Canadians find cure for cancer but no one wants it.

So according to this news broadcast there is this drug some Canadian scientists found that appears to be the cure for cancer and is something that we have had for a very long time. The problem is that it's not patented, so none of the pharmaceutical companies want it because they can't patent it and overcharge for it. Apparently this drug is super cheap and easy to make.

We're talking about a god damn cure for cancer here! How is this not just automatically funded and put in every hospital the second it passes testing? What's been the point of all these charities raising money for all these years if they can't start putting that money towards getting this tested and mass produced now that there is a cure?

Cancer is cured every week. The media loves reporting on stuff like this.

Are you kidding me? They won't pick it up because they can't make money off it. Yep, that sounds about right.

I want it. I have it in my family and have already had a few things cut out or burned off.

But there's soooo much money to be had if we don't cure it!

This sounds like nonsense. There are numerous pharmaceutical companies that make money producing generic drugs for which the patents have expired, and if it was really that "super cheap" and easy one of them would most certainly have started production of it.

There are lots of cures for cancer that don't get the recognition they deserve. Several studies prove that even cannabis can cure cancer. Money runs the world, just accept it or wake up and join the revolution.

If it was truly a cure for cancer, drug companies would just slap something on to it so it could be patented, and make a shitload of money. Living people will always be lucrative than dead people.

A cure for all cancers suddenly popping up would be pretty sweet. Then I wouldn't have to get slapped in the face by pink ribbons all the damn time.

You can make money off unpatented medication. Not everything is a big pharma conspiracy. Sometimes people just want to be 100 percent certain something works before telling people it works and then turns out it doesn't on several people who throw together a class action suit.

I remember seeing a headline that said the "Holy Grail of cancer research" had been found.

It turned out that this "holy grail" drug extended the average lifespan of people with one type of cancer by 4 months.

In other words, don't fall for BS headlines.

Sadly, games journalism isn't the only kind of journalism that does clickbaits...

Okay, things to look for in spotting bullshit:

1. "Cure-alls" for cancer. There are hundreds of different cancers, all requiring their own research for their unique set of causes and symptoms.

2. Posts that show up with titles like "big-pharma" or "they don't want you to know about it!"

3. Posts that present you with some groundbreaking advancement that lack any form of evidence. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

4. "Great advancements" that are being shepherded by one person/team alone. If something works, it'll be proven effective by multiple scientists. Scientists get into their professions because they want to make a difference. There's no great "conspiracy." There are much easier ways to make a fortune than going to school for a decade and getting 100k in debt.

And don't go wishing we throw our money away on anything that sounds promising. There are much better places to send our donations that are proven effective.

Cures for the major killers, such as cancers of the lung, breast and liver, remain elusive primarily because of the unpredictable nature of cancer cells.

When a normal cell divides, the cell's DNA is copied more or less perfectly. But each division of a cancer cell brings about new changes in the DNA. So a drug might be able to kill some but not all of the cancer because each cell is a little different.

Even if this cure "works" it would only work most of the time for a small sample size of tested cancer cells, and not necessarily prove effective in treating the full spectrum of cancer cells in the real world.

I've seen how this ends. We mass produce a "cure" for cancer and then BAM! Zombie outbreak.

Because this is nonsense! Cancer is such a hydra anyway the idea of a "miracle cure" for all cancer is a load of monumental bullshit. Pro Tip: If you ever hear the media talk about the "cure for cancer", something got lost in translation from the actual science, intentionally or not.

Do people really open that link and fail to notice that the video was first posted in December 2012? Are people that stupid?

Like, it's not even remotely new. It just somehow went viral in the past week or so. If it was actually a big deal, it would've gone somewhere in the past TEN months.

Before you even read anything else, that alone should tell you that the findings were probably being exaggerated.

I'm offended by this absurdity. People peddling miracle cancer cures like this are the worst. What type of cancer is the cure for? Why aren't there more scientists out asking for research into it?

If there's something here, there will be further research, but to claim that there is a proven cure for just generic "cancer" is ridiculous nonsense taking advantage of people's desperation for a cure.
