I can wire up a home theater and put together an IKEAbookshelf like nobody's business, but I'm not quite what you would classify as “handy.” At least, not handy enough to build one of these totally incredible Atari 2600 joystick lamps as seen on Instructables. I'm going through these step-by-step how-to images of this thing, and there's not a single step that I think I could pull off myself. I barely understand what's going on. Once I got to step eight where it says “I found in the owner's manual that you should place shims into the kerf” I started to suspect that the dude was just making up words to mess with me. Like with the Ben Heck Xbox 360 laptops, I respect the DIY ethic and envy the practical knowhow that made this possible, but mostly I just want to know how much I'd have to pay someone to build it for me.

Because nothing classes up a space-age bachelor pad like a table lamp made to look like a giant video-game controller, amirite?

Another neat thing about that lamp is that in the same way a Sonic Mosquito Repellent keeps your porch free of insects that thing actually keeps good looking women out of your apartment like a crazy magic talisman, and if you pair it with a DIY NES pad coffee table then anything, even dogs and cats, with a vagina is unable to penetrate the invisible bubble that forms around your living space. So it keeps your room bright and your dick dry.
