I love me some Daft Punk . What do you guys think ?
I still love me some Daft Punk but I HATE it when music critics approach all other electronic music with "It's not as good as Daft Punk!"Daft Punk is great, but Daft Punk is LAZY, they have slowed down a lot in terms of releases, don't do a lot of live shows and their last album was their worst album. Therefore, I will happily turn to a MSTRKRFT or a Justice and I don't feel bad about it. Those dudes keep cool stuff coming and even if it is derivative, its a whole lot more than Daft Punk has been giving us lately.
I agree with RetroIce4. I remember thinking that the "Around the World" song was pretty fun when I first heard it. Once I finally heard the full album, I found that it all sounded the exact same. The exact same. Everything I've heard since then has been stellar. I should try listening to a full album's worth at some point as I have not done so yet.
So yeah, I like them but I wouldn't say I love them. They have cool helmets.
So here's my problem with Daft Punk that made me stop liking them so much after obsessively listening to them; the initial hooks for half of their songs are amazing, I could listen to the first bit of Robot Rock over and over again. Unfortunately that's exactly what Robot Rock is, and most of their songs at that. The same could be said about a lot of electronic music but it gets especially grating when the songs last at least 5 minutes.
Otherwise yeah, they're okay.
" @Cirdain said:I like Aerodynamic (actually most of Discovery) more than their live thing, but they're definitely better live than, say, Justice. Is ok . But i think there best work is the mash ups they did on alive 2007 "
" aerodynamic "
... I don't know where I was going with this. The point is that both are good but I disagree with your ordering.
I enjoy many of their songs, but there are also many that I find to be annoyingly repetitive like "Around the World". I suppose ALL of their music is pretty damn repetitive, but some of the beats and tunes can stand being looped over and over, while others just get jarring after awhile.
I really enjoyed Interstella 5555 -- the anime they did with Leiji Matsumoto. That was a great video.
