I know it may be a little to early for this, but I don't really see any other good albums coming out that please my musical cravings so what the heck.

In your opinion of course, what is/going to be the best album of 2008?

I personally was impressed by Indestructible by Disturbed, although Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace by The Offspring is a close second

Jakob Dylan-Seeing things.

Well if Metallica releases their new album this year, then that will be the best album of 2008.

#4 Posted by Reynolds (78 posts) -

Disturbed very well might be the worst band I've ever heard.

Mine (so far) would either be Learn the Hard Way by the Copyrights or Gender Studies by Team Stray.

The Black Keys - Attack and Release
Beck - Modern Guilt.

Off the top of my head.

I don't know, I have a bad feeling about it. Judging from St Anger which was terrible, but who knows.

Opeth - Watershed

#10 Posted by RabbitKarrot (362 posts) -

So far it is either -

Conor Oberst - Self Titled
Beck - Modern Guilt
Hot Chip - Made in the dark

Rock: Panic at the Disco - Pretty. Odd.
Pop: Madonna - Hard Candy
Rap: Lil Wayne - The Carter III
Country: I'm not sure yet....
Folk: She and Him - Volume 1

#12 Posted by FaintDeftone (81 posts) -

I have yet to hear an album this year better than Death Cab for Cutie's Narrow Stairs. Coldplay's Viva La Vida comes close.

#13 Posted by Jaconius (145 posts) -

Panic at the Disco is not Rock IMO. It's a mixture of Pop and crap.

#14 Posted by semicolon1twlev2 (894 posts) -
Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends - Coldplay

My pick.

Judging by their latest publicly available album, you sir, are very incorrect.
I'm going to have to go with Mercenary - Architect of Lies

The Black Swan- Story of the year

Absolutely love everything about this album, although i'll have to see how the new Rise Against album turns out in October before  I call anything.
#18 Posted by METALM1LITIA91 (259 posts) -

Metallica's album sounds great from what I've heard. Most people hate metallica so I won't even get into that debate. I will say however, St. Anger was very rough but they have a new producer Rick Ruban and are going more traditional so it should be an old school record.

Anyway heres how I break down 08

Best so far: Formation of Damnation: Testament

Best to come: Death Magnetic - Metallica
All Hope Is Gone: Slipknot

most people anymore don't know good music if it jumped up and bit em' in the ass tho.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!

#20 Posted by Frostmane (56 posts) -

My favourite so far may be Red, Yellow, and Blue by Born Ruffians. Though I will admit I also really dig the self titled debut by Hercules and Love Affair.

#21 Posted by FleaFive (20 posts) -

The Arm by the Islands.

#22 Posted by DoctorTran (1546 posts) -

Both of the Nine Inch Nails albums that were released.

#23 Posted by The_Shame (14 posts) -

So far its between:

Portishead - Third
Fuck Buttons - Street Horrsing
Pyramids - Pyramids
Youthmovies - Good Nature
M83 - Saturdays = Youth
Errors - It's Not Something But It Is Like Whatever

And im forgetting some others, quite a good year so far.

Narrow Stairs was quite awesome, but I just don't think it can beat out Viva la Vida.

Not sure yet it is only July after all though the new Futureheads album is a contender - that could all change with the new Bloc Party album.

Opeth - Watershed

Everybody, go listen to it now!

#27 Posted by Karmum (11517 posts) -

so far my favorite has been Disturbed's Indestructible, but there's still new Slipknot, Metallica, Guns N' Roses + more to look forward to.

And I haven't listened to Opeth's Watershed yet.

Nas - Untitled
Gnarls Barkley - The Odd Couple
Erykah Badu - New Amerykah Part One

Yeah, pretty slow year for Hip Hop. Last year was much better.

#46 Posted by ParanoidFreak (1461 posts) -

This year has been pretty bad for music so far, so I'd pick "Viva la Vida - Coldplay" even though the album didn't blow me away.

True, but this decade hasn't been great for music so far.
