Bands that are popular, but belong to a genre that you just don't see much of.

Bands now typically fall into one of several sounds, some however, reach outside of that and are mainstream music

I too have no idea how Nirvana became popular. I know Teen Spirit is moderately catchy but... ewww.

Nevermind was overrated, I liked In Utero quite a bit more.

Still, Linkin Park and Korn are quite popular (I hate them). Same goes for Limp Bizkit, what the Hell, really?

and you're ignorant. it single-handedly took the music scene of its time by storm and destroyed hair metal forever. sure, there were bands before Nirvana that tried to achieve the same thing, but Nirvana did it. it may be over played now but to call it "not catchy" is fucking wrong. it has one of the most monstrous choruses ever.

System of a Down? They're metal, for christ's sake. They just happen to be talented songwriters most of the time as well.

I'd say the biggest one is Primus. I love what they play, but when I think of the fact that they have radio play every once in a while, my jaw drops.

They were one of the pioneers of Grunge. Them going mainstream basically invented the genre.

That's not even the point of the thread. It's not whether you like the band or not.

I loled at the irony. A user telling a mod how to post.
