internet, you really are a horrible person, and eventually someone is going to find out how you spend your online time and call you out on it.
I know that a lot of people probably don't buy into some of Gary Vaynerchuk's motivational / marketing mumbo jumbo (I'll admit to rolling my eyes at it from time to time) and many of you probably don't even know who he is, but I agree with this to a large degree:
Maybe it's just crazy misguided optimism, but I tend to think that being nice and helpful to other people can pay dividends in the long run.
