Quake is up, one of the OGs of speedrunning.
Btw, anyone know why Twitch just displays a blank image for many of these games when they use the GB API? They're all in the database.
Anyone who missed the Duke 3D run should go back and watch it. That game is so broken and its amazing.
Where would one go to watch the reruns?
@beachthunder: This post on Reddit is getting actively updated with links to Twitch highlights -

@amyggen: A numbered limited edition Tychus Findlay statue.
They really need someone to monitor their sound levels. They've been doing half ass soundcheck right at the beginning of the runs and then it's like no one is paying attention to the sound at all thereafter. This RE4 run is unwatchable. I can't hear the commentary and game audio so loud is blowing out my ears. :(
edit--- someone just donated to get a message to them about the audio, it was read on stream, and they still didn't fix it. :(
I remember chat being pretty horrible for sgdq but they're definitely outdoing themselves this year.
Yeah the twitch chat is no place for actual discussion. If you go to http://gamesdonequick.com/ there's an IRC server you can connect to that is as tame as any GB chat. You can also use any IRC client to connect to it, it's irc.quakenet.org #sdamarathon. You might need to register in order to talk in the marathon chat. To register you can type /msg Q Hello email@address email@address.
I'm looking forward to Kabuki Quantum Fighter, a NES game that got me into speedrunning. I didn't even know anyone else ran that game so it was a surprise to see it on the schedule.

That's what you get with that many people watching. I never watch the chat for events like these, too much bullshit.

Pretty amazing how far people fall to vie for attention when presented with such a large crowd. Way to reinforce every terrible, tired stereotype of gamers.
The flipside of that though, it is nice to see that many people tuning in to watch. This is my first AGDQ, but it's crazy to see them get roughly twice as many viewers as they ever got for SGDQ (I could be remembering it that wrong, but I didn't remember them getting more than 50k last summer, and it almost hit 100k today).

Fortunately, if you go to www.explosiveruns.com, you can get to chat with a few of us Giant Bomb folks throughout the marathon. We're tame and nice!
And only @fattony12000 bites. :D
@truthtellah: meow
Ive only really had it on in the background while they're doing Rising. There are problem some impressive bits during the run but its a hard one to tell whats going on considering how fast the game moves anyway lol
@truthtellah: I tried to get into the chat, but I haven't logged into IRC in about 15 years or so, and I just couldn't get in :(
edit: I need to watch Rising when I get home, if they ran that. I'm sure that game will make for amazing speedruns with just skillful play.
Games Done Quick website down for anyone else?
Yes, it's down for me aswell.
Games Done Quick website down for anyone else?
I just tried to go to their schedule page and got a 502 (bad gateway) error.
Down for me too, atleast their Twitch page http://www.twitch.tv/speeddemosarchivesda is working.
Mario Lost Levels up now. Andrewg will be running Super Mario Bros. warpless category coming up in about 20 minutes. DO NOT MISS. Andrewg is speedrunner masterclass. He has all of the world records for Mario 1 and keeps refining. The any% (warps) category is so optimized at this point that Andrew is trying to cut frames off his best time.
Here's a mirror of the schedule. This one has been up the whole time, no troubles. SDA AGDQ 2014 schedule.
@happenstance: Sweet, he donated a lot last year too.
I love me some Link's Awakening.
The glitch runs are hilarious.
Edit: seems like the crazy glitches are only in the original version...
Wow, the Charles Barkley Shut Up and Jam! Gaiden is not to be missed. It made me laugh and cry.
Seriously. Just watch it.
Yo. They kissed.
Best Run Ever
Well fuck me this is what I get for sleeping.
This was the cherry on top of it all.

If you can believe it, there is so much more that needs to be seen in that run.
It's... just about everything AGDQ.
@truthtellah: Adding that one to my list of things to go back for.
It's already happening. i saw chrono trigger as the last game, and i thought NO WAY should the big bot not be named after the big man. RyanD for Robo, donate, help charity, watch some awesome runs, and remember Ryan Davis, who is still missed...
http://gamesdonequick.com/tracker/bid/1245
edit: this is in relation to bidding to name a character after Ryan. Last year the dark souls speedrun name was Ryan Davis.
@grantheaslip: Yeah, most N64 games they run are so broken compared to other games. You should check out the under 30 minutes run of Zelda OoT from last year's AGDQ for maybe the best example of that.
@potoskull: This specific event is taking place in Washington DC. I think other GDQ events have taken place elsewhere.
This Mario Kart 64 run is great.

Summer Games Done Quick was in Colorado last year. It might be in Colorado every year, but I'm not sure.
I know were not even done with AGDQ yet but make room in July kiddies! European Speedster Assembly is coming!

The whole "looking at the ground to prevent slowdown" aspect is really awesome/terrible as well (watch a Goldeneye 007 run for a really obvious example). During the DK64 run, a bunch of strategies involved (as I understand it) shooting the coconut gun to intentionally induce lag, which the game tries to make up for by increasing the character movement speed to comical degrees, which obviously opens up a lot of doors.
Yeah, games on the N64 seemed to have pretty terrible framerate in general, really. I think Zelda OoT runs at 20 FPS or something.
