Blood Moon lunar eclipse happening (you missed it)

Check it out, you won't get to see many of these in your lifetime live...I'll be going outside in a few minutes to watch it, but if you're not on this side of the planet then you can watch NASA's stream! I can't remember seeing a total lunar eclipse live before - have you ever gotten to see one? Science!

11:49 PM. Did I miss it? Seems so dammit.

I don't mean to bring anime into this, but any Red Moon/Blood Moon immediately brings this to mind. I plan to go outside and take a look at it every hour. Already saw it once.

I can easily see it outside my living room window, so no need to go outside for me.

It'll be going on for a while. It hasn't reached its peak, when it'll be the blood moon.

It's still too early for that.

That NASA stream isn't loading for me for whatever reason. =\

The best part of this? Super clear skies for me today. Then shitty half overcast late afternoon and now full overcast. At least I have the stream.

Hey, its happening right now. I took a look at it and there is a definite red hue to it. Mostly on the outside area.

The fog is moving to Castro Valley right now. The moon is getting less and less visible. Just as it was starting to get good.

Ah well. The internet has pics.

Amazingly clear in Alberta and great view. Thank you Giantbomb community for bringing this to my attention!

My tripod is missing, but I was still able to take some pictures of the Blood Moon by hand. Cast a slightly reddish moonlight on everything.

I know some people didn't get to see it in their area; so, maybe this will help. :)

@truthtellah: that picture is still more clear than the view I had outside. Fog.

They said a few minutes ago we were at the halfway point so I checked it one last time. And couldn't see anything. Moved to another room and the sky decided to open up just slightly enough for me to see it. Two minutes later the overcast moved back in, but it was still pretty cool. Glad I got to see it, even if it was just a few minutes.

Took a crappy picture with me phone, I got it. It's orangish looking.

Isn't it just like Mars to hang out slightly to the right of the moon during its big moment and try to look redder?

Did it look that red with the naked eye? It looked mostly brown with a slight red tinge when i looked at it.

It's just a matter of where they're visible from for me. Think this is the first one I've caught in person.

As a reminder, the Moon just had a solar eclipse, as the Earth passed directly in front of the Sun's light.

I've seen two of these before, but I'm still disappointed I missed it.

Was way too cloudy and raining in my neck of the woods but was thankfully able to see most of it on http://live.slooh.com/

Here are two more pictures I took tonight. It's now 5AM, but well worth it. ha.

It's such a cool phenomena. The Earth's shadow covers up the moon, but the thinner atmosphere around the Earth bends redder light waves toward the Moon, causing it to glow with this beautiful red.

Fun Fact: In 1992, a major volcanic eruption caused the Earth's atmosphere to temporarily be thicker with dirt than usual, and so, when a lunar eclipse came, the Moon appeared almost black, instead of red. The atmosphere was too thick to bend away as much red light toward the Moon, preventing the usual effect.

It was fucking snowing here, so the sky wasn't exactly clear, and I was too busy cutting myself anyway.

Well of course you wouldn't. From your home on the Moon, it's nothing special.

But for us Earth dwellers, it looks cool.
