Got into the new album because of the Needle Drop review (Anthony Fantano's been pimping them since last year).

Official Website Lyrics (you'll thank me)

This is insane! Brought new life to hip-hop. Last time I was into hip-hop/rap was around 2007 with Dizzee Rascal.

I'd love to know what Jeff Gerstmann's opinion is on Death Grips.

I think Guillotine is decent, but I can't even understand what he's saying in most of his songs. There's also too much going on in his instrumentals for me.

AOTY!

That needledrop review was great. He really does fucking love that album. I could never really get into Exmillitary myself, but I really like Hacker, so I may pick this up at some point.

Also, AM IN YO AREAAAA. AM IN, YOUR AREA.

My ears! They bleed!

.

But seriously, the first track is O__o and the second is :D and the third is >:/

.

Im kind of mixed here.

.

EDIT: also the lead singer looks like my homeless friend Liam.

It is soooo fucking good, the variety of beats on the album is insane. As soon as they make that vinyl version available I am snatching that up right away.

This has been such a great year for music man, between BADBADNOTGOOD and Big K.R.I.T.'s new mixtapes and that new A$AP Rocky single off his album that's coming out soon and the Jack White debut etc. Exciting shit.

Oh wow, the lyrics are excellent. Absolutely crucial to pay attention to if you want to understand his character throughout the album.

"The Money Store" LYRICS

Get Got

lycanthropic manic cycles

fire water burnin bibles

wake up ragin call a taxi

take me to the nearest city

cell light up yeah get at me make it quick though blood im busy (get busy)

Lost Boys

i'll handle this

on some scandalous

inland empire los angeles

anti ego propaganda shit

David Lynch reference?! Very fitting to his surreal, schizo homeless ramblings. Amazing nuggets in each song about his character.

I Seen Footage

juke step wit so much boy rude looseness seem like

no bones in him skin

(noided) my jaw hit da floor like this real for i gotta see that one mo gin

We might be disgusted by those disturbing videos hidden around the Internet, but that morbid curiosity takes over us. I Seen Footage is like if the dude from Afterschool (watch that movie!) made a rap song. Reminds me of the disturbing video threads like the real-life killings and executions. Seeing all the shock footage on the internet, made him lose his mind.

I definitely plan on purchasing a copy of the album on my next visit my local record store. I enjoyed Exmilitary and liked what I heard from their new album.

I also learned about Death Grips from Anthony Fantano.

Yeah I downloaded the first album about a month ago and just downloaded this one, and I think they're both pretty interesting...I discovered them on exfm!

Fantano is how I heard about Death Grips too!

IM IN YOUR AREA I KNOW THE FIRST THREE NUMBERS IM IN

Hacker is a great closer, sounds like LCD Soundsystem and is pure fun. Nods to cyberpunk, "info warrior jack the hacker"? Fucking with the new geek generation, catching a jpeg to the head, making your water break in the Apple Store.

Then there's just surreal shit like "burmese babies under each arm screamin beautiful songs". Is "i got this pregnant snake stay surrounded by long hairs" a dick reference? o_O

#16 Posted by AssInAss (2397 posts) -

Can any of you say the chorus to Get Got fast enough? It's a fucking tongue twister! Try it, while the song's playing.

get get get get

got got got got

blood rush to my

head lit hot lock

poppin off the

fuckin block knot

clockin wrist slit

watch bent through bot

this will most likely be my aoty this year. but it really depends on how the new black moth super rainbow album turns out. judging by the first single off that it could really go either way.

Tied as my favorite album of the year. I heard about them last year from Fantano but did not like them. The Money Store drew me in and would not let go. I even like Exmilitary now.

#20 Posted by PeasantAbuse (5120 posts) -

Yo, Death Grips themselves leaked their new album because their label wanted to release it next year instead of this year or something. Epic must be so pissed haha.

#21 Posted by KEITH1437 (276 posts) -

@PeasantAbuse: And it's really great too.

#22 Edited by Guided_By_Tigers (8060 posts) -

@PeasantAbuse: Yeah I read about that this morning, the cover art is quite...interesting as well. I've listened to the first half of it, so far so good.

#23 Posted by Sploder (917 posts) -

This is awesome, I've Seen Footage is my new jam. Also the cover art is amazing.

#24 Edited by Milkman (16226 posts) -

Man, that cover art is..uhh...something.

#25 Posted by Rudeboy217 (1760 posts) -

Black Dice is so good. I also like how some of the tracks just abruptly end.

#26 Posted by TheVeteran13 (1197 posts) -

I don't get it. Not criticizing or passing judgement here but this is not for me.

#27 Posted by Apparatus_Unearth (3031 posts) -

Interested to see the retail release for that cover art.

Columbia Records definitely won't let them use the current cover art on the retail release.

I bet they would, but with a slipcover and a sticker on the front or something.
