Even in his bitter-90's-political days, still had it.

I'm not really sure what you could classify George Carlin under, definately not a comedian. Revolutionary speaker maybe?

George Carlin is one of the original Kings of Comedy...

Although his later material had more of a serious meaning behind his acts. But George is very much a comedian and one of the greatest at that. He just puts politics and human stupidity behind the blunt of the jokes. And not calling him a comedian is like not calling Stephen Colbert a comedian...

@Gizmo:

I'd call him a comedian; It wasn't until the 90's that he started this type of material. His 60's through late 80's material was pure observational comedy.

Carlin was definitely a comedian. I'm so glad that the last stand up show he did was so hilarious- in my opinion his best. Went out with a bang.

I saw him when he came here a few years ago.  He was still awesome.  It's sad to see him go.  :(

God. I'm sick of Carlin. Let him RIP already.  He seemed to repeat his jokes a lot & I got tired of hearing that old man croaky voice in the latter days.

Later in his career the problem for me was that it sounded like he was reading written material, which is a turn off for me when it comes to stand up comedy.  Regardless he remained funny and earlier was one of the best to ever take the stage.

We could use someone like him in the absolutely incompetent government currently in power in Ireland!
