I had to do this once when I moved to college a few years back, not foreseeing the obvious complications of only taking a laptop when your music library is on your desktop.

There are programs in existence that transfer the data from your iPod to your computer, but the process is a tedious one.

If you use a mac, google Senuti (iTunes backwards. Clever, right?!) and it'll take all the songs from your ipod and put 'em on your computer.
