Suffered from some growing pains today, so decided to skip the rowing and insanity workout for the day. Instead ended up watching a Bond review that's on: 1983's Never Say Never Again. This is pretty dated, really. I seem to like the newer movies better, especially those with Pierce Brosnan. Any thoughts?
Best Bond movie?
I love all James films. But I'm keen on From Russia With Love, and Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace because they are more like the Ian Fleming vision of the character.
Never Say Never Again isn't an official Bond movie, and a remake of Thunderball, iirc.
I primarily like the Connery, Brosnan, and now Craig movies, my least favorites are the Moore films. I'm just not a huge fan of the humor they forced into those. My top five would probably be: From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, You Only Live Twice, GoldenEye, and Casino Royal.
You only live twice, Goldeneye, the spy who loved me and The Living Daylights (yes, really) have always been the ones I have enjoyed the most.
Goldeneye is hands down my all-time favourite Bond movie and Sean Connery is THE Bond followed by Pierce Brosnan.
I was never really into the older movies, so I'm not sure how the more serious fans feel about it.. But Casino Royale was a stupidly good movie. Quantum of Solace suffered solely for being a sequel to a movie it couldn't possible live up to.
I also really liked Goldeneye and Sean Connery was always entertaining.
" I'm not a huge fan of the old ones and when I was a kid Pierce Brosnan was Bond. So, my favorites are actually GoldenEye and Casino Royale. "GoldenEye has aged rather badly. I watched it in 2010 and it felt a little dated. The later Bond outings from Brosnan aren't bad though. I actually really enjoyed Quantum of Solace. It made Bond feel more human... and Olga Kurylenko was the ultimate Bond girl. Casino Royale was decent but the scene where they're playing poker bored me to tears.
" I think you're on the wrong site... may i direct you to Screened? "Nah...these boards have grown into more than game talk. While that is the primary topic, it is also home to geek culture speak period, and even the scatter personal blog for words from like minded folks.
Classic movie Bond would be the Connery ones I guess. But I think Casino Royale did the character the best, focusing on the brutal side of Bond and his dark world of secret killings.
" I'll propably get hanged for this but I really liked Casino Royale. "Yeah, that's the one I don't ever feel I have to qualify when I say it's good. Older ones get too cheesy, later ones get too stupid. Not that I don't like Connery, of course, but still.
I never liked the older Bond films so Casino Royale is my Bond movie-of-choice by default." @imsh_pl said:

From Russia With Love is hands down the best Bond movie ever.
I also love The Living Daylights, Thunderball, Casino Royale, Goldfinger, and For Your Eyes Only.
You Only Live Twice is an old favorite of mine. Bond dying, going to Japan, crazy helicopter gadgets, volcano lair, Blofeld showing his face... just constant fucking madness, and pretty much the source of every cheesy spy movie trope.
From Russia With Love is another favorite as well. This is a good one to show Bond's more serious side.
In terms of Bonds I've liked, you just can't beat Sean Connery, he IS Bond. Brosnan was a great Bond through, my second favorite. I hated Roger Moore and Lazenby, Dalton was okay, and Craig's a fine Bond, but his movies are shit.
" @GeekDown said:Well the Visual Effects of GoldenEye have certainly not aged well. Though I doubt they looked good even when they were new. Did people in the 90's think Earth was a Blue Pulsating Nucleus?" I'm not a huge fan of the old ones and when I was a kid Pierce Brosnan was Bond. Goldeneye was my favorite until Casino Royale came along. I thought that movie was brilliant in the reconstruction of Bond as a character and more importantly, as a human being that is fallable and has flaws. Made him more relatable and as a result, made the plot and overall feel of the movie was superb. It still had the Bond girls and the fancy cars and sweet vacation spots, it hadn't lost touch with what makes Bond, Bond. Casino Royale just made Bond more believable. Great film
But its not a good Bond film. Its a good Bourne film. Its a good film for people who don't like anything about James Bond." @imsh_pl said:

Anyhow I have a special place in my heart for Goldeneye, even though Brosnan later went on to be in the worst Bond films after that. There were just so many characters.
" @xMP44x said:It had a ludicrously tiny budget so it's not surprising. It's also probably the best one. It had a ludicrously tiny budget so it's not surprising. It's also probably the best one. Anyone who says Casino Royale or Quantum of Solace really have no clue.In that case then I suppose it's a marvel that GoldenEye was a good film at all. I personally liked Quantum of Solace. It made the character of Bond more believable, as he felt more like a real character than a delivery device for the action. The story was interesting enough, I suppose, but I liked the change it made from previous Bond movies. While I do enjoy explosions and other such action, a franchise as well known as the Bond films needs to be more than just that. I liked the shift in styles, but I enjoyed basically all of the Bond movies I've seen.
Are you kidding? Seriously?
Everyone knows the best Bond movies is On Her Majesty's Secret Service. George Lazenby is awesome as bond.
That or a view to a kill. Roger Moore and Christopher Walken. Grace Jones for christ sake! This includes one of the better bond theme songs.
" I'll propably get hanged for this but I really liked Casino Royale. "This. I will never understand the appeal of the pre-Craig Bond films, they've just always seemed utterly ridiculous to me.
" @MarkWahlberg said:I dunno if I'd go that far. There's an obvious influence in terms of how the fight scenes/chase scenes are choreographed, but in terms of the style of the movie, and how Daniel Craig behaves, it's still very recognizable as a Bond movie. And I totally like James Bond movies! A lot of them just haven't aged well. I don't think there's anyone that doesn't like Goldeneye. I still like it even though I've never actually seen the whole thing in one sit-through! Just fragmented like. So there!
The Dalton films, on reflection, were actually very good.
They tried taking Bond to a darker place 20 years before the reboots did. Shame the punter's weren't ready for it...
As far as personal favourites go, I love all of the Connery films, and the Craig series has been great so far (Solace, though messy, is still good fun).
My favourite Bond movies are Casino Royale, Goldeneye, and From Russia With Love.
There's literally nothing about those three movies that I dislike. As for my top Bond actors, well, it's a really close race between Craig and Connery, with Brosnan coming up third. Everybody else is sort of...eh.
I'm not a huge fan of the old ones and when I was a kid Pierce Brosnan was Bond. So, my favorites are actually GoldenEye and Casino Royale.This. Except I hated Casino Royale.
- Thunderball
- From Russia With Love
- Goldfinger
- For Your Eyes Only
- Casino Royale --- this one (HA!)
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Goldeneye
Goldfinger
Casino Royale
The Living Daylights
For Your Eyes Only
That's my favorite from every Bond actor and On Her Majesty's Secret Service is not on there only because it's the only George Lazenby Bond to choose from, I think it's one of the best. The skiing part is awesome, the car chase as well not to mention it's the only film where he gets married.
I never liked the James Bond movies, but Casino Royale was actually pretty damn good.
Also, Daniel Craig made Bond a believeable character and that sure helped a lot.
